Charlie will be fired. The administration will give him another year if we aren't embarrassed. If we are, he won't be coaching the bowl game.

Friend is highly placed.

If he is fired....

How many players decommit?

How many players transfer?

This rumor is bogus because ND knows that we need this recruiting class and next year will be turned around.

All of you asking for his head on a plate are ridiculous. You act like the next guy that comes in will be sooo successful.....

What top notch coach wants to come here especially since we like to fire people right away and not give anyone time to build a program..

I do agree somewhat dude. but........NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND. I think 4 years is plenty of time to get a program turned around. He's just not getting it done here.

Coaches are fired all the time, despite recruiting classes that are lined up. I'm sure Alabama, Tennessee, & Florida all had great recruting classes lined up before they fired their coaches.

And again, recruiting class rankings mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING if they don't translate into wins on the field.

It's from the Allstate commercial that runs almost non-stop these days during college football. The two guys who cannot seem to catch a break are trying to sneak into the stadium to watch "State" play, except one's still got his beard and they both look terrible as women. The guy from "The Unit" is the spokesperson.

My friend that is highly placed at the Chicago Tribune said the same thing. This freind reads the ribune daily so he definitely knows that he's talking about.

J/k - It makes sense, esp since the reports today are that CW's buyout is wayyyyyy lower than expected and previously reported (which is what SoCal was arguing yesterday). Can't argue either way anymore. I'm a CW backer, but his performances leave me any ammunition to stay with him. He's a stnd-up guy though; he knows he's underperformed and he knows what's at stake this week. Might not matter though. SC's defense is made for embarrassing teams...

The only thing Im afraid of is starting all over!

At least now we have the players and I think they will do well they are just young!

With a new coach how many of them leave?

Remember when Charlie came in how many players left....

Look at this quote from the Tribune. It speaks volumes:

'The current class of juniors, a group rated No. 8 nationally by Rivals.com when it signed in February 2006, boasts zero true impact players. Firing Weis would mean his superiors decided that either the staff miscalculated the talent or can't do enough to nurture it.'

True but how many of those player are still around?

Carufel
Prince
Rueland
Jackson
Jones
Fraser
Webb

A lot of players left that class!

Define a true impact player.

Many of the players in the 2006 class left because of injury, passed on the depth chart, or got in trouble(yeatman).

yes it has been a huge dissapointment but that stuff happens and people need to realize how young this team is.

They are really talented but how many teams win with a freshman TE, WR, and a young QB and RB's?

I think the number of recruits that would transfer or de-commit based on a Charlie Weis firing depends on who the new coach would be. If it's an exciting, well known coach that the players can be equally (or more) excited about playing for, than I doubt most of them would go anywhere. But to me, even if it costs recruits, the move to fire Weis is justified. What's one more year going to do? If we give him another season it will simply be one more season wasted.

We've already seen him be out coached by the best and worst in college football. We've seen him make foolish promises that there is no reasonable way to keep. We've seen transfers and defections, blowout losses, bowl losses, the expectation of always losing to USC each year...I mean, seriously, do we need to see anything more to make a rational decision? I agree...four years is plenty of time to turn a program around with proper and smart coaching and recruiting. The recruiting is there in rankings, but so far that highly touted talent is failing to produce on the field just like the coaching. That is a lack of leadership, preparedness, coaching and fundamentals...all of which lay at the feet of Weis ultimately. I think it's pretty safe to assume that if someone like Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Les Miles or even Urban Meyer had our talent currently we'd be better than 6-5. Since I believe Notre Dame is the greatest team in college football, I believe they deserve the greatest coach and that simply isn't Weis.

Will it be easy to attract a big name person? Hell no. It hasn't been for a while now. But, that doesn't mean you give up trying and settle for something less than you deserve. While the college football landscape has changed and the Notre Dame head coaching job is no longer the crown jewel it once was, there has still got to be those out there that would like a chance to bring it back. Those with the qualifications, resume and ability to do what Davie, Willingham and Weis could not. Why not get started on that as soon as possible instead of sitting around for another year asking "What's going on?"

Do you dispute the quote? Because I don't.

first, you need to do a better job of making arguments if you want us to respond with more detail. your prior post (above) simply said "it speaks volumes." your statement is absolutely weightless and meaningless. there is no point, no argument, nothing to respond to.

since there is nothing to respond to, my pointing out that the Tribune isn't known for objectivity was more a general observation than a critique of what you wrote or what they wrote.

In order to determine whether the Tribune comment has any validity, I would have to know the context. so next time you want a serious response (and aren't just posting it to cause further strife), post the a link to the whole article so that we can determine the context of the statement so we can determine the veracity of the quotation.

But to try and respond to the article about the 2006 players, the comment about "zero" impact players is not an objective assesment; it is completely subjective. I believe there are 2006 recruits making an impact on the team. Of the 2006 recruits remaining on the team, the ones in bold are those that I believe are making an impact on this team:
James Aldridge RB
Sam Young OL
Raeshon McNeil DB
Eric Olsen OL
Chris Stewart OL
Daniel Wenger OL

Morrice Richardson LB
John Ryan DE
Luke Schmidt RB
Toryan Smith LB
Kallen Wade DE
Sergio Brown DB
Jashaad Gaines DB
Leonard Gordon DB
Paddy Mullen DE
Robby Parris WR
George West ATH
Barry Gallup WR
Ryan Burkhart K

(That's not to say those not in bold are unimportant to the team. Depth is terribly important, and many of the players not in bold are providing an impact in a different way.)

My definition of "impact" is probably alot different than those who simply want to cry and moan because everything is wrong with ND football. They are the kind of people who because they feel CW should be fired, they just can't stop themselves from constantly berating the program until that happens.

Well, I'm done trying to engage those people.

For some reason I have a hard time believing the administration has put a "line" on the game. So if we lost by 24 he will be back, but 28 he will be fired? That just doesnt sound right to me.

What if they miss the extra point, and we lose by 27? Will that save Charlie? Is a TD really a TD if they don't get the extra point? Hmmmm...

This in all sounds stupid. 4 tds? Not that it can't happen but somebody put a line on a coach's job?

I heard it on ESPN Radio about this as well. Cowherd spoke about this on his program. Man, for an irrelevant program ND sure gets a lot pub.
