My vote goes to Hughes. The guy is a beast and the nation is going to find out about him this year...

Eric Olsen, Ian Williams. And Sergio Brown, Gary Gray, and Toryan Smith in backup roles.

I am not really going out on too much of a limb, but I really think Michael Floyd is going to have a breakout year as a freshman. I think this player is going to meet and, dare I say, shatter all expectations of him this season.

Then again, it IS almost 2:30am in the morning, I am well on my way into a new keg of Sam Adams Summer Ale, I have the Supersuckers blasting on the iTunes and I am getting totally pumped for the upcoming season so my judgement may be slightly clouded at this point.

I am so ready for this season! Go get 'em boys! Let's kick some Trojan ass this year!!

GO IRISH!!!

Floyd...everything I am hearing says he's ready and amazing.

But I would love to see Golden Tate step up and be Mr Dangerous

I'm not counting Clausen because he will breakout if the O-Line steps up. Harrison Smith, Sergio brown, and Armando Allen. All 3 are going to have huge seasons.

Coach Haywood will have a break-out year and will take a head coaching job at the end of the year.

The whole team has a break-out year with a new attitude and total team play.

I say its Allen. I think that ankle still bothered him some last year so I look to his speed and pootential for catching the ball out of the backfield to break some really big plays this year.

I look for Allen to really exel on special teams this season even more so then at running back.

I am going to say Mike ragone. I think with the running game the tight ends will get in to the act a lot more ala Irv Smith in the early 90's

I saw some clips of Mike Ragone on the und.com practice sites and he looks like he is ready for a breakout season.

Ragone will be the man this season at TE with Yeatman and Rudolph also getting some reps. Good call.

I seem to agree with the general consensus:

Defense:

Brian & Harrison Smith (Ethan Johnson and Gary Gray) are also some darkhorses who can "break out" this season.

Offense (One or all of the following:)

Floyd, Tate, Allen, Kamara, Ragone.

I sure hope everyone here is wrong. If any of our lineman don't have a breakout season, none of our RB's or WR's will either.

And to argue the case of defensive breakout players, I agree it will be 1 or 2 people from the linebacking corps. They will be forced to have a breakout season i think.

Just being realistic from last year's performance and what has been blogged about in practice thus far.

The line faltered last season, and like Clausen, I think everybody is expecting them to play to their ability this year. If they perform, it will be more of an "as expected" than a "breakout", IMO.

When I think of the word "break out" I think of freshmen's/sophmore's who turn into gamebreakers. Not solid/steady performers who didn't play to expectations during their rookie season (IE: most of the offensive line in '07)

I think Sam Young & David Bruton both have potential to be 1st/2nd round NFL prospects next year.
