As some of you may know from last week, I listen to Colin Cowherd. At the end of his show today he hosted a chat on ESPNRadio.com. So I waited for it to come on and I asked him a question that they posted and of course he had a smart ass response.

Bill (Philadelphia): Collin, Jimmy Clausen for Heisman in 2 years?

Colin:*Notre Dame is still able to market their program as elite, and they have one national championship in 30 years. SO why wouldn't they be able to overhype Jimmy Clausen?

Haha. He, too, loves going with the flow of common media themes. Clausen threw 3 balls Saturday that really impressed me. The fade to Kamara for the TD (I think the fade is his best throw). When Michigan blitzed, the quick slant to Tate that he broke for extra yards. And the ball he threw to Tate for the 48 Yard TD was incredible. It was in stride and an obsolute bullet through the air.

Personally, I love listening to Cowherd. I don't always agree with him, but he makes you think. He's not some 400 pd local guy talking about the same tired topics all the time.

The problem is he doesn't know ND well enough to know what he's talking about to passionate ND fans. When ND was doing well he LOVED CW. Now we're down and he's piling on us. And if I were him and I didn't have a care either way for ND, you damn right I'm talking ND football. ND is a national, pulverizing university, and he has a national show.

As for Clausen, wow, what an arm. He showed it off in the first half, then had to hand the ball off because of the monsoon in the 2nd half. He's got the fade pass down, and the bomb off play-action to Tate was perfect. He is going to be special, I truly believe that.

A strong year for ND this year and Clausen will be in the discussion next year. He just needs to up his yards and td's, which he will hopefully do against the softer portion of the schedule (Syracuse, Stanford, Washington & Navy).

i agree, but if we get past msu and purdue unscathed, the hype machines will be cranked up for sure, which is a double edged sword because you love hearing positive things about ND but they second we trip up all the crap would start up again. guess it comes with the territory.

oh and i believe if that monsoon didn't hit his yards would have been much better against mich, plus floyd could have caught that ball in the endzone that went for a pick instead.

Man...I don't know about this one. Are we talking him just being a candidate or actually winning? Being a candidate...I could see that...maybe. Winning it? For some reason, I find that highly unlikely.

it will all depend on how we do this year. if we make a showing at a bowl game and win it and he looks impressive then yeah he will start getting mentioned but if we get blown away theyre just gonna say its all hype and no talent.

why 2 years? I saw Clausen will be a legitimate Heisman contender next season.

He has more than enough talent. He needs some refinement. His ability though is unbelievable. He is far ahead of where Quinn was at the same juncture in his career.

You can see how much healthier Clausen looks this year. He needs to work more on his deep balls with Floyd and they will get it down. I think the Golden-Clausen connection works and should be used in every game. I also saw quote in the SB Tribune from Eric Olsen stating that since the o-line kept Clausen's jersey clean he was suppose to take them out to eat. It would be nice to see Clausen winning the heiseman.

The only others which could claim this in the past 30 years would be Nebraska and Bama, but Bama claims lots of shit that isn't true so I guess we could throw that right out the window. ;)
