Looking for someone to blame for the loss? Armando Allen plain and simple. That taunting penalty lost it for the Irish just like when Bobby Brown did the hands above the helmet when Notre Dame scored late at Michigan back in 98 or 99 I believe and Michigan came back to win. Armando Allen lost this game for us.

AND WHY DID I HAVE OVER 4,000 POSTS YESTERDAY BUT TODAY I ONLY HAVE 3,971?????? This site is starting to SUCK!

The penalty was very costly, when are they going to learn? UM got away with a few too, but ND failed to put the game away.

I know I wanted to punch Tate when he was hotdogging it into the end zone. He of the 2 dropped passes at that point.

Let me see if I have this right, we have the golden boy quarterback and the greatest 5 year coach but we lose to a freshman quarterback and a 2 year coach and there are some who think that Charlie is still okay?????

1) Time and yardage control at the end was terrible period! Not one of the the other 118 college teams or even the 32 pro teams would have done what Charlie did at the end of the game!

2) Can not the golden boy read the REALLY BIG play clock at either end of the feild? How many times does this have to happen?

3) Charlie complaining to the refs about 1 second! Honestly Charlie, did you lose that game in one second?

4) Defense looked great! NOT!!! Charlie is still in the offense mode, we'll just score 30+ points. Problem with that Charlie is that if the other team scores more, you still lose!!

5) Charlie on golden boy. "I thought he played well". Charlie on the Michigan quarterback, "He managed the game well". A friggin' Freshman!!!!!

6) Charlie at half time, "we talked about holding in the locker room at half time". The very first plays in the second half #74 gets called for his second holding! Discipline of a team begins and ends with with the head coach! Let's us not forget the taunting call as well. Cost 15 yards and gave Michigan GREAT field position - oh that's right - TO WIN THE GAME!!!

7) The great and improved kicking game! Where? Which team?

8) I'd be willing to bet anyone that no matter who they brought in, they could coach better than Charlie!

9) Enough is enough! Charlie's time has come. FIRE CHARLIE NOW!!!

The part where he caught the ball, almost got tackled and held the ball in front of him as he strolled into the endzone.. Bush league. Especially losing at that point, and double extra since he had dropped 2 big passes at that point as well.

What Tate did was classless.

And you cannot blame Allen for the loss. He ran for 139 yards. Blame Charlie and the defense.

I tend to agree. But I have resigned myself to the fact that this is what kids do, today. As long as he stays out of trouble off of the field, maintains his standing as a good student, and it doesn't progress very far past what he did, I can live with it. I don't like it, but I can live with it.

So 25-42 for 336 and 3 td's is not enough for you? 12 td's and no int's in the last 3 games, not enough?

Another I hate Weis and I hate Clausen post. Way to bring someting to the table...

1) Time and yardage control at the end was terrible period! Not one of the the other 118 college teams or even the 32 pro teams would have done what Charlie did at the end of the game!

*** Absolutely wrong. Watch an NFL game before you say that. Time management is HORRIBLE in the NFL. Lots of teams would have passed given the situation. Allen just went out with an injury. Gray already fumbled. Theo is a freshmen, Hughes was cold and looked slower than slow on first down. Our best weapon is the passing game. Our defense wasn't going to stop them no matter what, sorry (didn't you say below that the defense was awful?) We NEEDED a first down. Tate got interfered with (again), and got no call (again), and Shaq simply didn't look for a perfectly thrown ball. He turns around and the game is over. Lots of people can disagree, but to say EVERY coach would have done the same is completely false. Hell, I was with three former D1 college football players and they we were all begging CW to pass after that 1st down (and 2 of the guys hate CW).

2) Can not the golden boy read the REALLY BIG play clock at either end of the field? How many times does this have to happen?

*** That killed me too. I'll also say it's a 2 way street. Were the plays not being called in on time?

3) Charlie complaining to the refs about 1 second! Honestly Charlie, did you lose that game in one second?

***Of course he was complaining!!! Are you kidding me? You want to NOT complain and just accept the loss? I was complaining, EVERYONE was complaining! If we had that second, we get a chance at a Hail Mary. Ask Kordell Stewart if he was happy he had time left on the clock vs Michigan. He didn't lose that game on b/c of that one second, but it sure didn't help not having it.

