Lane Kiffin and Urban Meyer already have a fued going. I love it. Here's the link:

Kiffin accuses Meyer of recruiting violation / Overtime - Knoxville, TN - Local Sports, UT Vols Football, Basketball, Lady Vols Basketball, High School Sports, Ice Bears Hockey with Rick Russo, Mark Packer, Daryl Hobby and Wes Boling

A few thoughts:

1. Bush league for Meyer to be calling a recruit while he's on an official visit. I guess he did have a reason to be paranoid though, considering he lost 2 verbals to Tenn.

2. Bush league for Kiffin to blow the whistle the way he did. Just call the NCAA, don't tell a bunch of boosters or whatever at a friggin' banquet. There's ways to do these things.

3. Anyone thinking that Urban is squeaky clean can stop with that. He's just like the rest of them. He knows that recruiting is EVERYTHING, and he's looking for the same advantages as Nick Satan and Sneaky Pete and Lane Kiffin. He's in the SEC for Pete's sake.

4. Now can we stop calling CW a horrible closer while comparing him to Carroll and Meyer. Meyer lost a ton of verbals, esp after he won the NC, and Pete lost at least 3 huge recruits. And they are the best in the business (along with CW and Satan IMO), and they still brought in great classes. It happens. Kids change their minds and go other places. If you're gonna call CW a horible closer after he brought in 2 top 5 classes, then say the same about Liar and Sneaky Pete...

Nope, charlie is still a horrible closer in comparison to them two, actually just not good at all at closing. He starts on fire but dwindles in the end. Lets compare to Meyer and Petey boy to Charlie just for arguements sake....

Flordia, since Jan. 1st, has gotten 5 recruits to commit.......4 of them are in the top 3 in the nation at their positions, 2 actually being #1 in the nation(jenkins, Nixon). They lost 3 recruits. So lets say flordia is +2 in the month of January.

USC, since Jan.1st, has recieved an amazing 9 committments.......... 5 of those players are in the top 10 nationally at their positions. They also lost 3 committs, so lets say USC is +6 in the month of January.

ND, since January 1st, has recieved one committ...... a huge commit at that, but only one. We also lost 2 commits, so lets give us a -1 in the month of january.

Charlie does NOT close stong. Pete and Meyer do. Not to mention actual coaching comparisons. I will give it to charlie that he has at least started balancing Offense and Defense the last two years.

And as for the whole kiffen lie about Meyer, he has already been repremanded by the SEC for a false accusation of another coach. Link below.

I disagree. To me, closing is telling me whether you got a guy to go to your school or not. So if a guy verbals a year earlier and still comes to your school (Wood, Watt, Zeke, Calabrese, Fox, Floyd, etc., then guess what? That's a close. And the person who got him is a closer. Doesn't matter if you got him on NSD or a 2 months earlier, as long as you close. You can't call CW a bad closer when he got 3 top 10 classes in a row, including the TOP class in the nation last year after the worst season in the HISTORY of ND. That's a closer man.

He's lost guys in the past, and my point is that so does everybody, even the very top recruiters in the biz. This class was a filler class, kinda like what USC had just last year (or was it 2 years ago?) Quality over quantity. We didn't need to sign 22 guys because we just had 2 stellar classes and are looking at an all-timer next year. Our 3 special teamers that we signed brought our 'star rating' down, but if those guys were rated like other players, they'd all be 4-5 star recruits (look at our long snapper's stats---he's NEVER had a bad snap. EVER), and our class would be ranked much higher.

IA, I think it's probably semantics, but to me the guy can close. Not with the flourish of the others, but last year, even with the 2 losses, he had the top class in tha nation, because he CLOSED on all those recruits. The saying is ABC...ALWAYS Be Closing. It's not "Close on National Signing Day", it's make sure you're always closing. And he just closed on 3 guys for next year already, including 2 of the top recruits in the nation (one of which Poodle wanted BADLY). Peace...

dont get into a pissing contest with USC. Recruiting is about getting the right players, not the most players. and its not like ND got shorted, or that its devaststing that another team got more recruits. Weis is much more recruit-efficient. a recruiter-miser! hahaha...thats what he is; he knows how to make his recruitment dollar stretch. he may not get alot of them, but the ones he gets are the ones we need.

alright alright i can accept that, all good and valid points. i would always like quality and quantity, but i guess your right, quality over quantity always if you can only have one or the other. sounds good to me. next years class should be huge, no doubt. charlie is one of the top recruiters in the nation, but the two coaches in the nation who do not want a early signing period are petey and meyer....just different styles when it comes to recruiting i guess.

Good points NDinL.A., Also if you take into account the amount of top flight recruits in the states of the top recruiting programs Cali, Fla, Texas or Ohio, it is a little easier getting a recruit in his home state. Also I don't know the numbers but some of these coaches offer everyone so their % of closing is a lot worse than Charlie's.......not that it means a whole lot but I think Charlie is doing a great job and when he finally wins the big one things will be good!

After it turned out that Urban Meyer did NOT in fact commit a recruiting violation, it turns out that Kiffin DID commit TWO violations that Tennessee had to admit to the NCAA:

Vols' Kiffin commits minor recruiting violations - College football- nbcsports.msnbc.com

The best thing is that he says that he learned the fog machine antics from another university. Hmmmm, anyone care to guess what university that is? LOL. USC looks more and more dirty as these guys get jobs elsewhere. Sarkisian's doing the same things at UW. Diiiiirrrrrrrrrrrty USC...
