I really wanted Charlie to be the one who turns things around. With his Giants and Notre Dame background you can understand why I wanted things to workout. Believe me I will be the first to say that Charlie has to go. It's just breaks my heart to see it happen.

no. he knew exactly what he was getting in to.

i feel sorry for joe blow down the road who cant find a job in an awful job market, not some arrogant football coach who will be (and has been) paid so much money he would never really need to look for another job.

I do because it is not always about money. He put his heart and soul into this, he was just in over his head. This was his dream job. So take money out of the equation for a second and just think if you had your dream job and it didnt work out, you would be heartbroken too.

You hit the nail on the head. I believe Charlie loves ND and this was his dream job. It was not all about the money. Not only does he hurt because he failed at his dream job, he hurts because he loves ND as much as we all do. Maybe even more than some on this board.

I think when espn and other news outlets start calling for your head, and the fan base is about 80% decided he has to go, He will be gone after stanford, no doubt, I would love him to stay and work on nothing but defense this year and get number 31 off the field, so he can pratice tackling.....oh yea and thanks for the penalty 31, dumbass.....I am VERy sorry for the guy though.....I wish him the best

I can't feel sorry for multi-millionaires.

I really dont understand this statement. Charlie Weis has failed. Anybody with humanity who saw him crying while sending off his true blue first crop of seniors knows that this guy put all he had into this.

Do I feel sorry for him? Yes. Why? Because he busted his ass in every facet of his job and loves Notre Dame as much as any coach weve ever had and he is going to lose his job and will never reach career heights this high again.

Money has nothing to do with it. There are happy people who make $12 an hour and their are miserable people who make 500K a year. Leave money aside.

I have a 9 year old son. As I understand it, young Charlie is getting tormented at school over his dad. Im trying to think about this from in my own shoes. I dont think millions of dollars could console me knowing my son was getting abused at school over my career. I would be devastated.

We all should feel bad for him. Yes, he is not a great coach. He came in with a lot of arrogance and he learned a valuable lesson I believe.

The numbers just came out, ND graduated 96% of its players. #1 in the country. Charlie lost games on saturday but he prepared young men for success. He deserves at the least our pity for this. He will leave behind talented players to build on. His work ethic should be envied.

He tried hard and failed. It happens all over the place.

young Charlie is getting tormented at school over his dad. .

i feel sorry for him, then. he didnt sign on for any of this. charlie knew all about what came with the job and said so when he came to ND. it's just that he was so arrogant, that he probably never really believed he would be anything but the savior for the program.

charlie says he loved his job as an O coordinator. he will still be able to do a job he likes and make lots of money. most people would give anything to be in that position.

No. I did not feel sorry for Davie or Ty either.

Yes, but the diffence is that neither Davie or Ty cared that much about ND. They could have been coaching anywhere else and it would not have mattered to them. In fact, I would have bet they both would have been happier if they coached elsewhere. Charlie loves ND and is an ND guy.

1. I don't give a shit what these guys do after they "graduate," not do care about their lives Sunday-Friday.

2. No offense, but we don't pay a coach millions of dollars to prepare men for the game of life. Plain and simple, he's paid to win football games, that's it, and that will always be it.

3. I do not care about Charlie Jr. If Charlie Weis cared so much about his kid at school being made fun of, he should have never taken the job. It's school, everyone gets made fun...such is life.

4. Charlie Weis was crying because he failed, and failed miserably. It's like the guy in the courtroom...he's not crying because he's sorry, he's crying because he got caught.

5. If I have to hear another excuse of ,"WE PREPARE MEN FOR LIFE," I might vomit.

6. If money didn't have anything to do with it, his hypocritical, egotistical self would resign.

Charlie had the opportunity to remain head coach at
ND for the rest of his life if he had succeeded. No ND fan wanted to see him fail. He didn't appear at any time to learn from his mistakes. See quote from Lou Holtz below regarding lost opportunity.

I have some advice for you. Latch on to an NFL team if these players are disposable to you. This is a college. Of the 100 kids on the team, maybe 5-10 of them make it to the NFL. The other 95-100 are moving on in life.

The question was if I feel sorry for him. I do. Its my opinion. You have yours. If CW was negligent in any manner, maybe I wouldnt be. But he gave the job 100%.

If your mad about somebody elses money, I suggest diverting that attention to the former athletic director and administration. They decided it was neccesary to give a 10 year contract extension to somebody coaching their 7th college game. I dont give an ounce of blame to this to Charlie Weis. 100 out of 100 people wouldve taken that deal. He didnt demand it. The school initiated it. Its on ND, not Weis.

Is winning a foreign concept? Last time I checked, winning was 99% of the puzzle. Are the players on academic scholarships? No. They are are on "FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIPS." What's the purpose of giving them football scholarships? I thought it was to win, but apparently everyone else on this board thinks it's to improve their quality of life and to mold them into great young men. All of you are the problem with Notre Dame football...Place the blame on someone else, never hold anyone accountable, and you don't care about winning.

Did I not say Charlie Weis has failed?

The question asked was do I feel sorry for him? I absolutely do.

Can I separate the man from the job? Yes.

Personally I feel sorry for Charlie Weis. Job speaking, of course winning is the biggest part of the job.

I honestly hope Mr Swarbrick really does do a evaluation in the truest sense of the word.

I hope he can distinquish Notre Dame players fumbling on the goal line or throwing ints at the goaline in games or field goal misses from well within range. I hope he sees personal foul penalties on a player after a 3rd and 10 play that sails 10 yards out of bounds in a 14-0 ballgame.

Gone by the wayside is PERSONAL accountability. CW takes all the blame. He never diverts it when clearly the blame isnt all on him in many cases this year.

They also have to represent the University as good young men. Go be a Florida or Miami fan or someone else that is just a football factory. Your posts are really getting disgusting. The "I dont give a shit about Charlie Jr." or "I dont give a shit what these guys do after college" make you sound like a pig. You clearly are just a miserable person who has no heart and can show no emotion other than anger.

I feel bad. And this sounds stupid, but if you take away Saturdays in the Fall, he has done everything perfectly.

WE are the problem with ND?? Some dudes on a message board? Are you serious? Go look at other message boards, especially the past month...they are KILLING Charlie. On this message board, people are killing Charlie. The alumni, who really count, are killing Charlie. How are WE the problem?

You need to do some more reading here, then spout off. Go look through the game threads, and then say we don't care about winning. I have over 1,000 damn posts on a meaningless message board, and you say I don't care about ND winning? People have different opinions on who is to blame and how much of it should go around, but people here and everywhere are holding people accountable, especially CW...
