What are your thoughts on the Wildcat? Like/Dislike?
And who would you want receiving the snap in it?

Not sure. I feel like its more of a play for Weis to gauge defensive schemes. I figure this only because of its frequency.

I can't seem to put my finger on why they would want to run it. Yes the irish have some fast players but that's not our style. I agree with ClausentoFloyd that the entire formation needs to be delted from the palybook.

I would love to see Goodman running it. Former QB with some speed and athleticism.

If you are going to run it, you have to at least show you are willing to throw it downfield once in a while. Or lateral to Jimmy and let him chuck it from the WR spot.

Heck, why not let Anello run it once?

I was only picking players because I think it is in the playbook to stay and the coaches don't ask me what to run. On the record, I hate it and would love to see it go.

I would love to see them do it with Dayne and Jimmy in at the same time.

Dayne takes the snap, throws a quick backwards pass to Jimmy and he throws it to Rudolph over the middle.

The purpose of running the wildcat is to gain an extra blocker. You, theoretically, gain an extra blocker by not having a QB hand the ball off. The thing is......it also tells the defense that you are running the ball. If you never show a pass, then I think that you lose the advantage of having an extra blocker. Especially with our offensive line. They have made a ton of improvement in blocking, but they are still far from being a great blocking line. I'm not a big fan of it, but I'm not a coach, either.

I like it. We used it once last year (against Navy) and there was a huge hole if only Tate had read the blocking. This year for the most part there have been some pretty big running lanes. Wouldn't mind Goodman flanked out though to take a reverse and pass.

Too risky. How about putting Dayne and Jimmy in side by side? Then, Dayne takes the snap, runs forward as if to run a draw, then tosses the flea flicker back to Clausen, who hits a wide open Floyd for six.

It would be a brilliant playcall.

maybe allen and clausen both back there (lined up so either could get the snap) with tate coming over still like he does in the wildcat. can still pass out of it with jimmy or run the wildcat

Agree with GO IRISH!!! Would be great to see what Goodman could do in that formation. By all accounts, he can throw the ball pretty well. He's fast. Seems to me it would be more successful if there was a threat of run or pass.

He was the long ball champion in summer practices. Apparently he can chuck it 85 yards with a crow hop.
