Guy's from Mt. Union. Another great football pedigree. I like him now that I've read about him. If you look at him and Mangino's similar O styles, he's going to be coming in with both feet running... no coaching lag and pass pro development.

BIOGRAPHY: Ed Warinner, who has 19 years of college football coaching experience, was named offensive line coach at the University of Kansas, Februrary 14, 2003.

Warinner (pronounced Warner) comes to KU after serving the last three years as offensive line coach at the Air Force Academy. Prior to his stint at Air Force, the Strasburg, Ohio native spent 13 seasons at Army coaching the offensive line and serving as both recruiting coordinator (1988-91) and offensive coordinator (1998-99). In addition, Warinner has also coached at Michigan State (1985-86) and Akron (1984).

I like his experience at the Service Academies, teams that are known for their discipline. Part of that is the type of kids that choose Army or Air Force, and part of it is that they are in an environment of constant discipline. But the guy has got to be aware of the advantages of having disciplined players on the line, and one would presume that he will be preaching and teaching that. Plus.....he's an Ohio guy. Always nice to see coaches from Ohio succeed.

The line is all discipline and fundamentals..... the spread... wishbone... option... west coast... pro style... none are successful unless the same fundamentals are sound on the O-line.

The day the genius Davie fired Moore... it's been trouble since.

I agree, completely. But some teams are more disciplined than others. And a few more teams are even uber-disciplined; like Army, Navy, and Air Force. I just like the fact that he has been involved with two of the most disciplined programs, year in and year out, in the country. My hope is that, hopefully, he can bring that same attitude about discipline to ND's O Line.

Player Bio: Kerry Cooks - UWBadgers.com - The Official Web Site of the Wisconsin Badgers

Kerry Cooks is now in his fourth year as defensive backs coach at Wisconsin. The Badger secondary continues to benefit from Cooks' experience both as an All-Big Ten student-athlete and a National Football League player, as well as his increasingly seasoned coaching resume.
Cooks' star pupil last season was cornerback Allen Langford, a first-team All-Big Ten choice and UW's team MVP. Langford was a steadying influence, starting all 13 games. Six other players recorded starts at the other three defensive back positions. Among those was sophomore Jay Valai who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors and gained a reputation as one of the conference's hardest hitters in his first year as a starter. Another first-year starter, cornerback Niles Brinkley, led the Badgers and tied for fifth in the Big Ten in interceptions.
Though the Badger secondary encountered injuries and dealt with inexperience in 2007, Cooks kept the unit on track. Sophomore free safety Shane Carter, a consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten pick, led the conference and tied for sixth nationally with seven interceptions in his first season as a starter. Junior Jack Ikegwuonu, a first-team All-Big Ten selection, led the team and tied for third in the Big Ten with 16 passes defended. Langford went down with a season-ending knee injury at Ohio State and was replaced by true freshman Aaron Henry. Henry then injured his knee during bowl preparations, leaving UW without two of its top corners for the Outback Bowl game against Tennessee.
In Cooks' first season at Wisconsin (2006), the Badgers led the nation in pass efficiency defense (84.19 rating) and finished second to Virginia Tech in passing yards allowed per game (138.3) and scoring defense (12.1 ppg). UW also was No. 5 nationally in total defense, allowing just 253.1 yards per contest. The Badgers led the Big Ten in all of those defensive categories. Each of Cooks' four starting defensive backs received postseason recognition from the Big Ten. Ikegwuonu was a first-team all-conference pick, while free safety Roderick Rogers earned second-team All-Big Ten acclaim. Langford and strong safety Joe Stellmacher both were named honorable mention All-Big Ten.
Cooks came to Wisconsin after one year coaching the secondary at Minnesota. The Golden Gophers qualified for the Music City Bowl in 2005, while Cooks' unit allowed opponents to complete just 56.8 percent of their passes (fourth-best in the Big Ten). That figure dropped to 55.3 percent in conference games, tied for second in the league with Penn State.
Prior to his year at Minnesota, Cooks coached defensive backs and assisted on special teams for one season (2004) at Western Illinois. Under Cooks' direction, the Leathernecks limited opponents to a Gateway Conference-best 157.2 passing yards per game, held opponents to the lowest completion percentage (45.4) in the conference and finished second in the league with 17 interceptions.
Cooks began coaching at his high school alma mater, Nimitz High (Texas), in 2003 before joining the staff at Kansas State as a graduate assistant for the 2003 campaign. While at Kansas State, Cooks worked mostly with defensive game plan preparation and assisted with the Wildcats' secondary. Kansas State registered an 11-4 record in 2003 and won a Big 12 title with a defense that was sixth nationally in total defense, eighth in scoring defense, 12th in pass efficiency defense and 17th in rushing defense. The Wildcats earned a trip to the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl after limiting each of their last six opponents to 14 points or less, including Oklahoma, the nation's highest-scoring team.
Cooks was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter as a strong safety at Iowa from 1994-97. He was a team captain as a senior and earned All-Big Ten honors and a spot in the East-West Shrine Game. A fifth-round draft choice of the Minnesota Vikings in 1998, Cooks also played for Green Bay, Atlanta and Jacksonville before retiring from the NFL in 2001. He also played for the Chicago Enforcers of the XFL in 2001. Cooks has played or coached in seven bowl games. He is a 2000 graduate of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in sociology.

You know... I wouldn't be surprised if Alford was named the RC. I doubt Elston would have all three responsibilities.

BGIF,

Has Genyk been finalized to ND? Or, are there other potentials for the OC spot?

