But seriously, you said you were done trolling here. I thought your vacation was over??? Can't get enough? Back to pour salt in our wounds? Makes me wonder...
TRUCE GODDAMIT!
I wasn't trolling to make static to begin with. Just had some extra time. I coach and teach high school football now (it is a movie week in class), season ended, end of year duties were done, filmwork and weight room begin in a few days, so i had a break and stuck my head into this world for a week. I do coach at clinics on both coasts, not saying it for any other reason but I am just saying my perspective is not in the stands.
I just wanted to pop back in to show that I wasn't gloating. I am not. I dont like seeing ND down. When My idol, Holtz was there, I rooted as hard for the Irish as I did for the Golden Gophers and Game Cocks.
BTW I don't think the student section was aiming at the sidelines... but the cameraman and that it got out of hand... not some revolt or whatever. I did hear the boos, but I don't think it was as bad as the news is playing it up.
Look, my only real viewpoint is this, ... not being obvious, or redundant, but after Holtz, I never saw an incredible difference between Davie, Ty and CW, definately not a 10 year $40,000,000 difference. The common winning percentage is more symbolic than significant to that point. I am not piling on that a USC loss would put CW below the other two, really. That sort of stat has some meaning, but it is more a mere symptom than anything.
I remember watching NBC announce the contract extension and said to myself, "That is a
huge mistake, he really hasn't shown anything to prove he can outlast that." (I don't want to argue CW/TW I don't.... I don't care about Ty) I just thought to myself that moment was the beginning of the end of the program... and now, arguably, this is the low point of the program and the contract extension is a
huge problem. And since that day, Oct what... 12th? 2005? I have run into ND super fans that defended it when I saw it for what it was, premature and excessive and an albatross around the neck of a program searching for a new "anointed one".
SO.... the only thing I ever thought since that day was, it is a shame that it has happened. I don't root against ND, I have personal feelings about JC, but I freaking love Tate. I just don't like blind fans (not saying you are one of them), Blind Buckeye fans that thought they had a chance against USC this year were a pain, Michigan fans that want to can RR are stupid as well. And in my humble opinion ND is looking to replace one of a kind legends and live a little too far in the past. Florida hurt for a bit, but did get past losing Spurrier and were better off for it, Oklahoma got past Switzer, Nebraska is still trying to shake Osbourne still. The ones that are successful are the ones that are willing to throw a certain amount of their past identity out the window when a crisis arises and try something new. (Sooners for example.. are NOTHING like old Sooners, there is no "Sooner style offense, it is just an awesome offense.)
Look, I like talking football when I get free time. Hope I can still do it here.
