The problem with CW, even back in 05/06, was that he didnt beat anyone that was ranked. (aside from like 22nd ranked PSU). Michigan doesnt count bc that ended up 7-5 or something. End of the year rankings are what counts. His wins came against teams ND should have beaten. He has never beaten anyone he shouldnt have. His teams always play to the competition.
He lost two navy twice.
BC twice
Got smashed in BCS games. (didnt really belong there)
Lost to one of the worst teams in football in 08.
In 2008 they started out strong, and fell apart in the second half of the season. 2009 was the same. I dont see us beating stanford. If we beat uconn we will be 7-5. With this team...its not good enough.
Sure, you can bring up progress in losses. But they are still losses. Fundamentals and technique are lacking. The players are lost in the scheme, and have lost all their confidence. I was at the Pitt game. It was like watching 08's team out there. It was pathetic to watch.
Personally, I am not a fan of his playcalling. He uses the run to set up the pass. We couldve controlled the clock against Navy and Pitt to get W's. But CW insisted on running the same 5 pass plays.
I don't want to beat a dead horse, but if he would've ran the ball against UM and punted away. The odds of winning go up dramatically. But no, he had to throw the ball.
BC laid a blueprint to stop CW and he hasnt changed his gameplan. Even though BC lost, they knew CW wouldnt get away from the pass and if they dropped back in there soft coverages JC would have to throw short. Basically, if you stop CW from getting big plays you will beat him.
Pitt followed suit, and so did Navy.
He has his plans and ideas and wont adjust. He is not a good head coach. Hell of a guy. But he belongs in the booth calling plays under a head coach who will veto him if things start to go sour.
