So then you are saying that Weis is probably gone? There is probably a .01% chance Clausen returns at this point. Like I've said, don't expect Clausen and Tate to return. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.

JC is not ready for the NFL. Look at the current greats, all stayed for their senior years (Manning etc....)

lol buddy. But they were a high school all star team a couple of years ago (as described by the twice polarized CTF ).

I am not a big fan of CW's "system", but I say ONE MORE YEAR before we all start some serious bitching.

I think I'm over the Navy fiasco. I ate me some Cracker Jacks (surprise inside).

My wife is in the Navy and wears the Cracker Jack uniform, so I............. and now I'm over the Navy loss.

The possibility of bringing Jon Gruden in is awfully enticing. I would like us to reach out and look at possibly Turner Gill from Buffalo or the young gun down at Houston

Turner Gill? Come on. Hasnt ND learned about promoting coaches up to ND from lower ranks?

Get a top of the line guy who is already a big time coach and stop with the flavor of the month crap.

Great lets get Turner Gill, then if we have to fire him we get to relive all the Ty Willingham racist accusations again.

Stop Idolizing Recruits

Stop Idolizing Recruits

I keep reading about the recruits and if Weis is fired the precious, shiney recruits might bail.

OH WELL.

You come to ND for the school, the program, and opportunity. Charlie Weis isnt your daddy.

If they fire Weis and 5 guys leave. OH WELL.

Maybe the next guy comes in and entices 5 other guys that otherwise werent on the radar.

Since these recruiting services popped up, weve prized these guys like little golden coins. Oh wow hes 4 stars!! Oh hes a 5 star recruit!!

Whoppee doo. Aldridge and Sam Young were 5 star guys. If I told you they were 2 stars you would say "uh huh, sounds right"

Do you know who the best recruiter in Notre Dame history was? He took in a whopping 8 Parade All Americans in his first year on the job. These were top 100 players in the country. He recruited NFL talent his entire tenure. Good NFL players. He was.............Gerry Faust!!!!!

But, I glued their little bobble head statues to my dashboard with super-glue and if I pull them down - I'll tear the vynal. I just fixed the pre-mature Omar Hunter damage with Chris Martin's.

um, part of the reason kids come to a specific school (if recruited) is due more to the coach than said specific school.

there's been plenty of situations where coaches were canned and the recruits bailed. sorry but that's how it works.

you can bitch and complain all you want. the head coach (or his recruiting assistants) is usually what draws the kids to the school for the most part.

now i agree that they should be coming to notre dame for more than the football. but college football has become such a business now-a-days.

a coach has to sell what he can do for the kid to get to the next level (the nfl). the bright spot for them coming to nd is the education and life long lessons.

Clausen has even said that he came to ND to be coached by Weis. In an interview last week he said something like he probably wouldn't be at ND if Coach Weis wasn't here.

And Maybe some of the guys who inexplicably went to Illinois wouldve come here if not for Weis? Who knows, who cares.

Notre Dame had one bad recruiter in the last 50 years - Ty Willingham.

It isnt exactly a tough situation to recruit ND.

Were gonna keep a guy based on holding together a recruiting class? Its ridiculous. These guys arent playing like blue chippers so theres obviously a problem isnt there?

I care that Clausen came to ND. He's an amazing talent and it's been great to watch arguably the best QB ever to play at ND.

I obviously don't know how hard it is to recruit at ND, but I have to think that it's far more difficult now that it was 20 or 30 years ago. I can see that Weis works his ass off to bring in talented kids to South Bend and he still loses many recruits to other schools. It doesn't appear to be that easy.

Now, I think that Weis being fired would have an impact on recruiting, but I would have to agree that using that as the lone excuse to keep is around is crazy.

I think the real problem is the blue chippers they're getting aren't turning out to be as good as advertised in a lot of situations. It's just hard to predict the talent and drive of a 17-18 year old kid. As a fellow 49er fan I'm sure you know that Joe Staley went to school at Central Michigan and Delanie Walker played ball at Central Missouri State.

You had to bring up the 49ers.......I watched that Thursday nighter and then thought about the Montana/Young/ Rice teams and to see where its at from that point is depressing.

It isnt as easy to recruit ND as it was 20 years ago - this is true but come on. ND has so many built in advantages that its ridiculous. Its own Network? Notre Dame is its own franchise unto itself. No ther school is mentioned by name in the BCS rules. For Gods sake there are rules that say "and Notre Dame" in the BCS.

It is college footballs Mecca. Its not exactly a tough sell.

I'm willing to roll the dice at this point instead of spinning our wheels over and over again. There is no reason to believe Weis could get it done next year if he couldnt in this one. None.

i am in agreement with you........weis ain't gonna get anything straightened out.......period.....the guy makes gerry faust look good. that is no put down to mr. faust.....he is actually a likeable guy who still attends ND games.

Guys,
If Charlie is fired and Bob Stoops is hired, say hello to one hell of a recruiting class. I am willing to bet we bring in several kids who are on the bubble.

lets put it this way......nebraska has never had a black head coach.....they overlooked turner gill......they come across as racists......not ND

As much as I despise Colin Cowherd...he had a pretty good show the other day stating the recruiting in midwest vs. SEC and BIG 12 schools. Midwest schools like ND and Michigan have that advantage of being who they are, but think about this...your 18 years old and have hundreds of offers from schools ranging from Florida to ND..who would you take? Florida, due to two reasons...Florida's unreal success this last decade and the weather. Some 18 year old kid isn't going to care about the Four Horseman and Touchdown Jesus, he's going to worry about what are my chances of winning a title or two. Teams like ND are now having to "convince" recruits to come an play unlike the Florida's and Texas's just asking recruits to come and play.

How is this conversation still taking place? We have several pro prospects on our offense right now. Clausen, maybe the best QB in the country. Tate and Floyd, maybe the best WR duo in the country. Rudolph, maybe the best TE in the country. So it's hard to recruit to ND, huh?

yea...i find it a bunch of bs myself too about these rankings....who was that 2 star running back that plays for Pitt?...yea....2 stars.....those "stars" don't mean shit..

some of these people get so caught up with the "stars" that they expect these 5/4 star players to be the next "coming" next to jesus....:jerkit:

I don't believe that I said it was hard...I was saying that it's easier to recruit at those schools...if you don't see that then you must not be watching the games.

Once Tyrone Willingham's recruits left, Weis stopped winning, that should tell you all you need to know about Weis's recruiting.

I know things have been rough this year and for that matter the last three years. However, I think if we pull the trigger and get rid of Weis its only going to set the program once again. Forget about recruits leaving this years recruiting class for a moment. We could lose guys like Crist, Teo, Floyd, Evans, Riddick, and a host of others. Its happened at other programs and you know tons of schools that want them.

those guys wont be leaving when they see a coach with a proven record of winning coming to coach the school at which they chose to play.

high profile coaching hires at marquee schools rarely lose established players. weis sure didnt seem to lose most of the better players that willingham brought in.

see ya chris martin, see ya Kyle prater.....see ya golden tate, see ya clausen, it was nice knowing ya. you thought ND lost before.....be ready for years of more shit..

you should care about recruits leaving...according to sentiment I read, it doesnt matter if you get good guys in here or not. any coach should be able to recruit 1-3 star players and turn them into winning a NC.

ignorance is bliss