I think Genyk is the guy but as of now I believe only Alford has been acknowleged as on staff. Others may have been offered contracts, accepted them, or signed them but until there's an ND Press Conference it's all speculation.

Genyk as OC might be the reason Browning's not the OLine Coach. Browning has done both and may have wanted both. Warinner OLines play seems more compatible with Genyk offense than Browning's.

BTW, Browning is now supposed
to be headed to Akron to coach Inanell's OLine.

Anybody slightly worried about having Diaco as DC given this performance against Florida?

Elston has handled all three for Kelly in the past but I think it's overload particularly recruiting on a national basis. It's not just jumping in the car and driving an hour now.

I think it makse more sense to break out Special Teams from Elston. He's done well but there are many of the coaches on that projected staff that have Special Teams experience. Elston could keep the kickers while others handle the Return and Coverage play. I expect the kicking game to be a strength at ND in '10.

I don't recall Alford having a reputation as an ace recruiter or serving in a recruiting coordinator capacity in his career. I didn't see anything to that effect in his bio. Alford has covered a number of states including California, Florida, Georgia, Ohio and Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Michigan.

What's Tebow 16/17? No doubt the Gators have he better talent on both sides of the ball and the Bearcats are playing without a head coach and a lame duck coaching staff. Add the Meyer "Last Game" emotion and many people thought this game could be a blowout.

I think there's apprehension about Diaco regardless of the UF game. I wasn't impressed with his defense all season particularly the PIT game. But then again, he's young, he defense was younger. Didn't he have to replace something like 10 starters on his defense? If so they did pretty good in '09. Diaco's in his first year at UC and his first year as a OC. At UVA the previous 3 years he was a LB/ST Coach. At CMU he was Co-DC for 2 seasons.

I think many people are hoping Martin becomes the DC rather than Diaco. We'll know in a couple of days.

5 Possessions - 4 TDs 1 FG

It doesn't look impressive at all. I'm pulling for Martin or maybe a bigger name after the bowls are finished.

I'm a big fan of the defensive recruits we've gotten so far except the CB situation, I'm hoping we get someone to use some of these stud defensive linemen and linebackers

I have my hand up. Sure, there's a talent gap here, but Diaco is getting his butt handed to him. Plus, Pitt pretty much had their way with Cinci too - and the talent was more evenly matched there. I'd rather have Martin - but I think he's a 4-3 guy, no? I think I'd really rather have somebody more established. Bumpas, please.

Rightfully so. All I wanted for Christmas was a mean defensive coordinator (Pelini/Bompas).

This FL game is men against boys. Actually, it's MOTIVATED men against boys. A ton of guys on this FL team is playing their last game for FL, and they are playing for their unhealthy coach. Hell, they had such a great practice that they convinced Liar to go against everything he told his family (and the nation) the night before about quitting. These guys were fired up, and oh, they were playing a program in turmoil, without their head coach. This result was soooooo predictable.

Anybody who thinks that this game is an indicator of ND's future needs to put the pipe down and chill the eff out. I went on a couple of rivals' boards real quick, and NOBODY was saying that this indicates that Kelly will do the same thing at ND. You could say that this just shows how incredible it was that he even took his team to 12-0, considering how obviously poor in talent they are. This loss doesn't worry me in the least. Losing out on a kid like Anthony Barr would worry me a lot more than this loss...

Regardless of how motivated they are, I'd expect some halftime adjustments to be a part of this new regime. I think Florida has scored on every possession they've had, and I see very little pressure/penetration. I'm not saying this has any reflection on Kelly or his program building abilities. I'm just not impressed with what I'm seeing tonight

I never thought I'd see a Brian Kelly-coached team play so poorly. This is truly a shocker. Wait, Brian Kelly isn't on the sidelines? He's NOT the Cincy coach? Oh........

Is there actually any chance in the freaking world we'd get a Bo Pellini?

My short list, right after the Kelly getting the job, was.
1. Charlie Strong.
2. Ibid.
3. Ibid.
4. See Above.
5. Note Previous.
6. Gandalf the Grey.
7. An actual brick wall, 50ft high spanning sideline to sideline on the 42 yard line.
8. Charlie Strong.
9. Again, see above.
10. Tony Dungy.
11. Gruden's sweet bangs.

Another name to watch for, in the upcoming years, (not for Kelly) is Coach Chris Creighton. GA under the sweater vest (Jim Tressel), he's actually mentioned in Tressel's book. Was a Quarterback at Kenyon from 1988-1991, was a winner whever he coached. Started in the NAIA (Ottawa U in Kansas), DIII (Wabash College... my old HC... man was freaking brilliant) And D1-AA (Drake). He's gonna get a D1 job... and soon.

Like how the staff is coming together. The diaco thing does scare me, and Browning not being hired slightly shocked me, but i like warinner(SP?) after BGIF put up his resume.

Kelly is putting in a staff that suits him and his style, nothing less. Very excited to see how the whole staff looks when all is said and done.

Like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

The NCAA Stats had UC in the Top 10 for Sacks and TFLs before that game. They were playing a different level of talent than what they're accustomed to AND as several people have noted the ran into a motivated team.

Florida was motivated? A lot of those guys sleepwalked throughout the entire game and still crushed Cincy. Florida had 12 penalties, mostly for offsides or false starts.

Tony Pike had one of the most ridiculous games I have ever seen for a QB. He went 27/45 for 3 TD's and 170 yards passing

Gilyard dropped 4 passes during the game.
