ND Chooses Not To Go To Bowl Game

You should read back to my post before the one that you quoted...If it was the Gator, Cotton, or Holiday Bowl it would be a different story and different discussion...I agree with ND playing in those "types" of bowls, but lowering themselves to play in the GMAC?? It's not just about prestige with the prgram and the bowl...but it's also about "earning" the right to play in a prestigious bowl...ND has set that standard for themselves and given us that expectation as fans...and I will hold them to it because I believe in it...If you want to call yourself one of the "elite" college football programs, then you don't accept invites to bottom-of-the-barrel bowls...You only go to the best bowls because that's where you belong....as NDinLA said, my thinking can be taken as just a tad arrogant...but if you want to be a champion, then it's time we start thinking, acting, and playing like champions.

I can agree with that. Just 3 years ago we were in a BCS bowl. I just think that a chance to get the bad taste of a disappointing season out of your mouth and go out a winner would be better than. . . . well, quitting. Still think that a bowl winning streak would help the program, no matter what the bowl.

If it was the choice of the team, i can understand it.

Charlie weis was head of a family, and he was just taken away from the family. Even if guys (Tate, Jimmy, McCarthy, and Olsen) said to the media they wanted to play in a bowl game, what did you expect them to say? That they didnt really want to play?

"No, I dont want to play. Charlie is gone, it doesnt feel right." You know how much heat those specific players would take for saying that, from the media and fans alike?

I respect the decision, even though i would have liked to see them one more time. I can understand it under the circumstances.

Its probably a good thing they declined.......they just might lose to a MAC Team with the way they have been playing....

I don't believe that. I think if anything, Charlie would tell them not to sit around and go out and represent their University. Charlie said he was not going to step down from his position, but you think he would have supported the team 'lying down' and calling it a season?

I'm not so sure the team had as much influence in the decision as we may believe, but if we aren't going only because we didn't want Jimmy or Golden to get hurt before the draft, that's pucky.

This also seems to cement the fact that those two are gone.

Why play in a pizza bowl or the GMAC bowl? Why should Clausen and Tate risk injury if they're leaving for the NFL and that goes double for returning players. They're saving face and looking forward. No heart! Excuse me but did this team give up playing against USC or any other team when they were behind? You're comment is completely off base and you should be kick in the teeth because of your own selfishness. Wah! I don't get to brag to my coworkers or friends about my team winning some toilet bowl game..

Fact is this isn't the first time ND turn down a bowl game and probably won't be the last. Get over it!!

Are you kidding me??? I here a lot of people talking about Jimmy & Tate. What about those seniors that won't be going to the NFL, what about the players that haven't got to attend a bowl game. Wow typeing tough guy, look out!!! I believe your just scared of a loss. I'd say choosing to opt out of a bowl game when millions would die for it is pretty dam selfish.

Fact is your an idiot your comments were completely off base!!!!

I think it is BS. These kids came for an education and to play FOOTBALL. you think these seniors aren't going to regret not playing one more time to get rid of that bitter taste in their mouth?

As for lowering themselves to play in the GMAC bowl. Notre Dame is the one that went 6-6 right? Acting like a champion doesn't mean you stay on the mat when you're down. It means competing. Always competing.

good choice.......they prob didn't want to put the coaching staff in a bad situtation.....

Boo F'n Who!!!! Poor PAID coaches, wouldn't want to hurt there feelings. Is this football or what??????????????????????????? I wish when I had a bad year at my job I could just take a couple weeks off vacation for the holidays instead of working through them to pay the bills.

Exactly!!! How many of you on here are football players? How many of you missed games and look back at that as time of missed opportunities to play competitive football? I would never want to end on a (4) game losing streak if I had a chance.

Kyle McCarthy said something a few days ago like "we're not going to go if 10 guys want to and 70 dont." I wish they were playing, but doesn't surprise me that they're not and it wouldn't even surprise me if they said they wouldn't play without Weis.

who has had surgery from which it is not uncommon to take 2 years to be 100% recovered. he will mis alot of valuable practice, so the other guys may need to contribute next year.

Wow, sucks that I won't get to watch JC and Tate in one last game. Oh well, lets just get our coaching staff in place and start building the foundation for success. That includes saving our recruiting class and hopefully getting a couple more kids to sign.

It's going to be hard to think that JC and GT will also be known for being on an ND team that was part of their worst 3 year period in ND history. they need to come back to create the proper legacy. I can't see them coming back for Urban ut I think their numbers would be off the charts for Stoops or Kelly. JC is listed as the #1 QB in the draft and GT is the #2 WR.
