If we hire Kelly, it will be a long offseason for me, but that will be because of the excitement of wondering what a college coach who has won everywhere he has went could bring to this program. It will be a long season for guys like Rudy and I think you as well (I might be mistaken) are already predicting doom and gloom. Not me. I love what Kelly has done and I'm excited about what he could do.

Your comparison of Clausen, Tate and Weis vs. those guys gone with Kelly as coach is a poor one and you know it. You even admitted it in your last line. Clausen was gone bro, whether Weis was here or not. He leaned on Weis for advice and Weis told him to leave. If Weis is the guy we all think he is, he would have told him to leave even if he were still here. Same for Tate.

So yes, I'll take Kelly over Weis for next year's team, absolutely. (And yes, I'm typing this with a straight face.) Both would have new QB's, no Tate, and new offensive linemen. Weis proved that he could recruit but that he couldn't take his 4 and 5 star guys and beat teams consistently. Kelly has proven that he can take 2 and 3 star guys and beat teams with better or greater talent...consistently.

Can you imagine how long the offseason would have been had we kept Weis??? It would have been hell. We would have accepted mediocrity (and I'm a Weis supporter), and the nation and the recruits would have seen it. It was time to move on. I'm excited and hopeful that we get Kelly. Dude can coach, and now he'll have 4 and 5 star recruits (thank you CW) to work with. Can't wait...

Well said. Props. Even though you gave me an infraction. LOL

Really depends on the coach.

Crist is inexperienced but he has all the tools and 2 years under Weis

Floyd and Rudolph are still there and we have depth at WR so who wants to step up?

The O-line will need tackles but it should be an upgrade over Young and Duncan

The defense has talent but we need some one to put confidence in them and teachthem technique.

Dont forget what the effect of a new voice can have. Ty and Weis both had big years in their first season.

It will all depend on the hire. We have the talent.

It can only go up from here. Crist has a big time arm. Still have plenty of talent left on the offense side of the ball. Crist wont have to be relied on as much bc hopefully Allen can stay healthy with Hughes as a solid change up. They'll have a slu of really good running back to go to. The recieving core should be deep as well with Rudolph, Floyd and Shaq emerging on to the scene. Its all going to be up to the development of the defense!

I was listening to ISD power hour tonight and they made a very good point about our assistants and pay scale.

If Kelly does choose to come to ND I believe we better hire the best assistants out there, with money not being option.

I also heard his strength and conditioning coach was really good!

ok guys I dont think we are destined for total failure but I think it will all depend on the coahc we have, and I do think with a new coach and sytem there might be some growing pains that go along with that. Also do you think patriot fans would bne super optimistic if Tom Brady and Randy Moss weren't going to be on the team next year or what about us Colt fans if Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne wouldnt be on the team. Im not trying to overrate tate and jimmy and Im not trying to say we wont be good but when you lose players like that even if there will be a new system it does kinda bring up a question mark especially when our new QB is hurt. Crist might be great after all Quinn was very mediocre until Weis came in and if Crist can recover well and keep mobility and we get kelly and the stars are aligned and everythuing we cna be great. I just think this first year might be a rebuilding year

its gonna be tough, we still have a chance to have a pretty special team even without tate an clausen but, i just gotta see it to believe it.

the schedule next year is really manageable, but top heavy with the first 6 games looking like the toughest outside of usc.

we get mich, pitt, pur, and stanford at home, but bc, msu away, those will be tough tough games for a new starter at QB.

after pitt there is navy, utah and sc, utah at home.

if kelly went 12-0 this year with his roster, i would have to think he can produce similar results with our roster. but the only difference is experience. pike and collaros had 2 seasons under kelly prior to this year. Crist can be 10 times the qb either of those 2 are but it depends on how quickly he picks up the play book and how that injury affects him.

I think that our offense is going to take a while to find it's rhythm. You can't lose the guys we did and expect to not miss a beat.

However, our defense is loaded with talent now, and if someone can actually coach these guys up, why couldn't we see a big boost in production?

I mean really, look at the level of talent and where they're at. Our d line is finally starting to improve in terms of quality and depth. We should expect to see improvement from this group as a whole next year.
Safety will be an area of concern, but we still have plenty of DB's that will hopefuly play better than this year, it wouldn't be that hard.

Overall, it's possible that our defense is vastly, or even marginaly improved. That combined with an offense that should still be able to score some points, and we're going to be competitive. More so than alot here are expecting.

That combined with a new coach who doesn't continually play to the level of his competition makes me think we could be ready for a very exciting year!

Anything's better than another year of Charlie IMO.
