Reasons to Keep/Fire Weis

I love ND, but I just don’t know who ND will bring in.
Brian Kelly-just got an extension to 2013, he’s out.
Urban-he does not have control of his players. How many UF players have been arrested since Urban has been there? Plus I wana see if he can do well at Florida w/o Tebow.
Gruden -has won a Super Bowl, (as a head coach) but some say that he did that with “another coach’s players” and didn’t really do anything after that. Plus he has stated that he is impatient with rookie QB’s, so how do you think he will do with 18-19yr old fresh out of high school QB’s? Plus he has a sweet gig on MNF, soo he is kinda out
Pat Fitzgerald- just took a shot an ND and pretty much called ND losers, sooooo he’s out.
Now Bill Cowher would be my #1 or even Mike Shanahan but I don’t see them moving down to the College level.
So I really don’t know what big names are out there that would be willing to come in and get hammered day in and day out and live under the scrutiny that will come with being the coach at ND.

contract extensions do not mean that they are off the board. Kelly is still on the radar.

that extension at cincinatti means absolutely nothing. brian kelly will be coaching ND next year. Swarbrick just made it a point to state that whatever decision is made in regard to Weis, money will not be an issue. if not he can come to michigan after next season (since apparantly RichRod will be given one more year).

id gladly take Harbaugh at Michigan as well, who, btw, seems to be recruiting good enough to win at Stanford and would recruit a higher caliber of athlete at either ND or Michigan.

TCU's Gary Patterson... Mixes pro style with spread and option - and can put together a D.

I'd hate to see Harbaugh at ND - I don't care if he wins Pac 10 and Rose and finishes in top 10.

I'm glad you brought up to TCU because, though it's a digression from the topic at hand, does anybody else think it's about time that the MWC replace the ACC or Big East in the BCS.

If Boise State joined the Mountain West they would have an even more serious gripe, not that they don't already.

Of those you mention - Big East and ACC... - I agree ACC is down and I'd put Big 11 below Big East. Ohio State could be 5th or 6th in Pac 10 and who in ACC would crack top 1/2 of that Conf.? Va Tech, Ga Tech...then????? I think Big East has saved some face - not because of last night.

Fair enough. I still think the MWC needs some consideration. Especially after Utah, with no gimmickry, pounded Alabama last year. That conference is legit. Maybe they should start signing deals with one another like the basketball teams do. Mountain West/Big Ten Showdown and Pac 10/SEC showdown would be intriguing.

Ok, here is the thing guys.

I heard a stat the yesterday, Weis hasn't won a single game in 5 years over a team that finished the year with less than 4 losses.
This is a hugely disappointing stat.
I have been a Weis supporter, but he needs to be gone.
They have to make sure that they have someone lined up before that.
I would take Gruden or Meyer, but not really wanting Kelly.

DickRod will be at Michigan next year. Unless you see their AD suddenly step down before his Sept/10 retirement date, then he'll be there. As for Kelly, much like every other coach in the country there is an ND buyout clause in the contract. Don't put too much stock in an extension until its signed.

PS:

Cincinnati coach Kelly gets extension through 2013 - USATODAY.com

He is already signed through 2013.

I don't get your point. You say Kelly has a buyout clause for ND, and then you note he's signed through 2013. So he can walk away from the Cincy contract to coach ND. Big whoop. We already knew that.

My point was in response to NDinLA about Kelly's upcoming extension. Which was signed in June.

correct

he is already gone. im certain the decision has already been made so it doesnt matter. even if it hasnt, a loss to uconn would be a nail in the coffin.

to be prepared for the announcement after the season and to introduce the new coach in a timely manner, there are, imo, already inquiries and preparations being made behind the scenes.

I agree with dskoo65. A loss to UConn would be the absolute final nail, if there wasn't one in the coffin already.
I hope that ND can hang within 2 TDs of Stanford.

Only reason to keep him is his large contract, his only decent season was with Tyrone Willingham's recruits.

I'll miss Weis next season.

I will too....I felt awful for him on Saturday night. Must have been tough to see the last nail in your coffin driven in by the officials who are supposed to be completely inconspicuous and have no impact on the game.

Of course you Sidney folk know all about home cooking....got screwed over there in the playoffs my junior year.

That, my friend, was the 1996 semi-finals. Maroons-Eagles. I think we were the two best teams in the state that year.

That was back in the good old days: Rohloff was Miles City's coach, Billings Central sucked (God I hope Frenchtown beats them)....and Colstrip was still in Class A.

I'm from Southern California, so I am admittedly pretty ignorant of anything outside of my little world, but I gotta ask:

Aren't there, like, four high schools in the state of Montana? And don't you all have to travel like 7 hours each way to any game?

Sorry, I kid. I kid. I love Montana, I really do. It gets cold here too. Temperatures are supposed to get down all the way in to the 50's tonight. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

CTF is still in high school Montana, so he probably has no idea what you're talking about LOL...

While we are on the topic any other cali guys remeber when Long Beach Poly played De La Salle. I think it was 2000 or 2001. Maurice Drew ran all over Poly.

bingo. you stated it perfect.

i would also add how unfair it would be to the students who actually have to pay close to $50K per year to attend, if they let football players slide in with less academic standards.

They frequently let athletes in all sports in with less academic standing. The Student Body has a average SAT of 1350 out of 1600. Did you really think ND athletes post those kind of numbers. Stanford's Student Body is the same neighborhood for years their website brags that it takes a minimum SAT of 1000 to get an athletic scholarship.

i could see allowing 1 or 2 players that have potential to grow academically ala Holtz era. but those students would really have to prove themselves in the classroom to jusitify it.

That wouldn't be new. ND isn't going to accept anymore Prop 48 material but almost annually there is a player or players with low scores/grades from Holtz on. ND Admissions put there foot down in '95 when he pushed to far. They rejected two of his NSD signees. One of Willingham's highest rated recruits had an extremely low test score. Entering his HS senior year Mullen was told by ND Admissions personnel that he had to show "significant" improvement or he would not be admitted. If I recall correctly he had a GPA of 2.2 at the time. ND Admissions saw the improvement they required and they issued him a scholarship.
