Who is throwing snowballs at who?

The early reports from the media regarding the snowballs allegedly being thrown during the game appear to be completely wrong. I offer you this from BGS, which I believe proves the students were not in complete revolt, as the main-scream media stories imply:

Let me take a second to clarify something: I can't imagine students were trying to hit the players intentionally with snowballs yesterday. It seems like it was probably some kids with an ample supply of ammunition at their feet horsing around. As such, I hate the way this is being spun by the national press as a case of students viciously turning on their own classmates. I've been to games where snowballs were thrown, and I was at a MLB game that was forfeited because people were throwing souvenir baseballs onto the field. In neither case did I think fans were trying to hit their own team.

Now, trying to hit TV timeout guys is plausible. Or state troopers. But I can't buy that students were intentionally taking shots at their own classmates. My brother-in-law, a current senior, sends this report.

"It was absolutely embarrassing. I've never been more embarrassed to represent Notre Dame as I was yesterday. Really, most of the throwers (a minority of the students overall) were aiming at the TV guy, but any way you draw it up, it was really lame. It was also pissing off 90 percent of the students who weren't throwing. Numerous times, students yelled at other students to knock it off, and a lot of people, including us, were really pissed off. Embarrassing. "

Unfortunately, several national stories this morning (including the front page of Yahoo) are making it look like it was a mass student reaction to the loss, instead of just limited jackassery by a few lunkheads. Most of the eyewitness reports say the snowballs were hurled in the first quarter and soon ceased, which would seem to indicate it wasn't a backlash to the loss. Embarrassing as this is, I think it's wrong for reporters to push it as something more nefarious than simply some boneheaded students goofing around. Notre Dame is not Philadelphia.

My point is any stories you read that attempt to leave you with the impression that all of ND fandome (or at least all the students) are against the team is ridiculous. The media is simply trying to sell papers, get clicks, etc., and nothing sells more than throwing snowballs at ND.

I'd like to throw a snowball at Pete Carroll.

(As the semi-frozen ball of moisture and hate hurtles toward it's target, I shout to the sky)

The sad thing is, it doesn't matter. We can defend ND until we're green in the face. The media has their story, and they're gonna run with it. Nothing else matters. It's an easy, easy time to pick on ND, unfortunately...

exactly... we are now officially in a "sit down shut the f**k up and take it" situation until we win some big games... and it ain't happening this year or prob. even next year...

that's true. I wasn't posting it so we could inundate the media inboxes with our defense of the program. i just thought it would be helpful for those who care about ND to know that the main-scream media has been growing ever less interested in facts, whether it be stories about college football or any other subject.

Just make sure you mix a little bit of yellow in there first! You wouldnt want to waste a white snowball on Pete Carroll.

The media, especially related w/ sports quit caring about facts a long time ago. Watch ESPN sometime, waved bye bye to integrity and factual reporting long ago.

It's because ESPN is owned by Disney. Disney is all about making fantasy into reality for little kids. Therefore, we can conclude using Newton's Third Law that ESPN = Fantasy.

I wonder if there even is a "Newton's Third Law"...lol

I don't expect anything honest from espn. It is making me mad that people are making it look like the student body turned on the team to "pelt" them with snowballs. If there is any student body (except maybe the service academies) in the country that wouldn't turn on the team, it's this student body.

I did not see a single snowball that hit a player or came near hitting a player after about the first 8 minutes of the game. Nobody was throwing snowballs at players in frustration. It was some idiots thinking it was funny. Yes, they were stupid to do it, but the national media has completely blown this out of proportion. I agree with the account of the senior above. Most students were booing and telling others to cut it out. Many were getting very pissed off at those who were throwing them at the bench area.

It doesnt matter what any of us say though because espn has their story, and they are going to stick with that.

Let it be known though, while there are plenty of students disgusted with Charlie Weis, we (at least the very largest majority of us) have not and never will turn on our team.
