i never think or worry about football too much outside of watching and being on here and the immediate after effects of a win or loss.

but for the first time in a very long time i was in bed and thought about charlie weis, i really feel bad for the guy... i was just sitting there imagining what it must feel like to be in the position he is. knowing full well what is coming and having to sit there and know that you will no longer be involved with all these kids you truely care about... knowing that you will no longer be coaching your alma mater that you obviously feel so strongly about.

i was a big supporter of the fact that weis was not getting the job done the past 2 and a half years. but i like the guy and truely feel bad for him losing his job. although i am sure he will land on his feet somewhere really how could it compare to notre dame?

I don't think I would be able to stand there, with the impending doom looming before me, and be as unflappable and steadfast before the media. I doubt very many people would be able to sit there and answer these same questions about his fate time and time again with the stoicism and candor that he has demonstrated at all times.

Seeing Coach Weis come out with the team arm in arm and seeing them walk out of the tunnel firmly supporting their coach says a great deal about Coach Weis and his character. To see Coach and his players stand out there after so many losses and sing the alma mater with the student body is a testament as well. Especially this last Saturday when he had to know it was the last time he would stand on that field. He understands Notre Dame is bigger than he is. I just hope some of the foundation he has created is preserved after he leaves. I hope they still sing the alma mater after games. I hope they still show the utmost respect for the service academies. And I hope our standards for the young men we bring in to don the gold and blue will not waiver.

Good luck Coach Weis. I wish you and your family all the best.

Absolutely. All the best to CW and especially his family, who unfairly catch far too much crap for being innocent bystanders

As a Marine I was always impressed with his respect for Navy, Army an Air Force. And he instilled that respect in the men he led every Saturday on that field. No coach could ever love Notre Dame and that football team more than Charlie Weis does. It would have been great for his journey to continue here, but life goes on. I wish he and his family only the best in health and happiness in the future.

Semper Fi, Charlie and thank you.

I feel bad for anybody who puts in their maximum effort and comes up short. He couldn't have recruited better or worked harder and it just never came to fruition. It's a shame.

The other article I read today made it seem like Charlie, despite the bravado shown at his press conference, is pretty sure he's gone. He seems like he'll be relieved to leave South Bend and, though he says he'd never resign, I don't believe he'd stay and be absolutely miserable another year.

Sad situation all the way around.

HOOAHH! I'm on the fence here. I find it hard to feel sorry for a guy with a multimillion dollar buyout. And, perhaps most importantly.....Weis appears to be the kind of guy who would be pissed off, if anyone showed him pity. By the same token, I do have sympathy for the guy. He's shown resilience, class, and determination, in the face of extreme adversity. Although I don't pity him, I hope he is wildly successful in whatever is next for him. And..........as crazy as it seems, my ideal scenario would be that ND finds it's next legend, who ends up coaching only about 9 or 10 years, for non-football related issues. At the same time, Charlie continues his head coaching elsewhere, and figures it out. He comes back to ND, and challenges Rockne's all time win record.

I think CW really thought he could turn things around at ND. Maybe if he hadn't gotten out of the gate so fast things could have been different. I think his lack of developing a decent defense greatly contributed to his present situation. Bill will probably welcome him back to NE as an offensive coordinator. I just hope the school makes the right hire. ND needs to find another Ara.

I guess I am in the minority. Guy is an arrogant millionaire that didn't back up his bravado.

I don't hate the guy, but I sure don't feel sorry for him.

I agree with me feeling bad that he wont be able to spend time with players he cares about. Hpowever I find it difficult to feel sorry for someone who will be pretty financially set after this buyout. God Bless Him, but if someone is upsert about getting multi-millinions of dollars then Ill take th emoney and he wont be upset...then maybe i can afford to actually go to ND :) that last part was a joke.

I won't feel bad for someone who lost their job because they didn't perform up to expectations. That's the way life works.
