I find collegefootballnews.com to be one of the best places to go for unbiased, great college football coverage. They picked USC 27-17 earlier in the week, but had Clausen as #1 in the Heisman race.

I couldn't agree more with the following:

Could Notre Dame play with the big boys? Yes. Taking USC down to the final second with a few shots into the end zone qualifies. At the very least, the team proved it could find ways to come back when all hope appears lost. Who comes back from down 20 in the fourth quarter against USC and has a chance to win? Yeah, coffee is for closers only, but Notre Dame had to have earned a major measure of respect for battling so well on the big stage.

USC won and is still in the national title chase, Charlie Weis lost, but showed that his program is still on the rise, and Jimmy Clausen once again showed that he is the real deal with two touchdown passes against a secondary that hadn’t allowed any all year long.

I really think this program is on the rise.

The highlighted parts are good. I'm already tired of hearing about how the opposing QB of the week is the greatest ever. Forcier, Barkley, etc.

Tough to say if it's on the rise or not. Seems to me that CW is capable of working well with upper classmen but not so much the younger guys. Not many of the current squad played well as sophomores and certainly not as freshmen. I'm hoping we aren't going to have two lousy years out of every four but that, at this point, seems to be the cycle.

remember that weis developed all of the current juniors and seniors. he's actually developing the talent, though it's arguable how much potential talent weis has left on the table. hopefully the theory that weis works best with upperclassmen is true. Our current team/talent depth will, in theory, produce a reload effect where players don't start until they're upperclassmen, see USC UF etc. This will prevent the 2007 and 2008 issue of too many frosh and sophs starting. let's pray we inspired some more recruits to attend ND today to increase the likelihood of simply reloading in a couple years.

In an evening of obtuse posts this one stands out as exceptionally blunt.

Do you read what you post?

Yet he has 16 freshman and sophomores, not counting Floyd, on the current 2 Deep. Te'o, Rudolph, Robinson, KLM, Johnson, Williams, Evan, Fleming, Blanton, etc, etc. He's obviously notworking well with them, is he?

Not many of the current squad played well as sophomores and certainly not as freshmen.

Not many ... how cute. No names, no numbers, no specifics, just another unsubstantiated glittering generality.

  • Kamara, set freshman records which Floyd, a sophomore broke them.
  • Tate, a Junior, played as well as any running back playing OJT WR. He might be a AA WR by the end of the season.
  • Clausen, a Junior, didn't play as a freshman as he does as a junior but he was fresh off throwing arm surgery and played behind all those OLs Willingham NEVER recruited.
  • Armando Allen, a Junior, is the #2 All-Time Leading RB Receiver in ND history
  • Robby Parris had what 9 catches today. Wasn't he the leading receiver as a sophomore before Floyd and Tate arrived.
  • Brian Smith, Kyle McCarthy they can't relate to Weis either, can they.
I'm hoping we aren't going to have two lousy years out of every four but that, at this point, seems to be the cycle

"seems to be the cycle ... "

You have no conception of the word "cycle" do you?

Merriam Webster: cycle - an interval of time during which a sequence of a recurring succession of events or phenomena is completed

'05 9-3
'06 10-3
'07 3-9
'08 7-6
'09 4-2 with 6 to go

There has been NO recurring succession of events, has there?

Or are you forecasting a 7 game losing streak for a 4-8 2009 season?

ND had two bad years (one losing season) on the field directly related to Willingham's gross recruiting malefeasance. As a result Weis had to play freshman and sophomores who are now the upperclassmen.

Your post is baseless.

You will never see another year klike 2007. This team is not like 05 because we wont have to replace talent next year, we will reload. Thats what recruiting allows you to do. The gap has gotten smaller and this is with a young D. lets see how they like KLM and Te'o next year
