Can Jimmy take over the top spot this week with a good performance against Washington State? I wonder if
Notre_Dame_logo2.png
will have another good game in a dome just like the Hawaii game?

This game should be a stat game. Completely demolish Wash. St. and don't slow down to improve our players stats. I hope Crist get's some playing time

I doubt it. He's getting close. I think he needs to just have insane numbers agains Wazzu to get close. And the Hawaii bowl last year wasnt in a dome, not that it really matters or anything. lol

Throws for 3, runs for 1, and AA gets 1 and so does Hughes. Teablow throws for 1, runs for 1, and throws 2 Int's - giving him what? Against the SEC - - 4 TD throws, 2 TD runs and 6 Int's (2 pick six's). ESPN declares Teablow is best QB to ever breath and in fact no better football player this year or any other.

The way the season has played out. If he keeps playins at his current pace he will be a finalist at least

There is no doubt he should be up there. But this is probably the most blah year for the Heisman that I can remember. Christian Ponder (FSU) is putting up Clausen like numbers as well. There is a lot of competition in the way of stats. What I think Jimmy has going for him is the leadership intangible.

Gone are the days of "Oh great, down in the 4th quarter, time running out, we have no chance" to now "As long as Jimmy is in, they will find a way". While I would rather the scores be a little higher in our favor, there is no doubt that Jimmy has basically grabbed this team and carried it forward for a few improbable wins this year.

My vote goes to Golden Tate. Jim Clausen is a stud and can win it next year with a run of the table (he'll stay put ). If he stays and I think he will it is a tremendous testement to Notre Dame.

Two ND players currently in the hunt at least. JC and Tate are both making cases for being legitimate contenders. NBC article has a poll taken from HEISMAN VOTERs, which currently has JC at #2 and Tate at #6 in their poll.Link below.

NBC Sports - College Football - Inside the Irish

My opinion, JC would have to avg around 300yds a game w/ around a 7:1 td/int ratio at the end of the year.

Tate needs to return a kick or two for TDs, along with continuing his numbers recieving, rushing(rushing more definately wouldnt hurt at all).

Either way, we need to win out for those guys to have a shot. If not, might as well throw the heisman in the crapper for this year.

Keith Arnold, NBCSports.com:
If Notre Dame wins out, and if the Irish do so, they'll do it behind a potent offensive attack, it's not ridiculous to think that two Notre Dame players could be invited to New York for the Heisman proceedings.

Two Notre Dame players invited to New York would guarantee that neither wins.

Maybe, if you look at the numbers for Kellen Moore and Jimmy you see Clausen's thrown more passes but his Completion % is about 3 points lower. They both had 2 ints but Clausen has a better INT % based on more pass thrown. Clausen has about a 375 edge in passing. Clausen has a about a 0.5 yds/attempt but trails substantially in TD passes.

A couple of things have reduced Jimmy's numbers in recent weeks, obviously the Floyd injury reduced his Passing TDs. Rudolph was thoough to be a featured target but his' been kept in for pass blockind. Parris picked up some of the slack but got injured and is out. Kamara had his best game of the year but struggles with a knee problem and plus he's not a plug in for Floyd. Evans and Walker the next tier of ND Receivers are MIA, be it injury, academics, or whatever. Goodman and Toma are a big drop in talent level and experience, considering the complexity of the ND offense, their not always going to be on the same page with Jimmy reading defenses nor on timing for breaks. Add to that opponents are dropping 8 in coverage leaving ND the underneath. Weis acknowledged that ND's game play for BC was "dink and dunk" take the short pas. ses underneath. He expected Allen to have the most receptions. Didn't work out that way.
Tate still got yards when he took an out route, spun free, juked a Safety and took it all the way. Clausen neeeds a bunch of these and/or Rudolph on the jump balls/ and breaking a screen.

The "dink and dunk" should increase completions in the 70% range but the yds/attempt should suffer with the short passes. Likewise down in the end zone ND should be trying to run ball if the defense drops a bunch back. Jimmy needs Passing TDs to climb over Moore.

Meanwhile Moore has San Jose St on his schedule Saturday as BSU tries to jump back over TCU. Look for BSU to run it up. Should have a big day.

Look for Tate to drop off when Floyd gets back as well. Clausen is the clear ND favourite, but only because there is so much talent at WR.

275 a week with 2 TD's keeps him in the mix. Those type of numbers in wins over Pitt and Stanford could do the trick.

Our luck, he'll do just that and Teblow will run for 34 yards and a 1-yard TD in the SEC title game and be a unanimous selection. Barf.

the heisman has become a load of crap. it goes to the player who has the best PR dept. nowadays,

If tebow gets it this year this award will lose any credibility it has left which is slim to none anyways.

Mild agreement.

That said, if we hear:

"And the winner of the 2009 Heisman Trophy is.........Jimmy Clausen, University of Notre Dame."

all will be forgotten.

If Jimmy takes us into overtime in the SC game this coversation is moot, cause he would have already won. That being said, he still has an excellent chance of winning. We CANNOT lose one more game, that is number one, and if he just keeps doing what he's doing then I honestly think he wins it. The barometer though is the Win/Loss column. If we go unbeaten the rest of the way into a BCS game, Jimmy WILL be posing in New York.
