Offensive line is THE toughest position to start right away in college. You need to get physically stronger to face the grown men on the other side of the ball, and then you need to get mentally stronger to know the intracacies (sp) of the position. It's ridiculously tough to understand where to go on every play, who to block, HOW to block them, and then do it full speed where you are not thinking about what you have to do, you are just playing. That's why so many offensive linemen redshirt their first year in college (and redshirting says nothing about their talent).

I'm not saying he couldn't do it, I'm just saying that odds are against him. ND does lose 3 linemen, but there are also several talented linemen already on the team getting game reps this year. You have studs like Bullard and Watt who are redshirting this year and will be pusing for the same spots. TRob and Young started aa freshmen, but that was more a testimony to how thin and bad ND's O-Lines were than their talent. I'd love for Henderson (should he choose the Irish) to be good enough to start right away, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least that he didn't...

Robinson will be here, Stewart will be granted a 5th year of eligibility and will return, Wenger will be the center, and Romine is the likely starter next year at one tackle spot. Getting a starting calibur player at the other tackle spot will be critical and Seantrel Henderson would definately fill the bill. My guess:

LT: Romine
LG: Stewart
C: Wenger
RG: Robinson
RT: Henderson

I have seen Watt play in person and have also attended to parties in high school (yea im young, a year older than watt) that he has been and he is a really big kid in person, super athletic, he played basketball also, and he is nasty lineman a great run blocker and really does a great job getting to that second level, so im sold on his talent

The more likely scenario (whether we get Henderson or not), is T-Rob moving to LT, Romine over to RT, with Nuss starting at RG with Braxton Cave right behind him in the 2 deep.

TRob is our best/most athletic offensive linemen -- i'd be shocked if he isn't at LT next year.

Something like this:

LT: Trevor Robinson/Matt Romine
LG: Chris Stewart/Chris Watt or Braxton Cave
C: Dan Wenger/Braxton Cave
RG: Andrew Nuss/Chris Watt or Braxton Cave
RT: Matt Romine/Zach Martin or Taylor Dever or Lane Clelland

I think we have a shot at Henderson, but I don't think he will start from day 1. I wouldn't count out Cleland or Dever.

If we land Henderson I think as long as he can pick up the blocking schemes and know the playbook. Know all his assignments he will start at RT from Day 1.

I dont know. I cant see the line making wholesale changes like that and I would expect the o-line coach would want some continuity along the line. I also am not sure Roinson has the feet to play OT, though he certainly has the ability to be one of the best G's in college football.

I would love to land Henderson and solidify one of those OT spots. Also, lets not fool ourselves, if Henderson picks ND there is no way he is not starting on opening day.

That's what we said about TEO and even he couldn't start from day 1.

But Sam Young was a day 1 starter and Seantrel is a much better prospect than he was and will be a much better player. I cant imagine the coaches "easing" him into the lineup with OT being a need position next season.

Not sure Seantrel is a better prospect than Sam Young was, but it really doesn't matter. Sam Young came into a far different situation than Seantrel will (if he indeed commits to ND)

Seantrel is the number one prospect, but Sam was no jabronee, he was a 5 star recruit also.

Someone want to start a NEW Sam Young thread - or keep beating that dead horse on Hendersen's thread? Mods on vacation?

Why, we can relate Seantrel Henderson to Sam Young when Young was as young as Henderson....

This is a Recruit's Profile, contrasting him with an ND OL as a recruit is appropriate. Getting into a player's ND experience isn't.

People see a new post on a recruit's thread and they open it looking for an update on his status. Instead they find discussions of mock drafts, missed blocks, tackles, drops or coaches. Take that stuff to an existing thread or start one if there isn't one already in the ND Football Thread.

Best Pass Blocker #2 Henderson
The massive, athletic lineman is light on his feet and nearly impossible to knock off balance. Not only is he the top lineman in the country, he's the No. 1 overall prospect.

Most Agile #2 Henderson
Henderson uses his basketball skill set on the gridiron. His athleticism sets him apart from other linemen

Best Athlete #1 Henderson
Henderson doubles as an AAU basketball star in the offseason. He is the total package as an offensive line prospect.

Per ESPN USC Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Henderson will be at USC 12/4 and UF 12/12.

"Our five was our five for a reason," Seantrel's father, Sean, said. "We had our five plus the Gophers, Miami and Iowa, so with that, everybody is always still a consideration. We like everybody for different reasons and things that will benefit Seantrel. Were going to play it by ear. We still have three more visits we have to take before we decide in February."

MIN, OSU, IOWA, and OU make inhome visits this weekend.

BGIF, do you think Ianello will still be on his trail, possibly an in home visit from him as well, or just concentrate on the current commits?

I'm sure Ianello and/or the other assistants will stay in touch with all the recruits, verbals or not. ND assistant in-homes aren't worth much at the moment. Many questions with no real answers.

What's the first question you'd ask Ianello? "Coach, who's the new Head Coach at ND?" Next question would be, "Will you still be there?"

ND needs to get the Search Process done and then the new coach will set the marching orders for recruiting. ND's Banquet is 12/5. It'd be ideal to have the new HC there to address the crowd.

That makes sense. Thanks.

Hopefully we can keep these big name recruits in play like Henderson and as well as holding onto our current commits. This class has a chance to be a great one, but only time will tell.

I know SH isn't a commit, however, Jeff Jeffers said last night on the 11:00 news... all commits had been contacted and "as of last night" after the announcement - no defections -no decommits...
