Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate is expected to meet with former Irish coach Charlie Wes on Friday regarding whether he will return for his senior year or enter the NFL Draft. Tate says two big factors will be whether or not quarterback Jimmy Clausen returns and who the next Irish coach will be.

Something tells me Tate has pretty much already made his decision. Especially after his performance against Stanford last weekend.

Rotoworld

He shouldn't publicly acknowledge meeting with Charlie, if he leaves for the Draft, there are still some who will say Charlie told him to do it.

We can't replace Golden Tate, and Charlie wants him in the NFL when hes an Offensive Coordinator for my Kansas City Chiefs. Cassel-Bowe-Tate under Charlie should be impressive.

Will you guys please stop drafting Wide Receivers.

Enough is enough.

Except one was a bust, and another was traded. It's never a bad idea to give a young QB more weapons, but line help makes more sense.

Hines Ward is getting old...Steelers baby. We don't need CW though...we're good. He can go to clevland and help BQ.

ahhh pipe dream...steelers will never see him...but a guy can hope...

It makes sense for him to meet with Weis. After all he was a very good offensive coordinator and knows what it takes to make it in the NFL. I'm sure he will give him an honest assessment of what he believes Golden should do regarding leaving early or not.

It all depends on if Tate will be a first rounder. He is a guaranteed 1st rounder if he stays one more year and is 3/4s as productive.

Tate would be lucky to sniff the first round in 2011.

Julio Jones
AJ Green
DeAndre Brown

Are without any question better NFL prospects at WR.

2010 is a perfect opportunity, he is the best WR available in 2010.

Another year does him nothing for his draft status. He's already being recognized as one of the best WR if not the best in all of college however these scouts and GM's get stupid at draft time and get too caught up in height, 40 Yard dash time as well as other measurables that led them taking someone who's more likely to bust as they are just super freak athletes but not a football player.

The point is he's gone and he should go if we aren't being selfish because his stock is more or less set in stone and after '10 draft there is going to be a rookie cap and that's a whole lot of money that will be lost by waiting another season.

Don't forget to add Micheal Floyd to that list. Frankly Tates stock won't rise much more than it has. I fully expect him to go, and not because Weis talked him into it.

As for the Lions look for them to be drafting heavy into the Dline and Olines. Unless there is a 150% can't miss pick.

I can definitely see him going, and I would if I were in his position.
He is a great football player and will be missed on Saturdays if he chooses to leave. It will be fun watching him return kicks in his first year in the NFL.

Michael Floyd definetly.

The 2011 WR class is going to be awesome.

Better than 96.

Quick question...Should Tate opt for the NFL, will that mean that he can't play baseball this coming season?

I don't know if he'd be ineligible (the NCAA didn't seem to have a problem with it the other way around when Jeff Samardzija was playing minor league baseball for the Cubbies but still playing on Saturdays for the Irish), but I can't imagine the team that drafts him would be OK with it. There'll be minicamps and whatnot to attend that I imagine fall right in the middle of baseball season. Not to mention, as a 1st or even 2nd rounder, he'd command a pretty nice contract, so I doubt they'd be OK with him playing any sort of college athletics at that point.

Dang that sucks. Hopefully he'll stay...I live in Austin and I'm planning on going to see the baseball team in action when they come play in San Antonio in March. Met Golden last year and my wife is a huge fan. **keeping fingers crossed**

Just because these guys are fits because of size does not make them better pro prospects than Tate, I'll be honest and say that in my opinion Tate may be the best Pro difference maker I have seen come from the offense in many yrs at Notre Dame. He is a possible comparison on the pro level to Tim Brown and may have the potential of Rocket as far as what they hope he will be. I will take him right now over any of the other 3 guys mentioned above. Are you kidding me, did you see him in the open field, its not even close to what he may do in the pros compared to those other wideouts. Those guys are pure receivers yes but not game breakers, hell Tate could play 3 positions on Sunday.

I love Tate as much as the next guy and think he will make a very good pro, but when you talk about how they will be viewed as a prospect when coming out guys like Julio Jones, Green and, Floyd will all be superior prospects. At WR when looking for a true number one size does seem to make a big difference look at Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Vincent Jackson, Larry Fitz etc. Not only do those guys have the athletic ability and hands but their size pushes them over the top, and concerning Tate that will probably one of the biggest questions about him going into the draft. I actually don't think it will be as big of an issue because he is very strong, jumps high, attacks the ball, and can break through tackles very well, but idk what the scouts will think. I have read that Tate will max out at about a late first round grade though matter if he stays or goes, so honestly it is probably best for him to go and not risk injury or anything

I think that the biggest, loudest, most important thing that scouts will be looking at is, how did Tate perform when Michael Floyd went down? I think he absolutely proved that he can flourish, even when defenses scheme to take him out of the game.

Size is not as much of a concern for the slot recievers....... Look at Harvin, Welker, Sprolles, etc.

Small quick powerful recievers, who can block continue to raise in value in the NFL, and teams are taking notice, alot. Golden will continue to improve his route running, and his blocking and athletic ability are already NFL caliber. I dont think he will break all the tackles he did in college, but with that speed and those moves, it doesnt matter.

As far as the "best for him to go and not risk injury or anything", what really matters is if he has his degree yet. If he doesnt, which no one on here has given solid info on that i have seen, i believe i have heard his mother wishing that he would stay and recieve it.
Tates the man.

Follow the bouncing ball... Golden will follow Clausen's lead. The restaurant crowd, that's in close proximatey to campus, where a lot of the admin. and athletic bigs supp.... feel that Jimmy will do another year.

None of them are Jimmy...

I think Tate can end up much more than a slot-receiver, although I think he would excel in a Wes Welker type of role. I think that Steve Smith would be a good comparison. Both are not the biggest guys but they can go up and get a ball and are very dynamic with it after the catch.
