They were just talking about that on the radio. He absolutely can apply for a medical redshirt, and given the severity and the publicity of the accident, he'd probably get it.

The NCAA is a horrible organization, but when it comes to medical redshirts, they actually hand out quite a few. USC has 2 guys on their rosters right now who are 6th year seniors, and Hershel Dennis got one a few years back. So it's likely he'll be back next year...if he's able and if he wants to. It might help his cause in the NFL if they see he can still bring it...
