I have not seen very many of the Oscar contenders. However, I am getting really pumped for some of the movies that will be released in the next few months. I can't wait for Watchmen (although I might be setting myself up for disappointment on this one) and I am also really excited for Xmen Origins: Wolverine (yes, I guess I am a bit of a comic book geek).

What are your thoughts on the nominated films and other categories? What movies are coming out soon that you are most looking forward to?

I personally am fed up with the oscars... After James Woods defended Bush and stated that anyone who actually does his/her own research will find some of the problems we face are his doing while many are not, the Academy bascially announced Woods will never have a shot at winning another Oscar... coming from a bunch of people who preech understanding and tolerance they sure refuse to tolerate anyone else's opinon

and the ticket sales frud thing that the film co.s did to that anti Micheal Moore film was ridiculous as well

I think that the Dark Knight got fucked. Hardcore. In the bootyhole even.

I think Heath Ledger will definitely win the best supporting actor award. He was absolutely scary good. I have a theory that the third movie is already in the can and they are going to surprise everyone when he comes out on screen again. Maybe wishful thinking, but it would definitely be cool to see him in that role again.

I work in the film exhibition industry, which often feels like a hypocrisy. I LOVE my job, but can't stand many of the wacko liberals that must be successful to drive my livelihood.

The Best Picture Noms appear to be a depressing (and boring) lot of movies to me. Milk, Benjamin Button, Reader, Frost/Nixon, Slumdog. Hear Slumdog is a great watch, but it doesn't have talking dogs or singing teenagers in it, so it won't hit my watch list.

Upcoming titles I am fired up for include Wolverine, Star Trek (was a Star Wars geek, not a Trekkie, but I get to see it on my IMAX screen), Transformers 2. I'm sure there is more...a mindless entertainment kind of guy. Heavy on the mindless.

They gave orders to theaters showing the film to give tickets to OTHER movies while telling peeple "don't worry your ticket will be honored for the Moore film" so the overall numbers on that film would MUCH MUCH lower then they really were.... this coming from the same people who gave Moore an oscar for "Best Documentary"... a documentary btw is supposed to be a truthful and unbiased film on real events... not a propaganda piece

Um, the ticket scam thing sounds like a bs story. Specific parties involved?

I hear the same nonsense when a movie with an African-American actor comes out. When a box office cashier makes a mistake and gives the guess the wrong film, it's because it's racism and they are trying to suppress the wealth of African-American actors.

It's 16 year-old ticket sellers making a mistake and being too lazy to fix the error. TRUST ME. It's a pretty ridiculous concept. Do you know how many tickets you would have to 'fix' to suppress a gross like that? Potentially millions. A bit too elaborate in a business driven by minimum wage employees.

Just my 'inside' 2 cents.

One more thought on that...movie theatres pay the studios 'rent' to play their films. The summer blockbuster titles can charge higher rent, because theatres would lose big $ in concessions and attendance if they did not play Transformers, Harry Potter, etc. Indie films, documentaries, 'Urban' titles, traditionally carry a lower film rent, as lesser known movies offer better terms to acquire screen space at your local multiplex. It is bad business for theatres to suppress the gross on Farenheit 9-11 or the new Tyler Perry film, as theatres see better margins on these films.

After seeing Heath Ledger's family accepting his award, it def made me teary eyed. I've always respected him and the random roles he played. One of the few who didn't change who he was when he became a star....
