Adverse Times Bring out the blame game

I was a ND kicker from 1995-1999. I learned a lot of different for a coach to win th players confidence, as well as the fans .It always beginnings around third time of the year in college football. It starts with the fans and alumni . They have no problem explaining their disdain for the head coach. Most of them could not tell you what would be a viable coarse of action, just the one we are on stinks. Then the fans start their horrible chants about beating players for the observer.
To all of the writers out their who have called for Coach Weiss's firing, and would should now court Urban Meyer. As a former player who has lost the ability to move my Leg and have had 20 knee operations. If I was given the option of coming back to play for Coach Wei's, even if it meant I would remain disabled forever, the decision to play would be easy. As I watch hid press conferences, he has that passion to win in his heart. the last press conference he was in a happy mood to deal with those don.t know football. but he knew every person wanted his comments about his job, but he ignored everyone who didn't want to coach football.
It now seems we are in the worst game of them all, the blame game. It goes from Claussen, to walker, to the coaches, and the others who have heard this enough. When I missed a kick, it was my fault, not the coach, snapper, or holder and I was going to try to make the next 10 to makeup for the 1 I missed. I am willing to bet every player and coach feels the same way. It is this feel that breeds champions.
IMHO, the only people who can rip the players and their coaches teammates.and exteammates. I am not crazy, every job performance has to overseen, but only by those who have earned it. They have earned the right threw sweat,Loyalty, pain. The rest of you , wave your 1st amendment ,but, the only people you isolate is the team you are supposed to love.

Great post. Sorry to hear of your leg injury. I agree complete, when the players commit a penalty, turnover the ball, or miss an assignment it is not done on purpose and I do not think the coaches asked them to do that. These things happen, especially when dealing with 18 - 21 year old student athletes. I hate the personal attacks on any of the coaches and the players. I believe everyone associated with this team is learning, learning how to be a better coach, player and even teammate. I think we will see the fruits of this labor in the years to come.

Great post. So many times I think that fans forget these are college kids. Not pros. The college game IS different from the NFL and should be treated as such.

And I support the coach no matter what because he IS the coach. Its so easy to couch-coach. Would anyone here truly want someone like Saban or Urban in charge of something as special as Notre Dame football? As long as Weis is the coach, I support him.

I like winning. My brothers always said "Good losers just didn't want to win bad enough" so that is the attitude I grew up with.

But the real losing is when the fans start attacking the players and the coach.

The above quote about good losers just didn't want to win bad enough. That is a great quote for each player and coach to do introspection, and see are they working their hardest. coaching later or calling the extra recruit.
Most players who wore the blue and gold could look in every players eyes and see who
who is truly committed, or do they use the jersey for personal gain. I believe with all my heart next year we will be better than this year. Players can achieve greatness with words of support, not degradation.

I just watched Syrcause score with .42 seconds. We will win some and lose some. That i can execept, but the elders who earned the great reputation, Brown, Powlus, lattner, Lujack, and Montana. The list could go on and on. I am thinking what must these legends thing. It really hurts when you play navy who is out weighed on the line by 50lb. They have hearts that are resiliant, the word quit isn't in their vocabulary. The Toughest oppents I played in 4years was the acadamies. Most players at ND had tears in their eyes out of respect. We need those players.

I do. Fire Weis. I was all about waiting until next year, but there are several great coaches who are going to be snatched up this year, and we should get on that band wagon.

The OP is so full of grammatical errors that I can't decipher it. I thought ND had problems recruiting because of the academic rigor. The above post is evidence to the contrary.

I sincerely disagree with you, but I understand where you are coming from as a fan. As a player, regardless of who we play, we are their bowl game. We are the team that can propel national attention to any team. This year we lost to Pitt BC, and Syracuse. I felt we had to win all three, but Pitt played tough for 4 it's. Thats heart, pride, and the attitude, we are going to leave it all on the field. Both teams did that, and though we lost, we lost with heart, pride, and the will to win.
Today was another story, we were up 23-6 in the fourth and lost. We were beat at the line of scrimmage, by the extra efforts.. and a missed fg in his range. The measure of this team is how they respond against USC. WE beat them in 1995 and they had Keyshauwn. We won the line of scrimmage, and we blowout the higher ranked USC. Next week I feel will define the character of this team, win or lose.

If we could get a top coach to come in, I would support that change. Firing him BEFORE someone is in the bag is a HUGE mistake.

Who honestly wants this job?

LMI: "Firing him BEFORE someone is in the bag is a HUGE mistake."

And how would bringing him back for another year of awfulness not be an even worse one? Who in the world would want to take the job at that point?

Sometimes you've just got to tear off that bandaid and let things heal, pain and torn-off arm hair be damned.

If you fire him and don't have someone, you will be in a worse boat. You will have someone who can't get you where you want to be for 3-4 more years.

