Ah the bright future...Makes me all warm inside...no wait that was that shot of Turkey...

Started keeping a 1/5th in my office to watch games...it really is hard to tell if that feeling in your gut is from the game or the Turkey when your 4-5 shots in...

But I digress...

I kinda agree with your post...I worry about the O-line. I've said it before..IMHO it is the one part of the team that puts the most pressure on the rest of the team...I have my doubts about any sort of sustained/consistent resurgence so long as we "Zone Block" aka "stand-up-wait-&-wiff Block", aka, "Look-out Block", etc.

Hoping to see something on the 24th that either changes my mind about the blocking scheme, or the scheme changes...we shall see.
5/5th for me to watch games. I have opined repeatedly (look at the number of my posts - most from game day threads), that it is the youth of the team and CW's offensive scheme that is the problem.

Currently watching ESPN talking about ND's bowl game losing streak while I dread going back to work in about an hour. Bowl streak win/loss is such an unnecessary stat. If you not playing for it all, then ".com" bowl is worthless fun, and who gives a shit if we win or lose.

I kinda like Kirk Herbstreit and Flutie. (I'm new to the Espn thing - never had cable before...) Hanna Storm - mmmmmmm (but a bit skinny...)

What happened to Kamara?

1. He came in overweight, while Tate improved his game like 80-fold.

2. He dropped a ton of passes early and his confidence went into the tank. He never recovered.

3. As another poster so eloquently put it...Floyd happened. Floyd took hold of the spot that Kamara dropped (pun intended) and never looked back.

4. To be honest, I saw Mo Stovall written all over him last year. He showed flashed of brilliance but he also had trouble making catches last year as well. You'd think he would improve as a soph, but he got worse. And while last year there was no one to push him out of the lineup, this year those mistakes cost him his job.

IMO, he's not ever getting his job back, unless Tate goes pro and/or all of the 3 wideouts (Goodman--the guy's a complete stud people, Walker and Shaq) that I think are better than him tank.

Now, if he gets after it like Tate did in the offseason and he comes back with a burning desire to succeed AND he improves his hands (and gets his mojo back), then all bets are off. He COULD become a huge asset for us again. But I don't see the same swagger, confidence and skill set that I see out of Floyd and Tate. Not even close.

Bottom line: He fucked up. He came in out of shape and Floyd took advantage, and that kid will NEVER look back. He's simply too damn good...

Good points NDinLa, but if his ankle was truly injured, that could affect a lot.

i'd like to see duval come into camp healthy and in shape and ready to compete. it'll be exciting hearing about walker, goodman, shaq and duval all competing for PT. as we all know, competition breeds success as evidenced by the mighty Trojans. duval had a tough year but we'll see what he's made of next season. hopefully he learned from his trials and will elevate his game b/c Tate and Floyd won't be slacking anytime soon.

Duval will be our go to guy in the Red Zone next year because of his height. I think he will come in next year better then he was his freshman year. With Floyd, Tate, Kamara, Walker, Goodman, and Shaq this will definitly be our most talented group. If we can just get our OL to do something it could be a special year!

You'd think he'd be our red-zone threat because of his height, but he can't catch the ball, so he definitely won't be our red-zone threat unless that changes. Another thing he doesn't do is attack the ball, the way Floyd and Tate do. Those guys are our red-zone threats. Michael Floyd has more than enough height and he makes plays on the ball better than any freshman I've seen play, and Tate simply has a hunger for the ball that let's you know that if you throw it up, either he's gonna get it or nobody is. With Duval, if it's not perfectly thrown, he let's it get picked (not intentionally of course, but he doesn't turn into a defensive back and knock the ball away), or it's incomplete.

I hate to sound like a sourpuss here, and he's a Domer so I root for him hard, but I just don't think he has that 'it' factor that I see from Tate and Floyd. And I say that because once he dropped a couple balls, and once Floyd took his spot, I didn't see any fire in him that showed that he wanted to compete to get his spot back. Instead, he regressed even further, dropped even more balls and saw the field even less. And when Floyd went down, where was Duval? Grimes caught more balls.

Duval was a stud in h.s., and he had a very good freshman year, so we know he has the talent, but he has to somehow get his mojo back if he wants to compete with all these studs ND has at his position. It starts right after the season, when he needs to get in shape and work on his hands. If he does that, then yes, he'll be able to be a red-zone threat, as well as a threat all over the field...

I love watching Golden go after fade's in the end zone, that kid has a ridiculous vertical.

I look forward to seeing Golden in the slot where matchups become an issue for defenses. You run 1 rb 3wr sets, put Kamara, Walker, Goodman, Evens, or Oliver at the x. Floyd at the Z, Tate in the Slot. you would have floyd with rudolph/ ragone on 1 side of the field, Tate in the slot with to the x side of the formation. Can you imagine trying to match tate up with a saftey? or if you run nickel and put a cb type with cover 2 on top of him floyd and rudolph / ragone would be almost impossible to stop. I think Golden in the slot gives us ways to motion him around and get him the ball in many more ways.

i like your thought process, but i don't think c'dub has a play book that's that expansive.

I personally was expecting zero from him

I personally was expecting zero from him

The only reason he set the freshman receiving record last year was because we were so weak at the position, the QBs had to throw to someone.

He was not ranked anywhere close to Michael Floyd. You're thinking of Benn, and maybe Walker.

He is nowhere near as athletic as Floyd. Robbie Paris and he have no clue how to get open. The only time they are ever open is when the defense focuses on Floyd, Golden or Grimes.

Hopefully we can hold onto our WR recruits, and the two freshmen who did not play this year. If we do, we'll be fine next season at the WR spot.
