If Stoops comes, do we get any of his recruits?

do you think we'll get any OU recruits to jump ship if we land Stoops? (sort of like with Calipari's memphis to kansas players)

I dont know about that. I am sure much of Stoops staff would stay at Norman and would not be surprised if Vrenables take over. I think its would put at ease all of our recruits that might sway like Martin or Nix. It might even help with Henderson and Prater.

I could see Justin McCay and Blake Bell both coming, especially if Tommy Rees decommits. Whatever happens, I think if Stoops comes we benefit from recruiting. I think Martin would stay and any decommit would be countered by a better player committing. The biggest benefit is that Stoops develops talent on defense.

Oh and hiring Stoops WILL NOT give us a direct pipeline to Texas. We might do better in the state than we did with Weis but its a different mentality down there.

Man I live on the New Mex / Tex border. What of this mentality do you speak of? Do you mean in the form of OU or UT or the highway? I have lots of friends and of course Texas and OU are huge here. But there isn't a soul in highschool football that isn't gonna miss Betty Sue and momma's home cooking. But factor in a adventurous spirit and some good recruting and I'd have to say I disagree 110%. Most kids that hail from Texas and go to OU navigate via land-based vehicle. A plane trip home from Southbend back to the Longhorn State is 6's brother.

It can be done. Rise up again and then just watch the pieces fall into place. I just think Charlie needs an inside source... Or his replacement.

McCay definetly would be in play.

Bell there is no chance at all, hes been actively recruiting guys to Oklahoma like Barkely did for USC after committing.

If Stoops comes lets not forget that this is Notre Dame, probably 3/4 of his recruiting class going to Oklahoma next season wouldn't even qualify here. Bell & McCay are the only incoming recruits who hold a scholly from Notre Dame.

Was thinking that as well....Prater is high on Oklahoma, Stoops must have something to do with that. I think this would be good for a couple players. McCay would be in play for sure in my opinion. I also think just maybe that a few others would possibly think of jumping. Depending on the interest and how much Stoops influence was on that player making his decision. I'll have to go through some of the OU guys. Plus maybe some with OU maybe as a top and possibly ND around could want to jump ship. Although initially I thought this might kill recruiting I honestly think it might be fine possibly better.

Thing that concerns me about Stoops is he hasn't been able to expand recruiting very well, well at least from the looks of it this season.

lol...might have something to do with their QB going down. If Notre Dame had OK's defense this year, we'd be in the BCS NC hunt.

What I meant also by that was that probably wasnt very clear cut, hasn't been able to go out to other states like on the East Coast or West coast to get players. Just from the looks of it with the recruits this season.

WhoDyIrish...It’s a good point, but why would Stoops travel thousands of miles when you could just go a few hundred to get great recruits. But..... again you do have a valid point.

I doubt it unless they have not made any commitments, probably looked at as pouching. Calipari is at Kentucky.

Stoops has come into Ca a few times but he seems to pick his battles when he leaves the Texas area.

i would love some of stoop's recruits to follow him if he does come here.
every single one of them is a 3 or 4 star, and most of them are on the defensive end,as well as a 4* 6'6 qb.
stoops has the #5 class right now.
i really hope im not setting myself up for disappointment, but if we can land him i will be more excited then i have ever been as an irish fan.

So you're basing a comment on his career recruiting skills by one class that isn't still has more than 2 months to go?

Stoops does well keeping the instate talent home. He does well in TX, KS, and MO all stated in his conference where his team is seen frequently. But he has a history of picking up kids from CA, NJ, GA, VA, NC, OH, NV, LA and several other states.

Geographically he doesn't have to go out of his conference's territory but he has shown for a decade that he's quite capable of doing so.

He averages about an 8th place recruiting ranking on rivals.

I suppose the question regarding OU commits jumping ship is dependent on whether they meet ND's admissons standards.

Who really knows but I would guess there would be a chance that Justin McCay and Brennan Clay might open up and that ND would be a real possibility if Stoops left and was named as the new head coach.

His hire would certainly help landing Prater and WR Darius White back on the radar if he wanted to add further offensive firepower.
