Nice!! So is it goin 2 be Mustain or Corp:

Hopefully it's true; Mort is saying it is, but his pops is telling Shelley Smith that he's still undecided. On local radio they are saying that his family doesn't want him to (they don't hurt for money and they love watching him play so close to home), but that Bradford staying makes he and Stafford the top 2 QB's available.

Here's how bad Mustain was this year early in the year: He was dropped to 4th (!!!) on the depth chart early in the year because he was that bad in practice. He's got a huge ego and tries to force everything, plus he had a helluva time learning the offense, so he was throwing INT after INT in practice, and Petey dropped his arse.

So Mitch had a meeting w/ Petey and Petey told him to stop throwing damn INT's in practice if he wanted to be the backup. Mitch listened and got better (but not by too much) and was elevated to 2nd team. The word around here has been that he's not nearly as good as he thinks he is, and it's a big dropoff if Sanchez leaves. Mitch won games at Arkansas (thank you Darren McFadden), but his numbers were bad and he even got replaced. If Sanchez leaves it's good news for us and the rest of the Pac-10...

Good choice assuming today he makes the announcement to leave. I have a feeling he was going to do the opposite of Bradford. Next year the qb class will be deeper. As much as I dispise him it was a smart move.

If true about Sanchez leaving, it certainly improves our odds of winning in the USC-ND battle.

Good bye DIRTY SANCHEZ... Pete atleast give him a hug. He was an ass to Dirty at the press conference.Let him go Poodle. The kid had a good year and will be a top 5 pick with Bradford coming back and not going Pro. Maybe he wil be better than Lienhart(bad spelling) who stayed all 4 years !

But according to inside source, Sanchez and Mays had a joint press conference scheduled announcing their intentions of staying! All kidding aside, it's good for us that he's gone. Hopefully the new QB, whether it is Mustain (better thrower) or Korp (sp??? better runner) will have trouble learning the offense and working with the new offensive coordinator.

Didn't see the press conference. How was Pete an ass?

Ummm no it doesnt. By the time we play them next year the new quarterback will be seasoned enough to beat us. Plus when was the last time we beat Usc. Come on. Improve our chances of winning. Have you not seen the same games I have? Sorry to tell it like it is. Stop taking me so serious already.

Ha yea Pete begged him to come back and told him he needed more seasoning even though he is a projected top 5 pick!!!!! Thats just some proof that he isn't comfortable with whoever is taking over at the helm...NDOM you gotta be joking right?

I'm just a little confused with the blow by at the end of Pete's press conference. It was Belichickish. He barely even glanced at Sanchez on the way out. Maybe he feels like Sanchez is screwing him even though he's projected to be a Top 5 pick. Matt Leinart stayed all for years and he sucks. Pete just needs to suck it up and deal with whatever qb(s) he has coming back next year. He'll still have a strong defense, so I don't understand the "we'll have a better chance" talk. Until ND actually wins that game, I go in assuming they'll get pummeled w/ a slight hope they'll keep it close.

USC quarterback Mark Sanchez will enter NFL draft - ESPN

This story is H-U-G-E down here in L.A. It's dominated the local sports talk, which makes sense considering USC is basically L.A.'s sports team, and USC's QB is a bonafide star of the city. Anyways, the story yesterday was wether Sanchez was making a mistake or not, and it was surprisingly split, considering he's been almost guaranteed a top 10 pick, and at the worst the 2nd QB taken, That's a lot of cash he'd be turning down, and he's been at school for 4 years, so it's not like he won't graduate or something. The goal of a college student is to get a job (i.e. go pro), and that's what Sanchex is doing with a guarantee of being a 1st round pick. I don't get the venom, personally.

But now there are 2 stories, and the 2nd one is Pete's act on the podium. I thought it was totally bushleague and petty, as do many. Some are so pissed at Sanchez that they back Petey, but I don't see how you could. This is Sanchez's moment in the sun, and his head coach, because he knows his back-ups aren't ready, acts like an ass at the presser. Such bullshit. Petey came on the radio this afternoon and defended his actions, saying he didn't agree with Sanchez going pro and he felt he needed to be heard. He had no regrets for acting like a petty punk, which is how he acted. And this is coming from a guy who has mad respect for what Sneaky Petey has done at USC. Pete put his own goals ahead of his player's goal, which I think should say something to future recruits (prob won't): Petey has his own goals in mind, not yours.

