ppl making too much about this uncapped season....

the economy still sucks, contracts are still on the lowside....do you think he would get a bigger contract now then other times? there is rookie salary structure in place, it can only be so big.

The biggest thing with the uncapped season is teams can now sign that big money free agent for big bucks....rookie contracts are for the most part locked in.

besides, after the Raiders got burned $30million by the worst pick in NFL history, I dont see any big guranteed rookie contracts going to anyone. (had to get a JRUSS jab in there)

As good as Clausen is, he can benefit from another year at ND, I think ppl will agree with that across the board. Look at Quinn, he is still having problems and I think he was well prepared.

Mr. Clausen will be back.....(trust me, I told you that Jacory HArris was a pretender too)

I thought you were talking about the Raiders pick this year. But anyways, Quinn will not be an NFL QB, sorry kids. As much fun as it was to have him at ND, some people just don't translate into NFL Brass, ask Rick Mirer.
The only way Clausen stays is if he is hampered by this foot all year. He'll be near the top of everyones draft board come the end of the year.

As far as owners go, they are a funny lot. They sit and whine and complain about salaries, yet whos name is on the cheques?

Will he stay or will he go

Will he stay or will he go

Jimmy Clausen NFL bound or one more year for ND what do you all think will happen. Not what do you all want to happen because we would all want him to stay but what do we think the future holds

Jimmy Clausen will stay another year in a final attempt to win a national championship, prove himself in big games, and possibly win the Heisman Trophy.

Regardless, he would probably be the #1 QB prospect at the draft, simply because he would dominate the combine.

Jimmy is destined to be a Legend!!!! And, a HOF guy. Tebow and McCoy will get all american nods as seniors. Can't be HOF w/o an american nod. Jimmy wants the HOF -remeber the Hummer - where? Also, one more year of these stats and a National Championship next year and he's not just a legend - but a first name legend: Ara, Knute, Louu.... Jimmy!!

Ara, Knute, Lou, Jimmy. I like the sound of that...

Maybe Jimmy will return to Notre Dame in fifteen to twenty years to become our quarterback's coach?

NOT funny at all!!! Anderson throws (3) INT's and that was enough to show Mangina that he should start.

I actually laughed out loud when I read you comment. I particularly was impressed with 2 completions for 23 yards. It is apparent that the Browns O-line were angels in Kindergarten and never guilty of throwing blocks. Dan Marino with his quick release couldn't do much there.

Mr. Clausen will be back....BANK ON IT

He has unfinished business, and he is not going to skip out on CW early, guaran-f'in-teed.

Even if he comes back, and doesnt win the NC, in no way is that a FAIL. Its about seeing this thing thru to the end. Mr. Clausen understands that this budding program needs him to stay for his last year. I believe CW made a commitment to him, and he made a committment to CW. Some ppl still honor thier commitments, and Mr. Clausen is one of them.

Mr. Clausen was a monumental recruit, thee pivtol recruit of the Weis era so far. He is an integral part of the 'rebuilding' of this program. I think he knows this, no way he leaves.

If Weis is fired, all bets are off. Mr. Clausen will be gone, along with quite a few other players too (xfers, draft, leaving early, etc)....

Best comment I have seen. Not to mention the HT is his to lose next year...if he does not win it this year...and there is still a great chance for that to happen.

I, unfortunately, respectfully now beg to differ on Jimmy have ANY chance of winning the Heisman. This season plays out identical to 2005 for Brady Quinn. Jimmy's best case scenario is 3rd place and an invite to New York if we win out. Brady had good stats in losses to MSU and USC, but no signature victory. It's Tebow, McCoy, or Ingram.

Agreed that Jimmy will be the frontrunner (potentially a Jimmy v. Barkley showdown) in 2010, with not quite the same preseason ranking for the team, but top 10 (MAYBE top 5 with either a BCS win or impressive 2nd tier bowl win over a BCS conference).

