'09 CA RB Cierre Wood

that is pretty bad but screw rivals we know we have the best back in the country

First off he's still in the top 15, I don't see how that is "pretty bad" considering he didn't drop nearly as far as Deion Walker, Logan Heastie, or DJ Shoemate did

Second of all, don't you see the irony in your statement? What makes him the best back in the country? Is it because of attributes you feel he has that others don't? Or is it simply because Rivals, the very people you are bashing, ranked him the #1 RB to begin with?

I dont think you know how things work around here. if ND has 25 recruits they all better all be in the top 25 or they're underrated. Thats how things work for all fans of schools. Also i agree it is ridiculous. how did 11 people get better than him over the summer? if he drops during the season when games are being played thats understandable but a site shouldn't drop someone that much over the summer they have to be wrong at one point and its ridiculous that they've made such a big mistake one way or the other

Did anyone see the piece over the long weekend on Fox 11 News here in Southern California about Santa Clara and how the program has grown in just a few years into a power? They interviewed Cierre and showed a bunch of his game film. The more I see of this kid, the more I get excited about getting him on the field in '09. Plus, he is a great interview and seems like a very intelligent and quality young man.

ESPN2 is showing Mater Dei vs Carson right now. Shaq Evans and Cierre Wood were on the sidelines and were interviewed.

Shaq says he's still considering (in his stated order, FWIW) USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Colorado and Michigan. This month on the 26th he's taking a visit to ND and in the future to Colorado and Michigan.

Cierre, asked why he chose ND, not only is it a young team that he has a chance to play early, he also gets an education from ND which is excellent if football doesn't work out. Said the ND campus made him feel at home, like a family. Told the ESPN reporter he prefers to be listed as a RB (they have him listed as an Ath).

Army Bowl wants Wood

For the second consecutive year, it appears a Ventura County running back will be the first player chosen by the U.S. Army All-American Bowl selection committee.

The Army All-American folks are staying tight-lipped about why some Army VIPs will be attending a big pep rally at Santa Clara on Thursday, but it doesn't take a football guru to figure out running back Cierre Wood will be announced as the first selection of the West squad.

Through four games, the Notre Dame-bound Wood has rushed for 751 yards and 10 touchdowns for the defending Mid-Valley Division champions.

I saw highlights of this kid a couple weeks ago from a game where he didn't play in the first quarter because he missed a practice. He only played the second and third and some of the fourth and he went for something like 250 yards on the ground. Kid looks like a total stud.

Can't wait to see him wearing blue and gold. Finally, we're getting the running backs which will lead us to the national championship...maybe 09, for sure10.

The only thing that is for sure is I'll be drinking tomorrow

Heavily...

As for Wood, my Lord the kid is explosive. I love him. He's got burst that you just can't teach. And the fact that he stuck by ND when the whole world down here in SoCal was clowning him and trying to get him to change schools, makes me love the kid that much more (in a platonic way of course. not that there's anything wrong with that)...

Last night (albeit against a crappy team), Wood had 5 TD's, w/ 300 all-purpose yards in limited time, including taking the opening kick-off 94 yards to the house. If you haven't seen his clips yet, do yourself a favor and Youtube him. He's outstanding...

Just watched his highlight video on YouTube for the first time. All I can say is WOW. The thing that impressed me the most was how he was patient and he used his blockers and waited for the hole to open up...and then BOOM, he exploded through the hole. What a player. Don't know how Charlie convinced him to come here with the RB depth we already have...but kudos to Charlie and the staff! He's going to be very special!!!

I think Coach Weis is able to get these guys to come here because he has shown the best guy will play, hands down. He doesn't play favorites and he rewards hard work. From what I have heard from people who are around Cierre, that is the kind of player he is. He wants to prove he is the best whether on the field or in the classroom. Kid is a really good student too! Awesome! Can't wait for him to get on campus!

Wood posts game-winning touchdown against Nordhoff

Notre Dame-bound ESPNU 150 athlete Cierre Wood scored the game-winner on a 70-yard catch-and-run with just over a minute remaining in Santa Clara's 21-16 victory over Nordhoff (Ojai, Calif.), writes the Ventura County Times.
Wood had been limited to 98 yards on 21 carries (4.7 average), including a 58-yard touchdown run before the big reception.

Cierre Wood, Santa Clara giant killers again
Notre Dame pledge Cierre Wood, an ESPNU 150 athlete, rushed for 265 yards and all three Santa Clara touchdowns in the 21-7 victory over Oak Park, Calif., last year's league co-champions.
Last week, Santa Clara knocked off the other league co-champion.

this kid is a winner at heart and a definate home run threat. i think he is the biggest recruit of our class thus far. i know our running back position is starting to get stacked up, which i love.....not to far away and we will have talent enough to make our RBs known nationally as long as we get the guys to block in front of them. i get tired of USC being known as RB university.

His HS team moved up a class and is playing against tougher competition and the kid is still dominating. He looks like a man among boys when he runs. Absolute stud!

Huge game this Friday for Cierre and his team. They play Oaks Christian, former home of Jimmy Clausen and current home of QB Nick Montana and several other D1 athletes. Both teams are undefeated, although OC is excpected to win. Woods will be keyed on (like always), and it'll be interesting to see how he does against a high profile team...

NDinL.A. - is the game at OC or up at Santa Clara? If it is in Westlake Village, that might be worth making the trip up to go see the game. Don't know how hard tickets would be to come by, but it could be worth a shot.

It's at Oaks. Quite a drive for you, but not as bad as driving out to Santa Clara. Should be a great game; there's lots of build up for this one. Tix might be tough to come by, just because of the magnitude of the game plus the start power, and I mean in the stands. Don't forget, Will Smith and Wayne Gretzky's sons play JV for Oaks, and of course you have Joe Montana. Tom Cruise has even been known to go to the game to support good buddy Will Smith...

I was actually born in Westlake Village, so I go back from time to time. Not too bad of a drive normally, but Friday traffic could make it a nightmare. I couldn't care less about Will Smith and Tom Cruise, but it would be cool to see Gretzky and Montana. Wayne probably won't be there because the Coyotes play the Canucks the night before, but who knows? Would be cool to go, but I will probably have to settle for seeing highlights on the internet.

Just curious, what class is Oaks Christian High School?? Is their class the toughest, easiest, or in the middle?? Thanks.

They are a relatively new school (2000), very rich, and wanted to make a splash in sports. I'd say 75% of their student body plays at least one sport. They have had huuuuge success in football because of 2 things: Top-notch athletes and their status as a small school. Enrollment-wise they are small, so for years they have played other small schools in the playoffs, and no one could touch them. JC never got sacked in h.s.!!! (What a culture shock playing behind ND's line).

They have a CIF regional title for 4 years running, and I believe they won a state title in Jimmy's senior year (they were beyond loaded). This year their coach says they are even better, and they are already lobbying the state to allow them to play in a higher division. I will say this, in the past their coach has been accused of dodging tougher comp (i.e. big schools). This year, they've played some big public schools, but none that are any real threat. Their closest score this year in 7 games has been 35-7, against a good school from central CA.

Sooooooo, to answer, they played in far too easy of a division the last 5 years...

Santa Clara (Oxnard) played JC's old school, Oaks Christian last night and lost 49-6. Apparently OC has an incredibly good defense. Cierre was the only offensive highlight for his team and rushed for 105 yds on 21 carries. Unfortunately, Cierre was injured in the 4th quarter and had to be helped off the field. No word on how serious the injury was.

Let's hope he's fine. It seems like quite a few ND commits get injured senior year.
