I'm going to flip out if I come across another Urban Meyer thread on a ND site, theres an average of 3 on the 1st page of every site.

So here's a list of 6 candidates who could realistically be Charlie's replacement at Notre Dame

Brian Kelly
Overview:He's more of the flavor of the week in terms of coaching but hes ready to get out of Cincinatti before a poor season next year keeps him there for awhile.Kelly won 120 games and 2 National Championships at Grand Valley State and has a solid recruiting base in the midwest.Kelly plans to interview for the Washington HC job next week.

Skip Holtz
Overview:He is Lou Holtz's son and he is a former Notre Dame grad and assistant during the early 90's before becoming HC at Uconn.Skip has had success at East Carolina but he hasn't proved enough long term to be a legit must-have coach in college football.Notre Dame may or may not be interested but certainly his name will be mentioned.

Philip Fulmer
Overview:If anyone knows of UT football you know that Fulmer is a proven winner but after a few lukewarm seasons they had to make a change giving him $6 Million in the process.Fulmer hasn't retired from coaching and does have interest in coaching soon if not next season.A way to replace Weis would be to replace him with a coach who shows more class and is more proven than Weis at the college football level.

Chris Peterson
Overview:peterson is currently the HC at Boise State and has led them to 2 undefeated regular seasons in the past 3 seasons but reports out of Boise are that he and his family are settled in at Boise and he's not looking to leave. If Notre Dame showed interest he would certainly show interest back but the track record of former Boise State coaches hasn't been impressive with Dan Hawkins as a clear example.

Les Miles
Overview:4 months ago it would be a shock to see Les Miles on this list and after he turned down the Michigan job it would seem as if Miles would be in Baton Rouge for the long haul.Well times have changed and his seat has been warm for the past few years at LSU espescially with the handling of Ryan Perrilloux and his frequency to lose an easy win but cooled after the NC victory. At 7-5 his seat is hot as ever and he might be looking to bolt.

Brian Polian
Overview:Has been Notre Dame's key recruiter and special teams coach for the past few seasons but at 33 does he have enough experience to take over as HC at such a young age?Polian might just be our version of Lane Kiffin without the NFL HC job,but Polian would be a major risk.

I think Miles is mediocre. He is certainly a roll the dice kind of guy. The Saban talent has finally either graduated or been jailed.

1.) Dont want him, he is just the flavor of the week
2.) Mediocre coach at ECU, no way qualified to coach ND
3.) You are on crack
4.) Best of the bunch
5.) You are on crack part 2
6.) You are on crack part 3

Les Miles is not going anywhere, I doubt Fulmer is going to coach anywhere next year, and Polian is in no way ready to be head coach at ND.

And I am sorry after your 20 some posts on here you are ready to flip out

He has also stated in the past that he HATES Notre Dame in memory serves from the Sugar Bowl two years back

Why does everyone hate on Phillip Fulmer? Seriously. The man was an icon at Tennessee, been the veteran of many wars in the $EC (best conference in CFB), has won $EC crowns, recruits, is a good guy and has a NC ring! That's way more on their resume than ANY of those other guys on the list! Are you kidding me? I'm not saying he's the best guy for the job, but compared to those other "maybes and could be's" he's easily the most qualified and experienced. Not to mention, he's a huge name in CFB. If anyone doesn't think ND should at least speak to the man, they're on crack.

It looks like Weis has told both Chris Watt and Shaq Evans that he isnt going anywhere. I doubt he would do that if he wasnt assured of keeping his job, but maybe I am naive in thinking that.

I saw that as well on rivals. Charlie Weis will be back in 09!

Charlie is a pretty cocksure guy. He's probably overestimating his job security based on his overestimation of his coaching acumen.

I'm not saying that he's going to be fired. I'm just saying that his job status seems, at the least, to be uncertain.

I disagree, he may be cocky, but he also loves ND. If he says he will be back in 09 and then gets fired there is no chance we keep those recruits. I think you are using your hatred of Weis to rationalize that statement.

He better get his act together if he is around another year. No more of this "young team", "take the foot off the gas in the fourth quarter" BS anymore. I've backed Weis from the get go and even recently but if he doesn't put the nail in the coffins next year, something's gotta change. Lets bring in a sweet recruiting class now and look forward to those froshies next season.

Charlie Weis has admitted that he has a huge ego. Loving ND doesn't have anything to do with this. Lou Holtz loved ND, too. I love ND, do you think that I could coach the team?

Charlie Weis talked about the "decided schematic advantage" himself. Where was that on Saturday or last Saturday or the Saturday before? The most telling sign of his arrogance is that he was willing to make the likes of Mark May and Jeff Carroll's jobs very easy by supplying the bullets to fire back at him. Those guys don't even have to be creative....they just turn all of Charlie's own haughty words back onto him. And to tell you the truth, though I despise both of the afore mentioned "journalists", they make valid points. If Charlie could have shown some humility, he would not be in this circumstance. He created his own expectations, hasn't lived up to them and now he needs to live with those consequences.

I have never once said that I hate Charlie Weis. I have been a voice of reason on this board and I have called repeatedly for people to forget talking about a new coach until Charlie Weis is, in fact, the FORMER coach.

PA, I also just saw an interview with the sports editor of Notre Dame's student newspaper. He said that during the 1812 Overture the booing is unreal. ND isn't that big of a school and most of the students probably interact with the players on some level. Actually, I know that my friends that went to ND interacted with the football players constantly. If the students are willing to start condemning Weis than they're probably hearing something from the football players. If he doesn't have the confidence of his players than he is in some real trouble.

I was never commenting on whether or not he is the right man for the job. You are taking this way out of context. I am just saying I dont think he is going to make a special trip to see a recruit to tell him he will be back next year if he has not been assured by the university. If he hasnt, and he does get fired, then there is no chance we hang on to that recruit.

You took my comments way out of context by assuming that I, your words not mine, "hate" Charlie Weis.

As for your comments....I took them for exactly what they were and simply responded that CW's arrogance could lead him to believe many things that aren't certain or true. He's not making any trips to tell recruits that he'll back; he's making these trips to reaffirm their commitments in the wake of the USC beat down and because it's now poaching season. The verbal commitments of the recruits amount to nothing more than casual words spoken and now is the time to ensure that they aren't going anywhere. He's simply cementing relationships.

I'm glad that CW's on the recruiting trail because it's where he should be. I'm sure that he doesn't want to sit at home and chew his nails for the next week. Plus, should he be retained, it would be a week lost on the job.
