Best case scenario?

I would love to see someone else come-in to lead this team. Someone with proven college program experience, and success at this level. You all know the names floating around, and I hope it's one of them!

However, in-turn I would like to see CW restructure his contract to stay on as offensive coordinator. He's good at it, and if focused on just "O", we would thrive. No more press conferences, no more uncomfortable moments during his halftime walk into the locker room, no more "I have tunnel vision...", yadda, yadda, yadda. You all know about these times that make you feel embarrassed to be a Domer. All this would go away if we had a leader to be the face of this team. CW loves ND, and I'm sure whatever happens wants to ensure the university if left on good terms, and this would be a great scenario.

I know it's an ego hit, and I don't know if anyone has ever done this, but it would be innovative and good for the program. Plus, he can stay in town, ensure CW Jr. goes to ND, still make a bunch of $$$, be in the press box, etc.

Doubt it would happen, but would be interesting if it did.

If he does accept the buyout, he can make sure his kid goes to ND. I believe Leahy or somebody else did this to ensure their children get a college education.

Does he still get free tuition? Or are you saying he could afford it after the buyout? Either way, I think he could scrape up any amount of cash he needs!

No one would scructure a buy-out committing the position of OC to an ex coach. That would be built in conflict - what if he doesn't see eye to eye with new hire. If that's the case - the AD should just say they are hiring the DC of their choosing.

I think he could negotiate it to make sure he goes there, not by getting more money just part of the benefits of accepting.

Interesting scenario, but you can't handcuff the new coach and expect success. He needs to be able to pick his own guys.

Since when has Weiss been good at Offensive Cordinator? How many of his 4th and 1 calls worked , when the intelligent play was the field goal?

Weis (one s) has always been an amazing offensive coordinator. Try and name 5 better ones in college football. No one was complaining about the 4th and 1 calls his first couple years, and I'm sure no one is complaining about the one he made against Pitt. Its easy to pile on Weis right now with how things are going, but saying he has never been a good offensive coordinator is pretty far from the truth.

Lighten up PADOMERNUT. It's ppl like you that make newbies like me not want to view and post on this site. There are too many threads to go through every one to know this was already posted, so give it a rest.

Its not that it has been discussed before (even though it has) its that is has zero chance of actually happening, so it isnt worth discussing. We have all had pointless threads closed by Mods before, its not a big deal. Didnt mean for you to take it personally, my apologies...

I would be Ok with CW as the OC and recruiting coordinator for offensive players. He can sit up in the booth where is comfy in many ways and we can go from there. If this team right now has a top 20 defense and good punt team we are undefeated and ranked #4 right now. The more I think about it as long as he would bond with a new coach it could work. They could still keep the buy-out clause in his contract if it doesn't work out and reduce his salary to 25% below the new head coach.

I see what y'all are saying that it "won't happen", and I tend to agree since most of the head coaches we're looking at are offensive minds anyway (kelly, meyer, etc). But if it were to happen that a non-offensive head coach was hired, I would wonder if he would consider keeping Charlie on as O-coordinator. It's just an interesting thought, and would give CW some redemption, but also give him an ego hit.

Then Brady could throw deep balls twenty yards out of bounds in the first quarter instead of in the last two minutes of the game.

The best case scenario: Weis is fired, Brian Kelly is hired to replace him, Clausen and Tate stay another year, and we get a competent defensive coordinator while hauling in a couple of decent recruits between December and February.

it is not like weis has the market cornered on brilliant offensive play calling schematics. in fact, it was brought up that he has had trouble producing any kind of solid running game and depends very heavily on clausen connecting with floyd and tate.

Way to kill the dream!!! I was thinking more along the lines of Brady performing the way he did at Notre Dame. It also brings up the point that Maybe Weis is that good. Brady was awesome under Charlie & now he's a huge flop, may not be a coincidence.