***Clausen did play well. Better than well. I mean, what exactly do you want dude? Johnny Unitas??? He definitely missed on some passes, BUT SO DOES EVERY QUARTERBACK!!! We were down 11 in the 4th, and he brought us all the way back and took the lead. Look at his numbers. They're great on their own. Now add 80 yards because of a BS holding penalty, and another 80-90 yards because of Golden Tate's 2 big drops that were PERFECTLY thrown. I swear, he's putting up video game numbers (zero picks again, 3 more TD passes, correcting all the mistakes we bitched about all summer, his last 3 games have been unreal), and you still complain, sarcastically calling him 'golden boy'??? It's not his fault the punter kicked the ball 25 friggin' yards, and the defense couldn't stop a JV team. He put the team in position to win. He did what he could. I swear, some people will NEVER be happy. You're the same guy who says Dam Marino sucked because he never won a SB. Give him a decent defense and he wins. He's the least ofour problems right now.

***#74 is Sam Young btw. It was a BS hold. Watch the replay. As for the taunting penalty, that was a diaper ref trying to decide the outcome of the game. They let it go all game, the crap talking and the late pushing and shoving (Floyd catches a pass, gets tackled, and the pussy who got beat hits him as he tries to get up, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REF), and they decide to call it then?!?!?!?! With the game in the balance? Really refs?

7) The great and improved kicking game! Where? Which team?

*** Agreed. Embarrassing.

8) I'd be willing to bet anyone that no matter who they brought in, they could coach better than Charlie!

***Even Ty Golfingham? No thanks.

9) Enough is enough! Charlie's time has come. FIRE CHARLIE NOW!!!

***Popular opinion. I disagree. Let the season play out. If we lose next week, then you're probably right, but it won't be until the end of the season.

Clausen certainly had NOTHING to be ashamed about. He would have had 500+ yards passing had those ticky tack calls not been made. Blame falls squarely on Charlie and poor time management and the defense, with all coaches related included.

I did have some doubts on some of those passes Clausen threw though, made me nervous.

If you told me that ND would run up 490 yards and score 34 points on Michigan I would have told you that we would have won by 20 points.

Jimmy is all he was hyped to be when he was a recruit.

He has 1052 yards passing, 12 TDs and no INTs in his past three games. He finally seems to be getting help from his OL after two nightmare years.

I was the first person to blame the OL last year (and rightfully so). But the defense that has consistently let this team down. Putting up 34 on an inexperienced team with a freshman QB (who, by the way deserves props for his performance) should have easily been enough to win. Our defense fails in critical moments just about every time. With all of the elite talent we have recruited on D, this should never, ever happen.

I Agree didn't the defense actually force them to punt after that call anyways. When you score 34 points you should win.

We might have SOME elite talent on D but not at all positions and certainly not on the D-line. They didn't look good last week despite a shutout which should now be viewed as rather lucky. Our O-line looked great in both running and passing formations but the d-line looks the weakest that I can remember (worse than our 3-8 season.

BTW there was a thread last week debating whether AA or Jones Gray were the better back. Debate over Allen, Riddick then whoever. In last weeks issue of Blue & Gold they had an article regarding ND's coupe to get Gray out of the state of Michigan. HE has some making up to do.

The blame for this game is on the players. They kept giving Michigan 2nd chances and they took advantage of every opportunity.

Clasuen is a elite qb now. Unlike last year i did not see any throw he make that made me nervous. He started the game sloppy but he got rolling and was not helped by holding panalties and drops. Still was making plays on 1st and 25. Clausen is the real deal now.

As far as the taunting penalty on Allen, I thought it was bullshit. I took more to mean they ran a trick play and it was more of a "hush" sign, but it shouldn't have been called. Much worse infractions out there that game.

Hard to pin this loss on one guy. I thought Allen played great and believe the only reason he was called for taunting was because the gesture he made was directed at the crowd. If he had been facing the field at the time I don't think it would have been a big deal.

When I read that post, I was just about to reply til I saw your reply. You hit the nail on the head. The only thing I don't really agree with is the kicking game. First kick ever in college... I'll give him a pass. I fully expect a can of whoop ass to be opened against Sparty.

That loss was a bitter one! That is one thing I think we can all agree on. We have the athletes, and we had the opportunities to win that game. The big reason for that loss was discipline, and we all know where the discipline SHOULD come from. A lot of fans I have talked to claim that it is early and that Weis deserves the chance to prove that the game against Michigan was more or less a fluke. Though it is early in the season, it is not early in Weis' tenure. The longer Weis stays around Notre Dame football will be harder and harder to dig out of the rut they have been in over the past several years. As a fan of ND, I like to think the team should compete for a national title every year, and that is something Weis will never be able to provide. I'm done blabbing, I place the blame on Weis.