Weis may or may not ending being "The Man". But if you DON'T have a replacement then you have already failed.

Yes, something looked odd indeed. Can't type maybe? Poseur? Not the post I would have expected from an ND graduate.

I agree with this. I thought Ty as a hire sucked. I honestly had hardly heard of CW when he was hired. After we "almost" beat U$C, it looked like a genius hire, now it looks absolutely stupid to give him a 10 yr contract. For whatever reason, he just doesn't seem to be able to get it done in the college game. I hate having to start over, but I'm pretty much apathetic to the program anymore. Still a fan, but with low expectations unfortunately.

C'mon. I know you'll be watching, laughing, and posting on here. I can't say I disagree with you, but I'll be watching U$C ass-rape us. If there is no chance at a win, I'm silently hoping they destroy us. I feel dirty for saying it, but I have totally lost confidence in Weis, and whatever brings about a change faster is good.

tah - noo - tah!!!!!!

I like his fire, but I'm not sure he is the answer either. Instead of stop-gap hires, we need a top of the line college coach. Not that I know of any who would take the job.

We'll have a list a mile long, now that the cupboard is full again. I think everyone knew that the tank was empty when Ty got canned and wanted to avoid a long rebuild. The players are now here with another, hopefully, top10 class this year.

You're joking right?

When they hired Ty, there was no line. There was a ton of talent on the team, but there was NO LINE.

Either way, we have players now. The right coach is going to light a match under this thing.

Line has been a problem since Brady's senior year. The Irish need a coach with some fire in his belly.

well, I don't know where you got your info from, but usually a team that doesn't go to a bowl, isn't their last game considered their bowl game?
well, syracuse still has to play the bearcats and if anyone thinks "since that is their bowl game, they will win that one...then"
Oh wait a minute...syracuse will loose and it will be notre dame's fault because they will still be on an emotional high from winning today.

Anyway, I never could understand why anyone would make such a comment about being their bowl game

I don't think notre dame is any longer a team that propel national attention. That's nothing more then haden and hammond BS anymore.
appalachian state beating michigan last year was one of those moments.Boise State beating Oklahoma a few years ago was another.
The jaquez brothers beating USC this year is another.

All this syracuse lose proves is how far notre dame football has really

now I didn't blame anyone ('cept that remark about why the orange will loose next week),I didn't say weis needed to be fired either, but this is worse then the gerry faust days because I'm not so sure when notre dame will beat a team ranked in the top12 ever again. All I'm saying is this is bad and I beg abc/espn to pull the plog on the game next week.
GIVEN THE CHANCE PETE CARROLL WILL NOT LET UP (style points) AND ALL THIS "NOTRE DAME NATIONAL ATTENTION" IS JUST THE THING FOR THEM in a national championship bid and it still can pan out that way.
oklahoma state win
alabama lose
missouri win over texas
and it's florida/usc for the title

I didn't bother reading the initial post. I didn't need to. When you lose to a better team, like USC in '05, there isn't much to say. When you lose to Syracuse or Pitt (without their starting quarterback or any discenrable passing game) it's not just bad luck. Someone is to blame and if you say that no one is to blame than you're pretty much saying "we suck, it's just a fact of life but lets keep rooting for the team even though we know that we're mediocre". Well, "Kevin Kopka" ,if you are who you say than you know that is not going to cut it at ND. The fans, the students and the alums will not accept that bullshit. Just stop apologizing and making excuses. This isn't Kansas State or West Virginia; this is Notre Fucking Dame.

It wouldn't be that long after most everyone turned it down.
face it...notre dame isn't that much of a hotbed with coaches lining up.
the cupboard was empty when saban went to alabama and they still don't have any standout playmakers either.
yeah, yeah, I know, they had the #1 recruiting class last year, but let me tell ya buddy ya ain't a 5 star until you prove it on the field

Here's an interesting tidbit from Charlie Weis.

Reporter: Do you (CW) think there is enough talent to turn it around, not just this year, but next year?

CW: "I never pass on tough questions, I think it's really important for me not to be making big picture analyses after a tough loss."

"I think big picture analysis questions are things you better sit back and reflect on rather than just come up and give an answer off the spur of the moment. I don't do things that way."

That sounds like passing on a tough question to me. Actually, the question isn't that tough at all. If he doesn't know enough or have enough confidence in what are going to be his recruits (blaming Ty ends in two games) to say if he thinks that they can turn it around next year then you have to wonder what, if anything, does he know? He's been around these guys for two years, he's seen them in practice, games, spring ball, etc. That isn't big picture analysis....that's everyday "hey it's you friggin job" analysis.

When asked if he is starting to doubt his coaching abilities he said "No, not at all". Hmm....how many people can break records for futility at an institution--whether it's sports, a bank, whatever--and not question their ability at all? Better yet, where are his bosses at because they should have a slew of questions about his abilities. I sure as hell do.
