The punting has been less than good, but I am thinking it is not the punter. It could be as simple as moving his three immediate blockers up 2 yards. I absolutely hate that formation. Every punt I think he is going to kick them in the ass before the ball gets off. Punter must feel that way too. Does not allow for full extension of the leg. Stupid coaching.
Get the special teams right once and for all CW. Quit blaming the athletes.
The spread punt has been installed and wil lbe around for a long time in both pro and college football. The versitility of the formation allows for multiple "speedy" guys to line up and run downfield on coverage in addition to opening up an entire grab-bag of potentional fakes.
I believe you, but just out of curiosity, where does one find these depth charts released? I've been looking and can't find it.
I think this move needed to be made, but I feel bad for Maust. He's a good guy.
Neutered, it's the new rage in college football, and half the teams are using it. The reson being is that the rules are different in college than pro. In the pros, the guys can't leave until the ball is kicked. In college, they can leave before the ball is kicked, so for some reason (I forget why, but it makes sense), this formation that you hate (and believe me, I was right there with you) makes complete sense to over half the college teams. Polian studied it from various successful universities this summer. He's still on the fence with it himself, but he likes the results.
As for Maust, this formation wasn't there before and he still had a horrible year. This one's on him, not the coaches. Great guy, but his performance has dropped, and this is big boy athletics, so he got replaced. Part of the game...

Umm you're not gonna find a coach who is more loyal QUOTE]
Hi buddy. Not questioning that. It is a matter of one or two feet. Front wall.
Just an observation.

Honestly, I could have misinterpreted but you said "quit blaming the athletes" and i'm assuming you're referring to Weis when you say that. And how many times you seen a punter punt the ball into his own guy?
By changing punters you are blaming the athlete , and (I have no inside info, just quick observation) I quickly noticed this season that front wall is too close.
I have seen punters punt into a front wall ass many times. I have actually cringed watching punts this year before the punt thinking a new asshole would be born.
not doubting you, but if you could provide a video from youtube to verify and for some laughs then it would be appreciated
ok I actually did a quick search on U toob to find video but found nothing.
Kicking into the front block has happened often. Don't doubt me.
Move up 1 or 2 feet.
Maust would be fine if they didnt have 3 friggen guys standing 11 inches in front of him, I dont even know how he gets punts off, it looks like hes gonna kick the ball into the upbacks helmets. That formation is the stupidest thing Ive seen from college football this year.
Well, what I saw was the guys running into the 3 upbacks knocking them backwards about 2 yards and Maust coming forward about 2 yards and damn near meeting in the middle. Thus he adjusted a lot of the punts to go high and short versus deep and lower.

Dude, it is brand new to ND. I know it wasnt invented this year.
Could you stop with the "you must not have watched" garbage?
I watch every game, home ones from inside the stadium. Away ones from a 50 inch plasma. Im seeing everything.
My opinion is that Maust is getting artificial pressure from the formation and hes hitting high, low distant kicks. Thats what Ive observed. I dont think hes a great punter, I trust the coaches are playing the guy who deserves the job so Im not worried about it. Im just not gonna down the kid because he was good enough to start for Notre Dame so there must be an issue with something.
Agree. It was actually obvious to me from the first punt of the season. I'll type it again, and I'll type it slowly:
Move
the
guys
up
1
yard.

Move it up 1 yard
