That recruiting a bunch of wide receivers and tight ends and recruiting a bunch of three-star defensive linemen will never lead to a good football team.

Is Chris Martin on campus yet? How about adding 30 pounds to a couple of those slow linebackers and moving them to the DL?

At the rate he is learning, we should contend for the NC in only 6-8 more years! The DL is just bad right now.

You win stopping the run and running the ball.
I wonder when Charlie will realize this?

The OL sucks, everyone is young. We suck. Then they are older, more experienced, the OL is better, but the DL sucks. When will it end!?

It's not like Weis gets to choose 5 star d-tackle or 5 star receiver.

This all boils down to guess what? Academic standards. Yep. We will ALWAYS be 9-3 8-4 or maybe just maybe 10-2 every single year because we cant just get more than 1 5 star recruit every year. Notice how Florida and Usc average 4 or 5 5 star recruits year in and year out? Thats the difference. Oh and we also have a coach who's in his 5th year of his internship.

Great point. Academic Standards is what will keep this program from ever becoming elite. Higher than most SAT scores and no JC transfers can't compete with kids who aren't in school to learn. SC, Florida, Texas etc. they are not schools they're the NFL's minor league. We want Ivy League standards to mesh with thug life athletics. It won't happen. We know this though and we still continue to watch the games and buy the gear and act surprised when they can NEVER win the big game. It's the reason why Urban Cryer didn't come here and the reason why when Charlie goes 8-4 and loses the Gator Bowl to Wake he'll be fired. Then ND will put their mission impossible goal of winning a NC with the Harvard football team out their and expect every top of the line coach to come running with resume's in hand.

I agree Academic Standards are the big issue...to those that played football in high school, who were the dumbest kids on the team? It was ALWAYS defensive line.

And we are learning...

And we are learning...

that Charlie is anything but a head coach of a college team. You can't have the talent that the Irish have and keep losing these kinds of games unless there is something lacking in the coaching department.

Academics standards didn't lose the game

While I use the academic standards and graudation rate issue with our SoCal USC
f%ckheads we still had plenty of talent to win that game not in the last 5 minutes but by
17-20 points. We can go down the list of issues:

- Lousy coaching (offense & Defense) where was the great Tenutu? Time management, poor discipline, not getting fired up at shit calls from the ref. How come CW doesn't get inthe refs faces? This sitting back cool, calm and collected doesn't cut in CFB.

- Special teams boner

- Defensive intensity

- Little things like AA giving himself another inch or two of room on the sideline (he did not need to tightrope it) although he played great.

- Alot of good playcalling but not of the final set of downs for our 2 FG attempts. I
didn't see any new wrinkles from last week. Are they saving something for USC?

- Our stud GT picks the wrong time to drop easy passes.

- As far as otdogging goes this is ND and not USC. CW needs to have a heart to heart
with some of these guys to remind them where we are.

At the end of the day I want to see ND win it all and that isn't going to happen with the second coming of Gerry Faust (CW). I will take Urban Meyer whenever he is ready to come back and save our asses. That's enough for now, yadda, yadda yadda.

Academics don't mean shit. Thats an excuse. Charlie has recruited great but has struggled on d-line. That is it. DefensiveTackle is a hard position to recruit. There are only a few elite players each year and even less of those are academically eligable for Notre Dame. That has changed the last few years but this guys are still freshman and sophmores. Everyone knew the d-line was gonna be a weakness this year and playing the spread burned us. The sky is not falling.
