Tressel's a good coach but after the two NC game blowouts and the pounding from USC last week, OSU is not elite. Very good, great even...but not USC great.

That Pryor kid is going to be Heisman material in a couple of years.

He sure can win games with almost no talent cant he? Seems like he can take a bunch of 2 star players and beat top 25 teams. What could he do with talent ND has now? Think about it.

He beat Virginia Tech and West Virignia while recruiting for "The East Carolina Pirates" Skip is a better coach and talent evaluator than Weis so far.

Maybe, maybe not...tough to say. Skip is lucky that he can recruit JUCOs too.

Do the math.

Doesn't Ohio State usually start the season against such greats as: San Diego State (I know, I know), Ohio, Youngstown, the list could go on. Throw in a healthy dose of Northwestern, Illinois (pre-Zook), Minnesota, Iowa & Indiana and you're looking at 8 automatic W's a season. Maybe his record is not that impressive.

The same can be said for us, who play greats such as Navy, Stanford, Army, Purdue, etc.

Right now the math is pretty simple...you have to beat either USC or the SEC champ to win a NC. The Midwest is having difficulty producing that team. I don't believe the average OSU fan was thrilled with the way the last two years ended for the Bucks.

The talent level in the Midwest can't even come close to comparing to the talent level in California or Florida. Let alone heading into the heard of the south in Texas and Alabama.

California and Texas are so loaded with talent, that teams like Texas and USC don't have to leave the state for talent. While teams like Notre Dame and Michigan are handicapped, due to Indiania/Michigan/Ohio/Pennsylvania not nearly having the kind of talent that has amassed on the West and in the South.

In 2005 we played 6 opponent who were ranked at some point during the season. In 2006 we played 5 opponents who were ranked at some point. In 2007 we played 6 opponents ranked at some point. I don't think that's too bad.

P.S. No matter how bad we are I am not happy about our cupcake scheduling over the next 3 years. I would rather ND trot out and lose to good teams than risk losing to North Carolina, San Diego State or any of the other cupcakes. Well, we thought they were cupcakes when we set the schedules. If White could do it over he might have scheduled teams from the Sun Belt and the MAC instead of the ACC, Big 10 or PAC 10.

tOSU players can't...in here we have some huge differences...

Took the words out of my mouth. Just listen to the players on tOSU in a post game press conference, it is lucky that they can play football because most of them are not smart enough to do anything else.

JT is ceratinaly ahead of Weis, but he had a much better starting point. He took over for a coach whose only real sin was losing to Michigan, and otherwise had a very strong team. Weis took over for a program with much bigger problems.

i know this isnt the focus of the thread, but i dont understand the logic of hiring skip. first, he doesn't regularly beat top 25 teams. second, neither VT or WVU are in the top 25 anymore. they're both terribly overrated and in weak conferences which will be the only reason they win some games. nc state wont even sniff the top 25 this year. college football can be a cruel mistress for every school not in the top 5.

i don't agree with canning weis, but isn't there someone better to go after for those of you suggesting it?
