Dual-threat QB Colter decommits from Stanford
Greg Biggins ESPN 12/31

... As for what happened with Stanford, Colter said it was simply a case of not waiting to around any more to find out if he was cleared through admissions.
"I was getting a little frustrated," Colter said. "It was taking so long to find out if I was accepted in to the school or not and I knew the longer I waited, my options were going to decrease pretty quickly.
"So I had to make a decision to move on and look at these other schools. I didn't want to wait until close to signing day and then find out that I wasn't cleared. It's all for the best and I'm happy with my choices I have in front of me."

The tougher academic schools take longer to evaluate some prospects particularly when course descriptions don't jive with required coursework. StateU doesn't worry about those details.

translation.........he wasn't getting in......

Not necessarily, experience shows that Stanford and ND have the tougher Admissions Departments to get cleared by. A prospect may take a pre-Algebra class that Auburn gives advance placement to but Stanford might not accept at all - depending upon the school. Coursework varies greatly from HS to HS. If it's a school that a college doesn't experience with it may ask for a more detailed course description and then re-evaluate. Throw in it's holiday time and that drags out the process further.

Colter stated he didn't want to wait and get shut out of opportunities elsewhere should Stanford say no.

Stanford may well end up saying no to him or others as Harbaugh handed scholarships out like water this year. He obviously weren't getting all of the pre-approved by Stanford Admissions. Some recruits may need second semester Sr year of HS to meet Admissions requirements. Some kids may balk.

This just says again - to me anyway - we dodged a bullet with Harbaugh... as with Meyer...
