Just finished a 4 day fall foliage vacation tour across
the northern tier of Pennsylvania. Started counting lawn
signs as I headed east. Saw just 6 Obama signs in 500+
miles. At the same time, the McCain signs numbered in
the hundreds.

Local radio ads had canidates warning against voter's
money only going to Philadelphia. Started casual
conversations along the way and kept hearing the same
theme. A woman in Emporium Pa shrugged with resign-
ation and said it best:

"Doesn't matter what we vote, those jerks 300 miles
away in Philadelphia always get their way."

Boy is this a polarized election...Tom

I consider myself a moderate, but I really can't see how anyone with half a brain would think McCain/Palin would be better than the alternative. McCain is WAY past his prime and out of touch with reality, and Palin was thrust onto the spotlight for the sole reason of attempting to steal the disgruntled Hilary votes. Obama is intelligent and well spoken, and that alone is a huge step up from the current retard holding the presidency.

Obama being eloquent is nice, but his socialistic views make me very nervous. Our country always does ok with balance, but with democrats running the house, senate, and WH.........who's to keep them in check?
...and does anybody really believe that only the top 5 percent will have taxes raised? Clinton said the same thing....wrong. Bush 41 said that.......the democratic congress convinced him otherwise. Obama would get into office and say "I'd luv to offer a tax cut to the middle class, but we can't do it because of the programs that are in 'desperate need of funding. Maybe next year".
Don't say I didn't warn ya.

I too consider myself a moderate, but I can see where
these people come from. No matter how the rest of the
state votes, the people in one county call the tune.

I split my vote, they are going to spend my money so I
might as well pick and choose. However, ninety per-
cent of Philadelphian's only pull the lever once.

I think it is more frustration with the Phila politi-
cal machine/graft and people not having a real voice
in Harrisburg...Tom

PS. Might McCain be a huge step up too?

As a complete outsider to anything political, I agree. But it seems the real "powers that be" will allow the puppet to get voted. Sad statement, but that is the statement of a lower than average (me) U.S. citizen.

I thought Mack was an automatic until he brought in Palin. What an insult. My other thought is that she is a clever choice.

Even if Mack wins and somehow Palin becomes next Presi, the Powers will still dictate.

If Obama is elected, Biden is in. Might not be so bad, but...

Just a puppet on a lonely string.

Who knows?

All I can do, as a commoner, is to work and keep my nose to the grindstone. And go to church every now and again. (Especially the 5:30 service, when that blonde with the pink streaks sits at the back left pew...)

Gonna be exciting. It seems all opposites now have a chance to be the official puppet.

Either way, USA.

by the press. These subprime mortgages, that are helping
pull down the credit market and that no bank in it's right
mind would issue, are mandated by congressional law.

Several years ago,I took out a business bank loan (2 pts
over prime with good credit) and asked about about a sub-
prime rate. The loan officer explained the facts of life.

Thank you slick Willie and the party that controlled both
Congress and the Executive branch at that time...Tom

Prove your statement. Give me proof please why (seemingly) unethical lenders all of a sudden were promising castles to (seemingly) those who couldn't afford. Show the difference between Dem and Rep, and point the blame to the exact person who dictated. Can you do that?

I need more info before I vote.

not really care to debate with anyone on the left BUT since one comment has been made I will (hopefully) make one comment for the right simply to make a point, and leave it at that (yeah right right?)

With respect, what Junk says is true, but when has intelligent and well spoken been an overwhelmingly GOOD thing with a politican in this lifetime?? I honestly can't see how any intelligent person can't see through Obama's BS... he has been a key member of the cotrolling party of this government for over two years... what great 'change' he has brought upon us??? Bush and Rice warned about the economy since their first year in the white house... they listed AIG and fannie in thier first economic critque to congress eight years ago... the house and senate laughed at them... McCain, Clinton, Pelosi, and Biden included... yet Obama and his followers throw everything on Bush... it's a government faliure, NOT a presidential one alone... Let's not forget Greenspan's warnings to Washington about impending disaster

and Stoney is right, the day we elect Obama we have officially killed the "dog eat dog, only the strong survive, work your way to the top, miltary leader of the world," capitalistic America that our parents and fore fathers fought for in favor of a new socialist america. One with more enemies than ever AND a soon to be weakened military... how that will help matters i don't honestly don't know... but at least Obama won't raise taxes (yeah right), he'll only triple gas prices...

