Census Bureau Severs Ties With ACORN in 2010 Count

Census Bureau Severs Ties With ACORN in 2010 Count

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Census Bureau on Friday severed its ties with ACORN, a community organization that has been hit with Republican accusations of voter-registration fraud.
''We do not come to this decision lightly,'' Census director Robert Groves wrote in a letter to ACORN, which was obtained by The Associated Press.
In splitting with ACORN, Groves sought to tamp down GOP concerns and negative publicity that the partnership will taint the 2010 head count.
''It is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 census efforts,'' Groves wrote.
Stephen Buckner, a census spokesman, confirmed the letter, but declined additional comment.
ACORN spokesman Scott Levenson did not immediately return a request for comment.
In recent months, Republicans have become increasingly critical of the census' ties with ACORN, which stands for the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. The group, which advocates for poor people, conducted a massive voter registration effort last year and became a target of conservatives when some employees were accused of submitting false registration forms with names such as ''Mickey Mouse.''
ACORN has said only a handful of employees submitted false registration forms and did so in a bid to boost their pay.
Partly citing ACORN's role, Sens. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., and David Vitter, R-La., earlier this year blocked a full confirmation vote of Groves for several weeks. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., also has been calling for a census boycott because of her concerns about whether the group would tamper with the high-stakes population count.
Up to now, the Census Bureau had defended ACORN's involvement, explaining it was one of 80,000 unpaid volunteer groups that the bureau hoped would be able to raise local awareness. But in his letter, Groves said it no longer had confidence that ACORN was effectively managing the partnership.
ACORN fired two employees who were seen on hidden-camera video giving tax advice to a man posing as a pimp and a woman who pretended to be a prostitute. Fox News Channel broadcast excerpts from the video on Thursday. On the video, a man and woman visiting ACORN's Baltimore office asked about buying a house and how to account on tax forms for the woman's income. An ACORN employee advised the woman to list her occupation as ''performance artist.''
In a statement, ACORN Maryland board member Margaret Williams said the video was an attempt to smear ACORN, and that undercover teams attempted similar setups in at least three other ACORN offices. Williams said no tax returns were filed and no assistance was provided.

Barney Throws Acorn Under The Bus

Barney Throws Acorn Under The Bus

Ex-Friends of Acorn - WSJ.com

9/24

By JOHN FUND

...

Last night, the Internal Revenue Service severed its ties with Acorn, which had been an IRS partner in providing low-income workers with tax preparation assistance.
But the real body blow came when Rep. Barney Frank abruptly threw Acorn under the bus, telling Fox News: "I think they have forfeited their right to get [federal] funds."
...

Mr. Frank had no comment on the merits of the suit, but did offer this pithy summary: "People have said, 'Well, the sting [against Acorn] is terrible.' I will tell people there is a great defense against being stung. Don't do the kind of things that put you on television."

9/24 isn't two weeks ago.

WSJ.com is the Wall St Journal not Glenn Beck.

Yet here you are still talking about ACORN.

But I'm sure you're right, they are trying to destroy our nation and the very fabric on which our great experiment treads.

well done.

Right about what? I didn't make any statement.

You need to work on your reading skills

I haven't talked about ACORN. You have! That was your conclusion not mine.

I haven't posted anything by Glenn Beck, have I? Go ahead - QUOTE ME WHERE I HAVE!

I received a video link via email. I posted it on 9/12 the day I got the email. The video is dated two or three days earlier.

I found the video unbelieveable. I thought who in public assistance would have dialog on the tax considerations of prostitution. This has to be a joke. It can't be real. So I googled it and came across the AP story in THE NEW YORK TIMES about the Census Bureau severing their ties with Acorn and posted the article. Quote My Comments! There are none!

And on 9/25 I read new information in an article written by John Fund of The Wall Street Journal. Is John Fund an alias for Glenn Beck? Last I knew Barney Frank was a Democrat. Same party as the Louisiana Attorney General who's supoenaed Acorn records. Again Quote My Comments in that post! - Again there are none!

It's pretty f*cking pathetic that people can even quote Beck, Malkin, Coulter and the like. Makes one in favor of death panels - for stupidity. Put me on that panel. My mom and her friends (all in their 80's) swallow that pill called Believia. Take one - staple a bunch of tea bag strings with tea bags dangling from a hat brim (hat lined with tin foil) and join a crowd smaller than what shows up for a MAC football game (reported as millions) just don't repeat that crap in a crowd you respect unless you have guts enough to be later pointed out by laughers in passing traffic - LOL

Way to battle what you call "stupidity" with one of the most moronic paragraphs I've ever read. Just because someone disagrees with you it doesn't make them stupid. That goes for both sides.

hmmmmm.

Actual Title of Video:

YouTube - ACORN Baltimore Prostitution Investigation Part I<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I could have posted the actual title of the video, ACORN Baltimore Prostitution Investigation Part I<!-- google_ad_section_end --> but I didn't use that title as I didn't see a Prostitution Investigation on the video. What I did see and hear were people asking for and getting Small Business Tax Advice on running a Prostitution business.

From a five word title, a more appropriate title than You Tube's, you concluded:

But I'm sure you're right, they are trying to destroy our nation and the very fabric on which our great experiment treads.

That's your thought, your words, not mine.

I didn't make any allegation. I didn't comment.

Your transference attempt doesn't fly.
