I always hear that guys sometimes verbally commit early to be left alone. These kids get bombarded with recruiting calls from everyone on a daily basis. I can't blame a HS kid if he
takes steps to curb the infringement upon his time.

funny thing is charlie is so dead set against kids taking visits after they commit that he threatens to revoke their offer, then he gets Byron Moore to come visit after he's committed to USC. I think it's ridiculous that these kids get pressured so much. I do think their should be an earlier signing period to get secure commitments so you don't have this back and forth. Whatever happens though coaches will find loop holes. I assume we will get one defection and lose one or two by the time Feb 4 comes.

I did hear someone concoct an idea that Pete Carrol sent Byron and someone else, I can't remember the recruit, to talk Manti out of going to school at ND.....I have no idea if that goes on or not but it's a good idea, dirty, but a good idea.

i know after our beatdown at USC he had concerns and charlie apparently calmed the situation. walker leaving ucla kind of puts them in some short-term turmoil til they find a replacement. i would think after our bowl game performance and assurances from charlie we'll see marlon for sure now.

I really don't want to lose Pollard, but Charlie needs to stick to his guns and offer another CB or two if Pollard does indeed visit Westwood. "If they're looking, we're looking." We need him for depth (since McNeil only has 1 year left and we don't know if Darrin Walls will be back for a 5th year), but there are other DB's out there that aren't committed yet and it's not too late to throw out some offers and let Pollard know that he may lose his spot if he indeed goes on the visit.

I think he meant Walls will be back next year but nobody knows if he'll back the year after that. If he has a great year next year, the pros might be calling. And he might take that call. You never know.

I'll tell you what though. This kid is a SoCal boy, and he's flirting with a SoCal school. If he indeed does come to ND, and has to redshirt (not unlikely he will unless there are injuries), who's to say he won't be homesick and ask for a transfer? This kid is so shaky i wouldn't doubt it in the least.

But hopefully he'll come to ND, fall in love with it again and stick it out. We'll see...

I know these 2 positions tend to not have players with the grades and/or personality that fits ND but if we ever want to consistantly be a top 5 team we need to recruit these guys A LOT better!!!!! Sorry if I am not excited about a top WR and top RB coming to ND. We have them here now!!! We need top tier defensive guys period!

Great point about the DL. How many DL recruits do we have coming in? You can always flip a WR to a DB but finding mean and nasty DL are very hard to find.