As for our chances being better, well, of course they're better. I'm not saying we're going to win or anything, but any time you take a player away of Sanchez's calibur at a position of such importance, of course your chances are better. You'd be a fool to think otherwise. If we had a snowball's chance in hell before (say, 1 in a thousand), now we have a snowball's chance in SoCal (say, one in 500). Either way you look at it, we do have a better chance of winning. Why do you think Petey was so pissed? Because he's gonna miss Mark's dreamy eyes and Jonas Brothers hair style??? No, it's because he knows his team just got worse and his job just got harder. Are we gonna win in SB vs. USC. Personally I highly, highly doubt it, but I'll wait until spring ball when I read about how both teams are doing, esp USC's QB race, and then I'll wait until both teams play next year to make a better judgment. Either way you slice it, our chances did improve...

Yeah, it's too bad Pete had to act like that in front of everybody. Be a hard ass in private, but once the decision is made, suck it up and be a man about it. Support the kid. He made the right decision....He graduates in May, isn't that the reason for going to college? At least he's not coming back to take ballroom dancing for his last term just so that he can continue partying.

Pete Carroll is correct.. how many successful quarterbacks out there left early without using up all their eligibility? I can only name 1 current one.

History is against Sanchez, and Carroll was just speaking his mind. It wasn't very punkish or mean if you look at the whole transcript.

However, if I were Sanchez the decision to leave seems like a good one considering the dearth of good qb's this draft.

Bad publicity for USC I love it!!! And who can blame Sanchez for leaving? I mean, he'll make MILLIONS in the NFL, where he only makes hundreds of thousands at USC.

a true business decision...

Pete Carroll is right, I agree with you and pete that QB's usually need all 4 years because it's such a damn difficult position (although Mark did stay 4 years and is going to graduate in May).

But Petey's demeanor AND words made him look petty and selfish, and he's getting hammered for it today, as he should. The transcript doesn't do his body language and his tone proper justice. He was disappointed/pissed. This is a crowning achievement for a kid (he's going to the pinnacle of his profession!!!), and as a head coach you support the hell out of him publicly while cursing him privately. Pete looked bushleague up there talking about how hard it is for QB's and how he talked all night with him about staying and etc etc.

I think it was agreat decision for 2 reasons:
1) As you said, the dearth of QB's, considering all the guys coming out next year (prob Bradford, Tebow, McCoy--not high with NFL scouts, Locker, and then the Jay Cutlers and Joe Flaccos of the world who seemingly come out of nowhere). This year it's he and Stafford, and that's it so far. That's damn good odds.

2) You say you have a source at USC, ask him about what my 'sources' (hell, I'm not a journalist, I don't have sources, I just know people who know people who rob people at USC) tell me: Sanchez is a bit of a skirt. In other words, he's brittle, and he doesn't have a high threshhold for pain. He's always dinged up, and he got hurt this year stepping over someone (didn't have any contact), and was out for what they thought was a long time. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Sanchez fan (followed him as far back as high school). I'm not saying this is true, I'm just saying that people I know around the program (far on the outside, but still, word gets around, and almost everything they tell me comes true) tell me this. So if you're Mark, and you're scared of getting injured and your knee is already beat up, then why risk another year of being injured and having your career threatened?

I agree. Maybe in 2010 ND can have a shot, but not next year. Maybe this will keep the game closer, but USC is still going to be crazy good.

But who knows, I'm a pessimist.

agreed. Carrol just looked like his true self up there, not considering the acheivements of his player and just acting selfish. Sanchez will make guaranted millions and not have to worry about getting injured his last college season, ruining his career. i think sanchez made a good choice, and he can go back and get his degree when he is done with the pros.

Hey... I just can't wait for him to be drafted, start rocking the Kyle Orton porn beard, and earn the moniker "Dirty Sanchez." I CANNOT FUCKING wait.

i agree that it will give ND a better chance. i have not seen or heard much of mustain, is he of any threat in any way....running, good arm, ballet dancer? it gives an even better chance for those teams in the good ol' PAC-10. they are probably licking their lips for the season to start. this may be a bit of a stretch, but i can see at least three, four....five losses? some of their most difficult games are on the road....you heard it here first four losses for FUSC next year....is one of them ND?...thats for another thread. anyway, mark "dirty, dirty" sanchez, great $$$ move.

I think most SEC QB's pretty much suck, and Mustain was an SEC QB. But then again I hate the SEC (damn good conference though). He's a thrower, not a runner, and he had a helluva time grasping USC's prostyle offense last year while he redshirted and even this year. Put it this way: He was the Gatorade Player of the Year, and people still don't know who's gonna be their QB next year. It's a wide-open race. He's overrated my friend...