I just don't buy it... I will not sit here and defend McCain beyond the fact I honestly believe him to be the most straight shooting politican I have seen in either party in years, he is a capitalist, and he won't let our enemies defeat us without a fight...

I see none of that in Obama

so my point is this...

no matter how strongly Junkhead, Stoney, myself or any other intelligent posters here feel (LMI soon to weigh in prob.??) we have to understand politics seem to be VERY VERY relative and there is always an opposite side of the coin for every extreme... no one will change ANYONE'S mind on this election via a message board so we might as well leave it at that...

no?

NeuteredDomer,

It really is hard to have a discourse with someone who uses
hyperbole as skillfully as you do. However...

1. Community Reinvestment Act, signed by President Clinton
requires lending institutions to set a percentage of their
loans to "increase access to homeownership."

2. These loans "forced banks to make subprime (mortgage)
loans to people who couldn't afford them."

3. Adding to the misery:

a) "Report by President Clinton's economic team recommend-
ed against regulation of spinoff Securities. Spinoff
securities were composed of bundled subprime loans. TO
not regulate them encouraged the lenders to keep lending."

b) Bill barring such legislation passed in house in
October 2000. Derivatives would not be regulated as
futures contracts.

c) 2005 Congressional rejection of a Republican bill
aimed at curbing risky investment by Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac. McCain was a co-sponser. Obama did not
vote either way. The rest is history.

Thats funny that you said you counted. I did the same thing with my girlfriend just in our neighborhood and surrounding areas. I told her one day that all I notice if Obama/Biden signs so we counted on day. On our street alone which is about 500 yards there is 12 Obama and 0 McCain. And in the area alone which is maybe 5 square miles: Obama/Biden 488 McCain/Palin 132!!!! Thats a huge advantage if ya ask me.

Are you five years old? Obama has already stated that he might have to scale back his tax cuts if needed. Well.........didn't he just tell you that he's not going to hold himself to what he keeps promising over and over.
Liberals raise taxes, it's what they do. People who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.
I thought I was just stating the obvious...I guess not.

Divided government works best in this country... when different parties control the executive and legislative branches it creates legislative gridlock... its much harder for the idiots in Washington
to pass new laws that almost invariably makes things worse. If a Dem wins this years election and the Dems control the Senate and House, the new onslaught of tax legislation will cripple the country for years to come. Remember, once new laws are passed it is almost impossible to get them overturned. Just my humble opinion.

Apparently not, because you are discoursing quite well. (I choose irony and paradox over hyperbole. Hyperbole is gay. :))

Is the above simply a quote from that article, or have you studied, lived, and understood what you just wrote? I am not messing with you. I really appreciate your input.

I am my own business owner. Raw, naked, hard working business. (No, not a booby bar yet)

I just get tired of rep and dem pre-manufactured responses.

I am trying to understand the process, the thinking, the bullshit.

Thanks for sharing.

LOL. Stonedbreaker just red-dotted me and called me a 5 year old liberal.

I am 14. Geez. That's a 27 year difference, depending on how you do the math.

Gotta love the passion.

(By the way, I am conservative.)

yeah it's funny here in cali... I live in San Bernardino county and it's been a long time red area.... but the curreent well fare system here holds the two years min. to county ONLY so those from LA, SD, and up north started moving from county to county every two years when Clinton started the reforms... now my city is 60% section eight and welfare as of a year and a half ago... not suprisingly other than my parents house I have not seen another McCain banner ANYWHERE... obama's are everywhere and the LA times just stated that SB county is blue for the first time in generations...
