Weis has had more than enough time to make a go of it. If you think the university and fans should be chained to an incompetent coach because somehow he manages to recruit well, you are asking for another year of mediocrity. What was it they said about the meaning of insanity - doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results? Charlie has already admitted this is how he coaches -- no changes, same thing every week.

Plus, recruits ALWAYS SAY they'll only play for so-and-so coach. But I guarantee you, if these recruits see Charlie replaced by someone like Brian Kelly or Urban Meyer, they will be happy to come to South Bend.

The problem with this logic is making the same mistake includes hastily firing a coach. The next coach should be THE guy. Whether the administration believes its Urban, Kelly, Harbaugh, Gruden, or whoever. That person needs to be contacted now and made a serious offer. Once that hire is made privately then fire Weis. If you are going to fire Weis only to be turned down by everyone and end up hiring Fitzgerald or some other plan b option thatn there is no reason to fire Weis

You're restricting the search only to those coaches who are currently out of coaching with that approach, otherwise it's tampering.

ND can do the back channel things to set things up but they will ask permission to interview. No school is going to say yes at this time with the quality of coach you want as that school has a Bowl Game upcoming. Go past the bowls and you have the window between bowls and National Signing Day. Last recruiting weekends of the year take place then. A big event on major college campuses.

What recruit is going to commit to say Stoops, Kelly or the other usual supspects if that coach is interviewing with ND?

ND has not hired a coach with one still employed since a newspaper reporter asked Hunk Anderson what he thought of Elmer Layden hire as the new ND HC in 1934. UND hadn't gotten around to telling Hunk he was no longer employed. Eventually UND announed Anderson and Jesse Harper had both resigned after the first losing season since 1888.

Did you watch the presser that this quote came from?

If you had, you would understand how completely out of context the media has taken it. Weis was asked what he would do differently, during the week, to help the team recover from the Navy loss. He responded that they coach the same way, every week. They don't throw away the practice schedule, because they lost a game. He stressed that the best way to help the kids get over it, was to focus them on the next week's opponent. THAT'S what he meant by not changing anything.

So, given the context, do you think that he is wrong?

OMG. Out of context! Out of context! Someone call the libel police!

You are missing the forest for the trees. Charlie is a lousy coach, my friend. Whether he owns up to it or not, it's clear as day. 3 years with his prized recruits, and ND is 6-4. This is unacceptable.

I went to the Pitt game last weekend. I walked out with an older ND fan, and I said aloud, "I think Charlie is gone." The guy said, "of course he's gone. He doesn't have control out there."

I could not put this any better. Charlie doesn't have control of the program. He owns the record, the recruiting, and the results. Let's move on, people.

I think he is gone, too. I don't agree with it, but I understand it. However............

Let's be honest about it. He's not gone because he is a "lousy coach". He's gone because his football genius is limited to the offensive side of the ball, apparently.

The fact he is oblivious to defense is what makes him a lousy head coach.

You can argue he was a great OC for Belichik. I wouldn't argue. But none of the Pats Asst coaches have had similar success as head coaches.

Watching CW mismanage the defense for 3 years reminds me Why Frank Beamer is such a great coach. He understands there is more to football than drawing up passing plays on your napkin.

see ya chris martin, see ya Kyle prater.....see ya golden tate, see ya clausen, it was nice knowing ya. you thought ND lost before.....be ready for years of more shit..

you should care about recruits leaving...according to sentiment I read, it doesnt matter if you get good guys in here or not. any coach should be able to recruit 1-3 star players and turn them into winning a NC.

ignorance is bliss

you are absolutely right...

Oh, yeah, thats right Charlie always contends for the scouts.com National Championship, I almost forgot.

Yes because the new coach coming in could never get good recruits. Its just impossible.

Oh no Tate and Clausen might leave early!!!! What have we won with them in 3 years of them playing? Were gonna be 7-5 this year. Where is this great tragedy? Were we gonna all of a sudden be 12-0 next year?

i could care less if chris or kyle come to south bend....if the coach can't coach "these 5 star" recruits he has to go.....there are coaches out there coaching 2/3 star players into top 10 teams....

"Clausen and receiver Golden Tate. They are juniors, and NFL owners are demanding a new agreement that would limit big rookie bonuses starting in 2011. So this is Clausen's and Tate's last chance. They need to turn pro. "

lol Weis should stay because he recruits 5 star talent, pity they don't play like 5 star talent, Kelly has done a better job at Cincinnati with 3 star talent. Stars don't mean jack.

They aren't going to win the division, and Mike Nolan deserves just as much if not more credit than McDaniels since the defense has carried the Broncos.

So John Tenuta bears just as much, if not more, blame than Charlie Weis, for the lack of defense at ND?

Yes he does.

I'm not pointing this directly at you, just using this to illustrate how odd it is, that everyone seems to want Weis gone, while very few will lay much blame at Tenuta's or Brown's feet.

Everyone involved with this program should be blamed, but Weis will take most of the heat because he is the head coach, much like McDaniels will get most of the praise because he is the head coach.

Clausen and Tate don't need to turn pro. I think these are 2 players that no matter what the rookie cap is in 2011 they will earn their money.

Isn't this like the 3 DC in 5 years? When the players aren't playing to their potential and the coaching is suspect, all signs point to the Head guy.
