CW's offense has no misdirection, no counters, no reverses, no quick hits, no safety valves, no creative line pass blocking schemes, Oline has ZERO footwork. Puts the O at a disadvantage.

Exactly right. Everybody can see the next play ND is going to run. The other teams never seem to be faked out or confused by CW's offensive schemes. It seems that almost every time the FB is in he is a blocking back only. The QB handoff's are there for all to see. I sure hope we get some new and experienced coaching blood asap.

We need a new Offensive line coach, Defensive line coach, strength coach, and especially an Offensive co-ordinator, all of which should be proven commodities.

You confuse me. Just because an offense lines up in a tight double slot and runs option out of it (like Navy did this year - give or take) does not mean it's not an option offense. Maybe I don't watch enough Fla offense, but it seems to me the Fla offense is the same stuff WV runs, and high school teams have run since the early nineties. The formation is not the point, or whether or not the ball is run or passed. The point is that the QB decides - on the spot,( based on well practiced sight adjusting) on whether to keep, hand off, or pass, or just carry out the fakes and pass at certain receiver, who may also be running sight adjustment pattern. Of course predetermined play could be called as well.

Wing T when well done is a beautiful thing to watch. Watch replays of Grambling St. in their prime. Not an option offense though, but I was involved with an offense that ran option out of wing T look. Consider it a wishbone with the halfbacks in a wing position, or double wing, or double slot. Looked a lot like this year's Navy team. We did it 10 years ago.

I watched film of a high school team who won st. champ. running 4 plays: counter trey rt, counter trey lt, inside trap, and fade (with sight adjustment - if WR tightly covered, then QB tosses behind and outside so it resembles a comeback pattern. Etc... I could go on)

CWs offense has no misdirection, no counters, no reverses, no quick hits, no safety valves, no creative line pass blocking schemes, Oline has ZERO footwork. Puts the O at a disadvantage.

yahtzee! great post.

That's because you need an outstanding defense and special teams play to compliment, but it does not mean the option offense prevents a team from winning it all.

If the option worked as a primary method, the best teams would use it...and they don't.

The Spread is not the option, sorry to disappoint.

Texas is not option, nor is Oklahoma. Nebraska ditched it as well...in fact, they are probably the most publicized one to drop it.

The spread offense and the triple option offense both work well (IMO the triple option better than the spread) but you need to have coaches who know how to coach the offense and utilize the personel correctly. Johnson knows how to coach the triple option, and there are many different forms of the spread depending on where you go(OK, FL, TT) and the coaches at those schools know how to coach those offenses. Our problem isnt our offense, its the inability to properly utilize the offense we have.

Holy Crap! Are we talking about the old triple option out of the I-formation or the wing? The "spread option" out of the shotgun formation? (MEYER). The double option, the misdirection plays, veers bootlegs. May some of you be thinking of the run option with a QB deciding whether or not to pitch the ball?
