that's what i feel too. our football under cw was passionless. too professional-like.

this is college football, it's all about passion and pageantry.

for a coach in his first year with someone else's recruits....it could happen.

Does the way he says "day" bother anyone else? I've never heard anyone say that word like that. He grew up in Boston, but has spent most of his adult life in the midwest. No idea where the accent he has came from...

lol. Seems he has offered up himself for either winning or ridicule.

Gotta luv it. I'm fired up after watching the video.

Go Irish!!!

I remember at the beginning of the year, after the Weis BBQ, Brian Smith saying that he never felt this close to all his teammates, and he proclaimed "I am my brothers keeper" he also said that he TRULY believed this was the closest group of players than any other team he ever played on. The emotion was there.

I don't mean to ridicule. Just curious about his accent. And I only noticed, because he said the word 'day' 75 times in the first 90 seconds. It's more like "dai". It's almost how someone in the south would say it. Bizarre. Okay, I'll stop now.

I dig it, I am a Charlie fan, but if there is one thing he didn't have that my favorite all time guy did (Coach Holtz), and Coach Kelly appears to also, is that ability to come in and give a talk and in 5 minutes I would punch my grandma if he asked me too. I love the emotion, can't wait for next season.

I don't doubt that the Weis teams had emotion and passion. I'm sure they did. But this video, to me, shows someone who knows how to lead people. It shows somebody who knows how to bring out the best in others and how to make it work for real world results. Just that thought, "to win you have to stop losing" is simple but brilliant.

In tennis there really is not much difference in skill between the number one player in the world and the number 100 ranked player in the world. The real difference is mental. It's how the number one guy prepares himself to win. It's how he thinks about the game as it's unfolding. This is what the coach is talking about, in my opinion. That's the stuff the separates the wheat from the chaff. We've all seen it in action. The guy who is in the finals for the first time, is kicking butt for a set and then something happens. The champ, who is losing, hits a great shot or just hangs in and the challenger starts to doubt. Mentally it starts to unfold for him and he's history.

I been reading that Weis was too much of a players coach. Had a buddy relationship with most of them as opposed to a Leadr or Mentor type relationship. I guess its kind of like being a freind to your kid as opposed to a father.

My sense is that's just coming from people grasping at straws. Weis looked like he was more than willing to get in player's faces. Maybe that changed as his coaching career went on, but I feel that this team this year failed because their D-line and secondary weren't talented enough and the offense had some key injuries. People who predicted the Irish would be better or who write about sports are trying to come up with more complicated reasons, and saying that Weis was too much of a buddy is something that's easy to say but impossible to prove.

Kelly's accent

Kelly's accent

I kind of noticed it to, it had me laughing. After growing up outside of Boston and getting stationed in North Carolina I went through the accent-morph, half yankee, half redneck, not a pretty thing. My wifes transition was even funnier. He may have picked up some accents along the way.

The talent at key positions in the Defense was lacking for sure, and though sometimes I felt like the D had tanked I never once thought that as a team they had given up. It's is impossible to prove what the reasons were without being in the locker room and It seems like the players were still behind Charlie. I appreciate what he did for the program, and I always felt that despite shortcomings he was putting his heart in to it all the time.

Our secondary is a lil slow
Our D-line is young
Our Linebackers can's tackle

other than that we are fine

A friend of mine is from the east coast (Mass) area and he says "Day" EXACTLY like Brian Kelly.

I grew up and live in MA and it didn't sound funny to me at all. Everybody here says it the same way.

Absolutely love the video! The thing that I love the most is that he seems to "get it", and by that I mean how life works. Whether you are a garbage man or the president or a college football player, the type of mindset he is trying to instill is what will make anyone great. I love that someone with that mindset is leading our Irish!

not from cw it wasn't. this is just my opinion too. being close is fine and having passion for each other is great, but when it's not shown in your play....that's when it's passionless to me.

i did not see that drive all season long. sure when things were going great, you'd see the guys jumping around and patting each other on the butt/pads whatever. but when times got tough....what happened to it? it wasn't there.

where was it when our defense was getting gashed by navy? where was it when stanford's toby gerhart was running all over us?? did bryan smith step it up to make a big play during those tough times? nope, he disappeared. just like the rest of the defense. and toward the end of the season, our offense pretty much disappeared when it counted.

against inferior teams we showed it, but when it got tough on the field....we were passionless. and cw's demeanor as the head coach was too low key at times. again, just my opinion.