I hope he stays, McShay has him at number 2 right now, behind Locker. He also has Bradford dropping to the 3rd or 4th QB on his board.

I wouldn't put too much stock into draft rankings, especially rankings by Todd McShay and/or Mel Kiper.

Although I do believe Jimmy Clausen is the best draft eligible quarterback prospect.

I agree 100%, I'd take Jimmy over any other QB in the country. Plus those same guys had Bradford as the possible number 1 pick last year and he stayed, I just hope he doesn't get over-critiqued like so many guys who come back.

Jimmy Clausen isn't even at full potential, yet.

I saw a question this summer about whether Jimmy would have as much improvement between his sophomore and junior years as Brady. Now, I haven't taken the time to assess the stats, but from where I sit, I can say without a doubt, he has made at least as big of an improvement if not bigger. Just from what I observe (nothing scientific here) he looks like he is night and day better from last year. Plus, he has been hampered by an injury. I can't imagine what he would be like on a good toe.

Next year he is the #1 guy, hands down. I think he comes back even with the possibility of a salary cap and a lockout. Jimmy is a warrior. I think he really wants to bring the glory back to ND and I think he truly wants to leave a legacy here. He is well on his way. This year is the foundation of a legend - next year will cement his place in ND lore if you ask me.

Just my opinion...

Speaking of summer, does anyone think that Jimmy should do the same thing he did this summer with inviting Golden Tate, Michael Floyd, and Kyle Rudolph to California, again?

How about meeting up with Dayne and teaching him how to throw the rock like Jimmy can?

There is too much on this team to want to leave, I think. You are gunna have one of the best offenses in the nation, a top ranked team, and the taste in your mouth of losing to UM and USC on the final plays. By Jimmys reactions in those games, you would think he does not want to leave like that.

Jimmys quote after the UW game. "I love this team."

Long story short if Jimmy leaves I cry.

I dont want Jimmy to leave either. With himback we can cause some serious damage, but Dayne is no slouch. If Jimmy does leave we wont see another 2007, i gaurantee that

I would love to see Jimmy stay, not only for his killer skills, but also as a mentor figure for Dayne Crist.

If Dayne can throw with half (more like 75%) of Clausen's consistency and accuracy, the Irish would remain damn good in 2011 and 2012.

Locker? Really? I dont know how the baseball contracts work but isn't he under some kinda of obligation to play for the Angels?

The draft board will shake up a ton after workouts, combine, etc. I would be surprised if Jimmy doesn't at least test the waters.

Yeah, but there's a bunch of baseball guys who give it up once they reach the NFL, a few years back Dennis Dixon spent a summer playing for the Braves minor league team. I agree though, the only thing Locker has on Jimmy is size and speed (which doesn't matter much IMO because Jimmy alludes the rush very well, Tom Brady isn't fast, but he maneuvers the pocket better than just about anyone).

I think he will stay. I really believe next year will see a very significant improvement in the defense. The offense is incredible and I think the closeness of the games this year is only due to the fact that the D hasn't come into it's own yet but it is starting to improve. I don't see a NC next year but I see ND becoming one of the top teams. Dayne is a capable QB and I see him carrying the legacy Jimmy started.

I have been impressed with Clausen, and not to be ridiculous in comparison but flying Tate, Floyd, & Rudolph out for chemistry and workouts is similar to P. Mannings chemistry with his receivers. As far as mobility, he is as mobile as the 3 best QBs in the NFL, Manning, Brady, Brees. He obviously has a long way to go before he can be considered in their class but he seems to be headed in the right direction. He is definetely in the right system to learn more. (I always wondered how Powlus would have done, if he had payed for Sporrier and a passing team, with more than one receiver.) Speaking of Manning, he too could have come out his Jr year and been a definite Top 3 pick but he wanted aother shot at the NC and get his degree. I would like to see us get on a QB role and be like we were in the 70's with Thiesman, Clements, Montana. all in 7 years.
