Mich St Game Discussion Thread [Sept. 22, 08]

It's official. We are done. I really hate to give up on this team, but there is no chance in hell that we win this game.

Well Charlie needs to prove himself as a head coach and get these guys fired up for the second half... it doesn't look good right now

God damn it. Zero sacks untill MSU. MSU!!!! WHy? Come on o-line, block somebody, don't just be a fork in the rode. The only chance now is if our D let's MSU score no more points, and out O-line blocking for passing and running

I'm so bitterly dissapointed by our play this year... even more so than last year, maybe in spite of it too...

last year we were a team led by frosh and sophmores... it was expected we lose games... maybe not that bad but whatever....

this year we were supposed to grow and let's face it... we got outplayed by San Deigo St. for three and a half quarters... Michigan chooked up that game, when we actually faced them on the line we were dominated for the most part... and here we are down 10-0 to a teaam that from a pure talent standpoint we have no buisness losing to.....

for the first time in my life I and actually starting to wonder if ND will indeed ever be a legit top five team again

I agree. Notre Dame will NEVER again be a top 5 team. We recruit talent but then it disappears when it gets on campus. Notre Dame reminds me of the Detroit Lions.

Come on guys, this is bad, but I don't think we're playing all that bad today. The defense looks great. We know this offense is capable of scoring points through the air and have been deep in their territory twice already...we just didn't score. The only thing we can't do right now is run the football. If we figure that out and create some holes for our backs, we WILL win this game...I'm confident of this. Keep the faith...it's only halftime and we're only down 10.

If we don't have a running game, the pass game will go to shit. Wait, it already is pretty bad considering we won't throw the short pass enough. I get a lump in my chest everytime Jimmy throws deep. The D IS playing well, but the O has to keep them off the field or they will start to colapse also. This is very differcult to watch.

We need to attack the middle of the field to keep Wiley honest. He is cheating over to the sideline everytime we throw. Jimmy is playing bad but better protection and playcalling can get this passing game going. The last possession we moved the ball well attacking the middle, then we quit and thats why the drive stalled.

I am happy with the D in the first half. They even played the run fairly well being an undersized and young D line.
The Oline has struggled opening holes, but have pass blocked decent. The sacks are because our QB was holding the ball too long and they D knew the pass was coming.
I will say that the play calling has been very conservative.
Finally, if you look at the two turnovers, they are the only difference in the game. Jimmy throws a INT in the endzone which at minumum cost us 3. Then he gives them the ball on the 22. That is the other 7. Should really be about a 3-3 game. Go cry in your beeers.

Allright. With all of these big upsets today, and many more possible to come, doesn't this mean that there is a path being cleared for ND to make it into the top 25 very soon? Hopefuly more big upsets happen, and we upset MSU, so that we can get up there.

okay we still have a half... we need one break... it sucks relying on luck but we need ONE break and its a new ballgame I would say we need one player to make a play but when has that happened lately??

Purdue- big loss.. I said at the start of the year we'd be in trouble that game and got killed for it... how many of you like our chances against thier pass attack now?????????

Stanford- we will go in looking for confidence and get some in a hard fought win most likely

UNC- push

UW- I don't see us losing that under any normal circumstances

Pitt- loss

BC- Push

Navy- Win

Syracuse- win

USC- hey anything can happen but we'll have to improve in amajor way to even keep it competitive


that's six wins at worst even if we do lose to Pitt, UNC and BC

that's a bowl game people

so even though we STILL look more like last year than we do with Brady Quinn it should still be a good solid year

BUT! we have not shown any growth as a team... that is the discouraging part.... and speaking of Turn overs what if Michigan doesn't turn the ball over last week???? that's a what if for you

i guess I am just sick of seeing the only team I can truely live and die with get beat up by teams they should be handling.... it's been a tough year

I was just stating that the passing game has not been good to this point. I agree with attacking the middle with short to mid range slants and in routes. It seems to be the only thing that is working. We just never keep it up. Keep doing what works until they stop it.
