Lou Holtz was silent today at ESPN

Anyone else see Holtz today on ESPN? He would not even talk about ND football. I think he has been approached to become the next ND football coach for the next 3 years to right the ship. Then hopefully Urban Meyer will take over. You heard it here first.

Lou was a great coach in his prime, but he's past his best-before date. I believe he's 71, and it seems like he's starting to become more and more senile. Lou is not the answer.

If ND is going to make a coaching change at the end of this season, they need to get Urban Meyer. Urban has proven himself a winner at Bowling Green, Utah, and Florida. When he won the NC with Florida, they had the toughest schedule that year. When Urban was with Utah, he took them to a BCS game, which was the first time a non BCS team was invited to one. If you watch the highlights of that game against Pitt, you see how fast, explosive, and determined all of the Utah players were on both sides of the ball. Utah probably could have played someone tougher than Pitt, and still have dominated.

Urban and his staff know how to evaluate and develop talent. His staff consists of several coaches who, like Urban, have ties to ND.
They are Charlie Strong, Dan Mullen, Mickey Marotti, and Steve Addazio.

I don't understand all this Meyer stuff. And I don't want to say why. I should not have to explain.

If Holtz were approached about the job we are in horrible, horrible troule...

And if Meyer gets the job, it's even worse.

Urban Meyer is the best choice at this point in time. If ND can not get him to replace Weis after this season, then they should keep Weis for another year. There's a lot of other coaches who would probably be a step up from Weis, but none that jump out , as being able to take ND to an elite level. ND really can't afford to make a change, just to end up with someone who is a slight step up from Weis.

ND isn't going to get Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Mike Shanahan, Jon Gruden, Mack Brown, Jim Tressel, or Nick Saban.

Mike Leach has done great things with Texas Tech but I don't see him as being a good fit for ND.

Chris Petersen has done a good job keeping the Boise St ship, that Hawkins built, a float. But considering the lack of success Hawkins has had at Colorado, I see Petersen as being too much of a risk, especially when he lost to Tyrone Willingham.

Brian Kelly had a lot of success at the Div 2 level, and he's making Cinci respectable, but he has yet to do anything remarkable with them. Cinci is not putting up any gaudy offensive or defensive stats against the weak schedule they play.As a result hardly any kids in America have heard of him. So Kelly would be too much of a risk at this point.

'I don't understand all this Meyer stuff. And I don't want to say why. I should not have to explain."

"And if Meyer gets the job, it's even worse."

Are you guys still bitter from the first time around ? Did it remind you of a girl rejecting you from your past ?

Are you guys still upset from Urban poaching some ND recruits?

Yeah, you wouldn't understand all this Meyer stuff, because all Meyer has done is win. He's won at the highest level, in the toughest conference. His teams are fundamentally sound on offense, defense, and special teams. His teams have averaged over 200 yards passing and 200 yards rushing a game. He turned Alex Smith in to the first overall pick in the NFL draft. He helped Tim Tebow win the Heisman as a sophmore.

Do you guys work for the ND administration ?

If you don't, don't worry. ND's admin will mess up the next coaching change, and the team will end up with the next Davie, Willingham, or Weis. The utter futility and mediocrity that is ND football will continue.

Thats what I'm afraid of. Charlie Weis was like our 6th choice. Notre Dame = Mediocre football and the administration will see to it that the trend continues by either keeping Weis or giving some pee wee league football coach a massive contract extension just cuz he came close to beating Usc. ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaa. Thats what the last nail in the coffin for Notre Dame football when we gave that money to Weis. WHAT A JOKE.

Brian Kelly has been wildly successful everywhere he has been. The teams he has coached finally beat teams that they had NEVER beaten. UC beat three teams they historically struggle against this year...Louisville, West Virginia, and Pitt (never beat them before). So while they may not be playing Oklahoma (oh yeah, they did play them), they
ve only lost two games while playing 5 qb's this year.

He won the Big East...which UC was picked fifth. How's that for getting the most out of your talent? Going to a BCS bowl. His players love and fear him, which I like...and elevated their game after a tough loss to UConn in which they lost yet another qb.
Oh yeah, and his team is now respected for doing well in the classroom.
IMO...if we can't get Stoops, Richt, or even Meyer.....Kelly is perfect.

Agreed. I have seen Kelly coach in person about 20 times and all 20 times he won by blowout and all 20 times he didnt let up one bit until the game was over. I will take him as our coach ANY day.

Urban Meyer is not an ND man. He does not care about academics. He soft-plays discipline issues. His family would hate South Bend.

He is also very happily ensconsed in an easy job...he would not and SHOULD NOT come to ND.

I would welcome Urban strictly due to the fact that his hot 18yr old daughter would be in town.

So I guess I do have to explain.
The reason I don't understand all the Meyer stuff has nothing to do with how good a coach is he, it's about the debacle three years ago in firing Willingham and then Meyer went to Florida. A lot of Notre Dame fans can remember.
Since I posted, there was a very interesting post on another thread explaining why Meyer chose Florida over ND. According to that post, it was about his family wanting to go to Florida and the ability to recruit in state and be home more often. So good for him.
The post said Meyer would like to have the ND job. So good for him.
