I was watching College football live on Wed night and they got to talking about Notre Dame. Naturally with the Passion and Love Lou has for the Irish he got a little fired up. I absolutely love what he said though.

"you don't go to Notre Dame to win some of them, you don't go to Notre Dame to win most of them, you go to Notre Dame to win all of them". - Holtz

Holtz is calling for a 10 or 11 win season. While we all have been giving some of the other members here a hard time for being so pessimistic about the upcoming season, I don't see anyone on here posting that Lou is crazy!! Including me! One point to make though is that Lou has been consistent with his prediction of the season!

You gotta love LLLOOOOOOUUUUUU!

Go IRISH!!

Yeah, there was a sports writer on ESPN who said it best...

"Does Lou geniuninely believe the Irish will win 11 games? Yes, and that is why I give him credit, but I myself am not that optomistic and will say 8"

thats because he actually has a point. He thinks there will be much improvement and everything, He who wont be named is basing it off of optomism, nothing else.

But anyway.

Can I get an Amen for real college football start?

during that same broadcast Lou also talked briefly about getting a 4 team playoff together in January. He mentioned Pitt as an example when Mark May played. He said that this would have given the "Pittsburgh....Pirates" a chance to win a national championship. Mark May quickly corrected him and said "Panthers" May was at a loss for words. It was great!

that prediction is crazy, based on the product we saw last season. yes the schedule is lighter, but still, if you go off last season (which is all we have) then a 10 or 11 win season is crazy.

now, if anyone has earned the right to make crazy predictions, it's Lou Holtz. i still wish he wouldn't though. Lou is a HoF coach, whereas dingleberries like Lee Corso finished his coaching career with a losing record I believe. He deserves to wear a mascot's head permanently.

also, if you go back and review Holtz's press confs while he was a coach and had more experienced teams with a full roster of top players on scholarship, he would never had predicted 10 or 11 wins. Lou as the sportscaster is different from Lou as the head coach.

I liked last night Reece was introducing them and he was like The Hall Of famer Lou Holtz and Mark May and May was like where is my intro? And Lou said something to the effect of while I was winning championships you were playing line against Hofstra. I love Lou

I like the "Ask Dr. Lous" segment, you can just tell how upset May is that he doesn't have anything like that

whether his predictions are crazy are not he's my favorite coach of all time for two reasons.

When I got old enough to understand and watch football he was the coach.

and He has a love for Notre Dame and doesn't care if anyone knows it.

I got to hear Lou speak at a sales conference in the early 90's and I wanted to get into a three point stance and level someone after he was finished. Lou is the best and I love that he is not afraid to show is love for ND!

Yup, and if you remember, not only would he not pick us to win 11 games, he would sandbag every opponent like they were the friggin' '84 Bears. I don't care if it were Navy or Army or whoever, the team ND was playing was AWESOME and might beat us by 50 if we didn't show up to play!

I heard him say on the show last night that ND asked him to speak before the Michigan game. I hope to God he speaks at the pep rally! Nobody gives a speech like Sweet Lou. Nobody.

Guys,
I love Lou and what he did at ND, but his predictions just make us look silly. Come on guys, don't drink that Kool-Aid. I have set my bar at 8 wins and find this 10-11 win stuff to be drug induced. Let's just sit back and quietly have a good season. None of the ND chest beating. After last year, we must earn the respect back by winning the games, not predicting wins. GO IRISH!!!!

Dude, it's like spring training, or training camp in the pros. Everybody thinks they have a shot, when in reality only a few do. It's the old saying, "Hope springs eternal," but in this case hope happens in the fall, not the spring. I keep saying, and other rational posters keep saying, that we went 3-9 for a reason last year. I mean, we were BEYOND awful. How can a ND team lead by Charlie Wies be LAST in the nation in offense? Well, it happened. But people want to be optimistic, which is fine, I guess. I just prefer to be optimistic, but realistic as well. I will go into every game thinking and hoping we can win, but in reality 8 wins would be a HUGE upgrade. Next year, 9-11 wins, and in 2 years, when we have the depth and the athleticism that top programs have (which is what we're finally recruiting---athletes), we could conceivably be back in the national championship picture. But one game at a time, one season at a time...

Yeah, I have to agree here. Lou's schtick gets old...it does NOT help us.
