re-vamping the topic of UofM game...

re-vamping the topic of UofM game...

What do people think M is gonna bring to the table? Forcier has been there since last semester. I've read some articles on mgoblog.com that suggest that he is defintely settling into the offense. I know this is information that we all know already, but what do people think is going to play out? At Michigans spring game Forcier threw for 4 touchdowns and ran for one himelf. The mgobloggers are praising this kid and I feel like the spring game against the second team doesn't mean squat.

I think they are grasping at straws. When you are trying to get out of the fog of a 3-9 season, any light means hope. While they will improve their record this year, its more to do with a weaker schedule than a team improvement. I predict they will go 6-6, and we will blow them out in style at the BigHouse. (Of which I will be in attendance.)

From what I've read this morning, it sounds like the OLine is going to be a solid as ever. They are returning all 5 starters. Our improved speed on defense should be able to handle their quick runs and slants though. I'm definetly expecting a big W. I also will be at that game.

I'm looking at this objectively, and I'm just not feeling Michigan this year. Even at the big house, we should dominate them. They lost a ton on defense, and w/ our O-Line and all our experience and strength and coaching (finally), we should be able to run to set up our gifted passing game. I'm not being myopic when I say that we should put up some serious points against them. And then Forcier, the kid is TINY and a true freshman. He may turn out to be great; I'm not saying he won't. But he's a toothpick, and we should literally break him in 2, if he runs the spread like a running QB. Every game with our current ND team scares me, but with this one...not so much. I just really think we're much better...

Just thought I'd stop in to reiterate how much I really HATE MICHIGAN! Ok I feel better now.

I am right there with you man! If i hear another Michigan fan refer to Weis as "the fat man" I am gonna be on the 5 oclock news. They have nothing else to talk about because ND out classes them at every level.

Early in the season, against a Freshman QB who looks like he was raised up in a Sudanese village, with a massive amount of returning starters... is this game even in question?

Until the Irish show that Syracuse is only a bad memory from the Dark Age, yes.

I believe ND has the talent to beat all their opponents. I also believe a half dozen of those opponents could do the same.

I will say this: I trust Vegas a helluva lot more than I trust myself, and they have us as only 3.5 point favorites over Bitchagain. Add 3 points that they always give the home team, and they in effect say we're a TD better than us. I honestly think we're 14-17 points better, and I'm not a myopic fan. I just think we're that much better. But the Vegas line intrigues me. I might have to get in some early action somehow, before we smoke (hopefully!!!) Nevada (- 17, ummm, that's a lot of friggin' points, I'd take Nevada if I ever bet against ND) and everyone sees that MI will still somewhat struggle.

It is very funny to hear my wife now refer to anyone from MI as "MEATCHICKEN"!!! Cracks me up and, I gotta say, turns me on a little.

I dunno... Vegas is looking at the numbers from Hawaii and a projected starting lineup. The Oline is going to be leaps and bounds better than last year and we are going to be able to run the ball. No WAY will Michigan be a three point dog by the time gameday rolls around. The line will adjust accordingly. But if you had a hundo and wanna burn it, now would be the time to capitalize on the odds.

I am SO glad sports betting is illegal in Indiana... I would be in such deep poop. Thank god I don't own money to a bookie named Porkchop who wants to go and break my knees.

I actually believe Michigan will be much improved this year. Notre Dame is a step above i believe in talent and Forcier will meet his first real test on the 2nd week of the season with Tenuta blitzing 95% of the time so i think we win convincingly.

I will consider this game a disappointment if ND doesn't win by 20 points. Michigan was bad last year, they will be just as bad this year. UMs defense was supposed to keep them in games last year and they were exposed. Most of those players are gone, so it should be a relatively easy game imo.

Sam McGuffie was the ONLY player we struggled with last season. If it hadn't been for him, we would've won by more than 18 points. McGuffie made all of their big plays. Without him, they are going to have some serious trouble with our defense.

The KEY to this game for both teams: Tate Forcier. Forcier is a freshman, playing in his first big game, against the biggest name opponent in college football, on national television, in front of 110,000 fans. The pressure on him will be immense. Did I mention he's a freshman? Tiny, with a weak arm (supposedly weaker than Jimmy Clausen's his freshman season) and under incredible pressure, Forcier is GOING to make mistakes. With Tenuta's blitz packages, Forcier will have seven or eight huge football players coming down on him on every play. Forcier is 6'0"...which means we'll probably have a couple of our usual batted down passes. Forcier is also going to force some throws, which is bad against most of our secondary and suicide against Robert Blanton.

This is how I see it:

- Cierre Wood, Golden Tate, or Armando Allen takes the opening kickoff for a touchdown. (7-0 Irish)
- On Michigan's first play from scrimmage, Tate Forcier throws an interception to Robert Blanton, who takes the pick to the house. (14-0 Irish)
- After a quick three-and-out for Michigan, Jimmy Clausen finds Golden Tate on a deep fade for a touchdown. (21-0 Irish)

21-0...with about ten minutes left in the first quarter.

On offense maybe but we struggled against their entire defense. A defense whose DC was fired after the season.

ND scored off turnovers on a short field, we barely moved the ball in the game. IRC, ND drove the field - once. The ND offense was anemic. Without the fumblitis, ND would have lost.

We moved the ball fine in the first half, when it was dry. There were a couple of big pass interference penalties that skewed our yardage numbers, plus we started so deep in their territory a couple of times that there wasn't a long way to go to score. In the second half, it was a monsoon. Obviously our passing game was our strength, and there was no way JC could throw in that downpour (for a SoCal boy, that was not rain, that was basically like living in water). We had to run, and well, we couldn't run against a h.s. team last year, so we were fu**ed. And Michigan ran it down our throats w/ McDuffie. I'd like to think things will be different this year (crossing fingers)...

McGuffee will always be, to me, a YouTube sensation. I hope he pulls it all together and TEARS it up at Rice.

Shockingly, Rice, to be closer to family, as they were having some sort of problems. Everyone had him pegged for TT or Texas A&M.

I think that his dad is very sick and he wanted to be closer if anything happened. I'm pretty sure it's cancer. I do hope everything works out for the kid though, he was a stud last year.

A lot of fans ridiculed his HS tapes with the leaps over defenders. They said he'd do nothing in college. I though he showed a lot against ND last year and am pleased he transferred but obviously not for the reason. That's one potent weapon RRod doesn't have back this year or the next two. I hope he has as spectular career at Rice and that his dad gets to see it.
