Just thought I should open up a thread with thoughts on the entire press conference. Some brief interesting things I noticed:

1) Swarbrick and Ianello both said some very nice things, directly and indirectly, about Charlie, which was nice to hear.

2) Swarbrick said that he personally valued defense in a head coach (aided by the amount of top-tier defensive schools in BCS bowl consideration). However, he said it would be narrow-minded to limit the search to only a defensive-minded coach.

3) Swarbrick's one very definitive statement, in my opinion, during the press conference, is when he said (can't remember the quote exactly) that they would be looking for a coach with sustained success in the D-1 football ranks. The quote was very similar to that - if my memory serves me correctly.

4) On a final note, I was very impressed again by Ianello. I hope he is retained, because you can tell how recruits and their parents would love a guy like this in their living room. I wish the best to him, and I am happy that Swarbrick retained him for his current position.

I love how Jack danced around the question about Bob saying he was staying at OK.

ding ding ding........top tier defensive schools almost always monopolize BCS bowls and NC games.

I thought Jack did a fine job at the press conference and paid great tribute to Charlie. I thought it was fitting and emotional to a point that Jack made a point to let everyone know just how much Charlie did for the school and his men. Mentioning the graduation rate attained during Charlie's tenure was spot on.

Wow..... thanks for the link JefMaj. Found another very very interesting tid bit in the middle of the blog.

Heres a stat not many people knew....

Would you like to know what might be the surest bet in sports — one that may come into play if the men who run the University of Notre Dame throw Charlie Weis under the bus and hire a new football coach? When Notre Dame hires an experienced, successful, major college football head coach, the success rate in turning the Irish into national champions is 100 percent. When Notre Dame hires anybody else, the success rate is 14 percent.

You read that correctly. Since 1940, every single time Notre Dame has hired a college football head coach who has taken multiple teams to major bowls and achieved Top 10 national rankings, he has coached the Irish to at least one national championship and has posted regular Top 10 finishes in the national rankings. Every single time.

Of the other seven coaches, Notre Dame has hired in that time period, only one has turned the Irish into national champions.
Think im going to post it in the coach thread as well.... very interesting.

I saw most of it. I was very impressed by what they had to say, and everything they said about Charlie was true. I also liked when Ianello talked about everyone else being involved. He said the coaches could stay at school all day, go home and not read the newspapers, watch the news or go on the internet, but their families have to deal with everything. Ianello went up 10 notches in my book after today.
