Who are you most excited to see this weekend in the US Army All American Bowl? Are there any recruits scheduled to commit this weekend that are looking at Notre Dame?

Jake Golic
Zeke Motta
Tyler Stockton
Shaquelle Evans
Chris Watt
Cierre Wood

I am excited to see Wood and Evans but I really want to see if Zeke Motta is the real deal!!

Does not look like we will have any announcements at this game!

Thats funny thats exactly who I'm wondering about Zeke Motta......I just love that name too, I hope it will eventually call to strike fear in the hearts of our opponents.

For me Stockton is the guy I want to watch closely. We need help on the D-line and I'm praying he's going to be the guy to do it.

Agree very much so. still pretty surprised we havent put other offers out there for some D-line recruits, plan B or C guys that might develope into something. 1 recruit a class isnt going to cut it, but i guess we did have 4 recruits last year. Hope next seasons class is another killer one for the D-line.

My thoughts exactly...I mean one D-line recruit??? 1? Thats not gonna cut it...I mean I think Stockton will be a beast but CW and Co are gonna have to move some guys around to DE or we'll be screwd...We need depth especially on the d-line so we can rotate them out and keep them all fresh...That is what all of the great teams do. We need a home run on the d-line next year..

This is how I see it and you can disagree all you want. Right now Notre Dame has PLENTY of talent on the offense. Now with that being said, I just dont understand why we arent going after at least 2 DL's, a Corner, A Safety, and at least another linebacker???? I think right now we have enough talent to do great things on offense. IT'S THE DEFENSE THAT WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!! Plain and simple. We need some hardcore RAW mother fuckers on the defensive side of the ball. Until we get some fucking defensive help we wont compete for shit. Just sayin

Agreed NDOM, we need those D forces that can change games and keep us in them..I think we did a relatively good job in doin that this season although our O refused to put teams away in the second half besides HAW...

Colin Cowherd (not a very popular guy around here, I know) had a very interesting take on the whole defensive player thing. His take is that defensive players are basically dumber than offensive players (he sites the Wondurlick Test), and therefore it makes it much more difficult for schools like ND and Stanford to have great defenses. The best defensive players aren't smart enough to get into ND. I'm paraphrasing big time, but it's an interesting theory. I'll tell you this; those freshmen that dominate defensively at Alabama could NEVER get into ND (and they kicked 5 freshman out of the school!). And we have gotten the offensive skill players, as we all saw at Hawaii.

But anyways, I agree, we NEED defensive studs. Can we get them???

Can we get them? Back in the Hotz era yes, Now? No! Back in the holtz era you had Zorich,Stonebreaker,Burris,Taylor, George "Boo" Williams etc etc.....Where are those big name guys now a days? Theyre at Usc. They said that Usc has 9 maybe 10 Nfl draft picks just on the defense ALONE! Thats sick. Until we get those kind of players we will continue to lose 2-4 games every year. Sorry, thats just the way it is.

Might as well root for somebody else then, or accept the losses, because we simply CAN'T get the guys on defense that USC gets (at least as far as sheer numbers go), because of our standards. Holtz got those guys when the standards were lower. Why do you think he left? It's like some secret or something that nobody talks about: They stopped letting Holtz bring in the iffy character/grades guys. Guys like Watters, Brooks, Rice, RANDY MOSS (people forget he was ND until admin revoked his scholly; his DREAM was to play ND). Holtz saw the writing on the wall.

But I think we can get some of those guys (Cushing was an ND verbal before we fired Ty). CW has proven to be a master recruiter, but he needs to do it more on the defensive side of the ball. AS NDOM said, defense carries teams to titles...

They picked up

Williams
Newman
Johnson
Lewis-Moore
Cwynar

All on the Dline last year. 4 of those guys redshirted this year. I have no problem in getting only 1 VERY highly recruited guy this year. Especially when we play a 3-4.

Now if we only get 1 guy next year. Then you might have depth issues going forward. But 6 guys over 2 years should be more than enough depth.IMHO

We have offered and would have admitted many of the top D-lineman, but many decided to sign elsewhere. Dont forget we were right in the hunt with Everson Griffin, and had verbals from two good D-lineman now at Flordia(Trattou and Hunter) Secondary plan B type guys would definately help, and many could even pan out to be great players. Kuntz and Ian were not the tops when it came to D-line recruits, but they turned out pretty well at ND. Admissions need to lighten the standards back to what they were in the early Holtz era, and that would help. But CW and company have shown they can get recruits early, but have shown the inability to close on many recruits. Last year was an exception, but i think it would work better to go with a 3-3-3-3 recruits per class style than a 1-5-1-5 class technique which we are getting right now.
