how could you be irrational to the point of saying you'd take a year off from watching ND? that's unfathomable to me. you shouldn't love ND for the wins they produce (or did at one time) so that you can go around bragging about how YOUR team is SOOOOOOOOOO good. you should watch bc you're actually interested in the sport and the program.

also, promoting rumors with literally no evidence other than a time table with no connections is ridiculous. on that line of logic you could connect a cause and effect for any two events occuring in a short span of time. come on midwestguy...

First off, this whole thing was a media creation. Are there alums mad?...sure. But alums also want people fired after going 9-3 and 10-2. Nebraska fired Frank Solich after a 9 win season and they are now on their 2nd coach and can't win again.

But Weis always knew he was coming back. He has his 3rd Top 10 recruiting class coming in and an entire team with game experience. ND knew it all along too. Because there was just word of mouth...no actual press release. Which is the way it should be because he is still under contract.

NBC now goes out of its way to show that they are not biased to ND due to the contract....so they get the ball rolling with the Weis "fired" stuff. Then ESPN can't decide, but still reports both that Weis' buyout is too big and not as big as originally thought.

This is tremendous day for ND Football...Charlie is the MAN!!!

I can't believe no one wants this job anymore.

Why would he? He took a bunch of two and three star recruits and did the impossible, slayed the beast, took down the monster known as....Syracuse. ND's five star prize recruits, who should have been able to win in spite of coaching or officiating or whatever you want to point at, didn't beat the 'Cuse.

There is no proof out there that the job was even offered to anyone else. I don't think that CW is the answer but you have to have a plan(someone lined up) before you cut him loose. 2009 will be the telling tale....with the experience returning and a relatively easy schedule, I would say 9 wins should be a easily attainable goal.

You are right, we dont know... until Brian Kelley comes out with his autobiography and claims ND offered him the dream job and he turned it down for his family...

Urban Meyer is the next coach at Notre Dame if Charlie doesn't get it done in '09. I would say 8-4 with a bowl win keeps Charlie's job, although anything less than 10-2 really is ridiculous next season. Tebow and Harvin are definitely gone after next year, the offensive cupboard is not that full in Gainesville...

Aside from USC, who will give us our usual five touchdown drubbing, what are the other three losses on the schedule that administration would deem acceptable?

At Pitt, BC is always tough, as is MSU. All winnable games, but as we saw this year, we dont usually win winnable games.

I think it's funny how stupid this thread really is. Midwestguy is just so uninformed and dumb, and is probably a terrorist anyway. It would be illegal for ND to talk to Brian Kelly. It would break the NCAA rule of "tampering," Kelly is still coaching at Cincy who's season is still going on, and will probably continue ina BCS bowl berth. Also, Charlie Weis is on fucking contract with us, he is our fucking coach. If we were looking for another coach we would have fired Charlie right after the USC game, probably on Monday. Even then, we would have to lay off current college football coaches until their seasons are over. Wow what a fucking worthless thread, jerkass!

I'd have to agree with you but I don't think I could have stated it so clearly...

They wouldn't have left Charlie dangling for 3 days unless they were shopping for head coaches. They shopped for filet mignon and were laughed at. So, they even looked at some nice lean ground beef in Cincinnati. But, nothing was available, so they decided to stay with ground chuck (I do note the irony).

It'll all come out. No doubt about it. My only hope is that the last week and a half had some humbling affect on the megalomanic that is our head coach. If that happens, maybe all is not lost.

I thought these words straight from the AD's mouth might prove that they weren't shopping....unless he's lying of course.

Asked if Weis had been presented with an offer to resign before he was retained, Swarbrick said, "Absolutely, unequivocally no."

Asked if potential replacements or their representatives had been contacted on Notre Dame's behalf, Swarbrick offered the same reply: "Absolutely, unequivocally no."
