if we dont win 9 games next year and be seriously competative in all of them then i dont see how anyone could say anything at all. i am in favor of keeping charlie for one more year and its obvious that we all have different ideas as to what we should do but lets just see how it plays out. im the constant optimist. we come out of this season with a bowl win then great we r making progress. we doubled our win total from last year and next year we should be in the bcs hunt. maybe not for the national game but definitly for a bcs bowl game. if we dont get 9 wins next year then the school will look again at who we could get and who is better than him. 2010 looks to be a big year for recruiting too. it seems as if we are hitting the lineman hard that year.

We had six wins but we should have won at least eight. We didn't beat a single decent team and along the way managed to lose to an eight loss team and we should have lost to San Diego State. On the flip side we should have beat Pitt and NC but that doesn't excuse losing to Syracuse.

We improved on paper; we didn't improve on the field. The offensive line is atrocious and unless or until that situation is addressed than we're screwed.

Welcome to 25 screens per game. on paper, this team should put up 40 pts per game but weis simply won't allow it.

"If im not competing for a national championship by my 5th year, i should be fired." -Weis quote. I am okay with weis staying, especially if we cant get meyer at this time. There were not any better options to put notre dame on track with recruiting and winning except for meyer. I think Charlie needs to go to a BCS bowl next season and WIN it, or thats all she wrote for the Weis era. Urban is still the answer if by next season charlie doesnt make the team respectable BCS material.

weis was coach of the year his first year went to a bcs bowl yeah the last two years were terrible but i saw improvment. all of our talent will be junior or sophmores and i can see us making the push next year to be back in the bcs talk. there is obvious work that needs to be done but i think we will fire some coaches and if the right ones are brought in to help the line and teach jimmy when and where to throw the ball we take the big step. im tired of hearing the poor ty treatment. really, look at what he did here and then at uw. hes a great guy and a hell of a role model for the kids but just hasnt performed on the field. neither has weis these past two years but the cabinets were empty and now charlie will have all of his guys and they will have had time to grow and mature into men. 09 will be the season we see if charlie is bringing us back or if it was a mistake to offer him the big contract. if the contract wasnt so huge he would probably be gone but there isnt anyone else out there who is "better' than him so im glad we are keeping him for the next year and lets all just see what he can do.

Move on support your coach and get over it! We will be much better next year just because of experience and Shaq. Defense looked a lot better this year and should be tough next year!

Good find!!! So he's our coach next year and that means we have to support him. We may not like what he's doing but we have to deal with it. Best of luck..Chuck.. go irish

why was ty cut loose so quickly yet weis is coming back for another season????

Because he was black...

Are you shitting me??? Hell no it's not cause he was black it's because he didn't win ball games AND HE DID'NT RECRUIT WORTH A SHIT.

Willingham recruiting per Rivals

2003 - 12
2004 - 32
2005 - 40

I'm putting 2005 on Willingham even though Weis was there for the very tail end of the recruiting process.

Weis recruiting per Rivals

2006 - 8
2007 - 8
2008 - 2 (arguably number 1 because of eligibility issues at Alabama for some of the incoming frosh)
2009 - currently ranked at number 10

Willingham after 3 years 21-15 .583%
Weis after 4 years minus any possible bowl game 28-21 .571%

Willingham BCS Bowls - 0
Weis BCS Bowls - 2

approximate money made for the university per BCS bowl appearance about 4.5 million

I honestly think that the problem is not Weis, its Jimmy. And i don't think its poor qb coaching either. Clausen is just not mentally tough, or the type of leader the team needs. He needs to grow some balls. If he had just a fraction of Quinn's composure and leadership this team could have done much better. Personally I think going to Crist next year would be much more beneficial than changing coaches again.

Clausen sucked quite a few times this year, but I have a hard time blaming him too much, since they can't seem to develop a consistent ground game. Or a solid pocket even.

Clausen should be better next year. Should be. If the O-line can get a running game going, and Crist shows he can handle the backup spot, that will push Jimmy. Coaches are needed I think if the head coach is going to stay. Experienced coaches. 10 wins or bust, or we throw all our money at Urban. Not sure how I feel about that.

You're absolutely right!!! I blame Jimmy too! Next year, when Crist plays, we'll be way better!!! You know why? Because I read somewhere that Crist can play quarterback, running back, center, right tackle, left tackle, right guard, left guard, and yes, even tight end (on running plays only though, not passing plays. I mean, c'mon, the man ain't God)!!! And I even heard that if Walker falters, he can kick FG's for us too!!! CW and Latina don't deserve ANY of the blame! Thank you for clarifying that for us!

Look bro, Jimmy deserves some of the blame, but to blame him for most of our ills is, well, I won't say because I'm trying to be nicer. Ahh screw it, THAT"S STUPID!!! How about:

1. Poor coaching.
2. Poor RB play. ( Will someone please make a guy miss???)
3. Horrible, horrible line play.
4. Poor coaching from the assistants (ahem, Latina)
5. Horrible play-calling (Haywood AND Weis).
6. JC's regression.
7. Floyd being hurt.
Etc. etc.

this is truly sad and disheartening news.

We can tell. With three posts in a row.
Why is CW back? Because unlike 'I never saw a golf course I didn't like' Willingham...CW is a kickass recruiter, especially when you factor in ND's record during that time.

The football program is not going to take a step forward if players transfer and we lose our best recruits from '09. One more year, especially after the last 14, isn't exactly going to matter if (big if) CW can turn things around and provide not only good leadership, but stability to a program that needs that as much as a good line (well almost).

you may be right....... maybe dayne crist will have a great spring and be the number 1 signal caller come the fall of 09....... i am willing to give him all the support in the world. he has been on the bench taking everything in this year..... hell, i am just looking for a spark to ignite this team!

that sounds great and all but something tells me weis will ride jimmy til he simply can't go. i hope i'm wrong and dayne gets a fair opportunity to compete b/c competition breeds success, i.e. USC football teams. petey has a nice system out there and gets his boys to rise up at every position.

Yeah with his job on the line Weis is going to go with a redshirt-freshman at QB. Dream on! He will ride JC the whole year unless he gets hurt! JC cannot be blamed for all of our issues. We have no run game and until we get one the defenses know what we are going to do every play!

I must give credit to Jimmy for taking his lumps and bumps like a man...... He was humbled and took it in stride...... He never quit....... he made bad decisions but never quit.

He was the cat's meow in high school and got one rude awakening @ ND and never really pissed and moaned about not winning and getting sacked and beaten up over and over.

I certainly hope that Dayne will get just as many snaps in the spring as Jimmy will.

IMHO if Dayne doesn't get plenty of reps preseason..... I think we are in trouble.

Another horrible post by a horrible poster. The red dots are there for a reason guys. He comes once in a while, says some insane shit, ans then leaves 'cause he can't defend himself.

Crist will get his reps (as any backup should), but not at the expense of Jimmy getting his. Colleges have a set limit on how much they can practice. Time is precious. Reps are precious. You want the backups to be prepared, but the starters need the majority of reps. There should be a competition for every spot, but JC, knowing the offense and having 2 yrs experience, will surely beat out Crist. It's stupid to say that Crist needs plenty of reps or we'll be in trouble. As everyone else said, "WHY?"

(You won't get a sane answer any time soon...)
