Is Jimmy Clausen ready for the NFL?

IMO, I don't think he is ready for the NFL, but that's not to say he's not going. I have a feeling that since Charlie is going, that he gone too (and might not be the only one). Another year would be good for him, and the team for that matter. Just as the Charlie situation, and who they are going to bring in to replace him, it is a waiting game now, we'll have to wait and see.

Ready to hold the clipboard, if he's lucky. Tampa Bay, Oakland?? Maybe he will fall in the draft and get selected by a quality team where he can learn the NFL game.

I loved Brady Quinn. Yep, I had a man crush on the guy. Brady's struggled a bit in the pros but remember, despite it seeming like an eternity, he's only started nine games (I think it's nine). He could still come around.

That being said, I never developed similar affections toward Jimmy Clausen. I was sick when he pulled up in the Hummer limo to sign. Honestly, he was held back twice in grades K-12 so he's 22 years old which is two years older than most true juniors. He's a man competing with boys on the verge of becoming men. That's an advantage, in my opinion, but that's purely opinion. I don't think he's going to succeed in the NFL but I've certainly been wrong before.

So what am I building up to? Well, what if Jimmy Clausen succeeds in the NFL? As fans, it's all our hopes that ND's NFL players succeed because it makes the school more attractive to recruits. But what can we expect from Jimmy Clausen if he does succeed? Most schools have their former players talking up their colleges (think about the whole "The Ohio State University" thing). I don't expect that Jimmy Clausen will be talking up Notre Dame--in those cute little player intros they do on MNF he'd probably say "Jimmy Clausen, Oaks Christian Academy". And who could blame him? You also hope that your former players will help you recruit. It would be pretty sweet to be sitting in a recruit's living room talking about (in this scenario) superstar NFL QB Jimmy Clausen and be able to look at the recruit and say "Hey, you should talk to Jimmy about Notre Dame" and hand him your cell phone. I honestly can't see Jimmy Clausen doing that or, if he does, he'll probably tell the kid to avoid ND like the plague unless he likes being a punching bag for assholes.

Just a thought.....and a sad one at that. Now I don't expect one incident to ruin somebody's entire experience but I highly doubt that he's had much fun at the school anyway. So I hope that asshole who punched him in the face, no, I'm sorry, Sunday punched him, is happy with himself. I hope he's bragging to all of his friends. And though I'm blowing this out of proportion (or am I?), I hope the dickhead is happy when he's sitting on his couch in the years to come watching ND struggle because they can't get good recruits at the school. Hopefully he'll realize he had role in it all.

I've completed another night of ranting (as if anybody gives a damn!!!). I won't be on for the rest of the week or the Stanford game as I'm going to Boise for Thanksgiving with the family. Should be a fun trip, highlighted by going to see Boise State play Nevada, live on the smurf turf baby!!! It should be a fun game and the crowds are pretty good at Bronco Stadium so I'm ready to rock (and tailgate).

I'll be praying for an ND victory but I'm fully expecting a dejected team to ensure that Gerhart's invitation to the Down Town Atheltic Club is sent by priority mail halfway through the second quarter. I also expect to be home on Sunday night....probably before CW is fired but perhaps he'll be gone already. Seriously, what the hell, the program is falling into shambles anyhow....Swarbrick might as well go for the dramatic effect and walk down on the field in the fourth quarter and force CW to hand over his headset followed by security escorting Weis off the field (preferably he could get really dramatic and hire one of those Georgia State troopers with the big hats to do it!).

Ah what debacle.
