Ron Powlus and Rob Ianello...and you achieve what you need to.
I was not impressed with any facet of this team outside the passing game, and recruiting...
...agree with some of the sentiments that the Oline was better, but still not good. The tight end position disappeared as a weapon because our interior fell back to their old ways.
The defense...did we field one...dbacks were not well coached...could not cover, could not tackle. Linebacker play was marginal...smith was absent, Manti made some nice plays, but he's a freshman...geez. The line...and ends...seriously TOAST. The Scheme (was there one) SUCKED ASS!
Special teams...took a serious step backwards on kick coverage...kicking improved, but how could it not.
So why Ron powlus...like others said Jimmy mad HUGE strides this year...either that was Powlus, or he participated...I like that plus, some folks talked about the need for PA penetration...I agree...JoePA does not have to leave PA to put a defense on the field, and if he concentrated on a 150 mile circle around Wilkes Barre PA, and did nothing else, he could still compete (yea I know alot of great kids come from the Pitt side of the state too). If you want battle tested ferocity on defense...I believe we need to spend some more time in JoePAs back yard....and who puts out more engineers than any other state in the land...you guessed it...PA, so I think you have a target rich environment of kids with a high probability of handling the academic standards. That area I described...thats Ron Powlus' home range...(Rocket and Ricky Watters too)...we've shown we can get some skill kids out of PA (walls, banks, costello, Lezynski) but the fatties and linebackers...we NEED those badly (POZ is the only one beides Kavanugh, a damned long snapper at 180#). I think Ron can be instrumental in bringing home some PA fatties and backers.
So why Rob Ianello...recruiting. Whatever happened when CW came...the recruiting part was awesome...Rob is the guy that has that playbook, and to some degree, the relationships with the current crop...he deserves to stay.
